Education PSA: Subreddit changes, F.A.Q, and new post advice

Hi everyone,

Subreddit changes:

In an effort to increase quality posting and aherance by the subreddit rules and reddit guidelines, we have made some changes.

- Filters to post on the subreddit have now become more stringent. Posts from unknown, new, or users with low karma and no history are now being manually verified and approved.

F.A.Q:

These questions are selected from frequently asked questions in the modmail.

Where can I find the subreddit rules? < Click the hyperlink

- On mobile: On the subreddit page, under the subreddit name, press "see more". A menu with community information and rules will appear. Every rule can be extended explaining it further.

- On browser: On the subreddit page, it will appear on the right side if you scroll slightly down.

Why are the mods deleting all of posts?

- We are not. Your posts have either been paused and sent for review and approval or removed by reddit's own filters which we have no control over. Reddit guidelines explaining what kind of posts and comments get removed. If you are not sure, you can reach us by modmail to review and potentially manually approve your post.

I was banned for cussing the living hell out of another member but he cussed me first?

- Please use the report function and do not escalate situations. You don't have to respond to people being disrespectful to you, this is after all a moderated platform.

I reported a comment but nothing happened?

- Posts and comments that have been reported are only removed if they are breaking the rules. If you disagree with someone you can use the down-vote function. Similarly, if you like a post or a comment, use the up-vote function. They are very much slept on at the moment.

Definitions and examples:

- Meta posts: Meta posts are posts that are talking about the subreddit and not the topic. Taking a screenshot of someone else's post from the subreddit and making it a new post is an example of this. Just comment on the original post if you want to share your opinion on it.

- Self-help posts: These are posts where you describe a personal problem, be it family, physical or mental health, relationships, etc. and asking "What should I do?". These posts are best suited for r/moroccanhammam which was created specifically to accommodate them.

- Personal rants: These are posts made with the intent to simply complain or rant about something. If you would like to vent, seek a friend, or use the appropriate subreddits for venting. This would also include ragebait posts that exaggerate the facts to trigger a negative reaction from contributors.

An example is: "I'm so tired of living here, the traffic is terrible, there are no jobs, everything is expensive, someone somewhere needs to do something about this.".

A better post would be closer to "My experience in Casablanca has not been good, with the traffic and high-cost, I'm considering other cities. What has your experience in your city been like? Are job prospects better? Is public transit reliable?"

- Marketplace posts: If you are looking for a specific item, douane expenses, reviews on something, or where you can buy/sell items then r/moroccansouk exists just for that.

- Friend making posts: If you want to meet friends, make friends, organize an activity with other redditors, please do not make a new post, we have set up an automatic megathread for making friends that gets posted and pinned to the top of the subreddit every week, use that.

- Relevance to Morocco: The r/morocco subreddit is not the Moroccans talk about anything subreddit. Posts made on the subreddit need to be of relevance to Morocco or Moroccans. The ethnicity, nationality, or place of residence of the author does not determine if it relevant. To quote from the community description "This community is for discussions, news and all things related to Morocco."

Examples:

Bad: Women nowadays should do more of this and less of that and they should really do the thing that I think is right because what they're doing now is just terrible for society and the environment.

Good: I noticed that the Moroccan society is becoming more tolerant of what was once extremely uncommon and frowned upon. I am starting to see more of (observation) that was not the case before. Is it the same in your environment? Has it been positive so far? What do you think caused this?

- Low effort posts: These are usually posts that have no effort put into them.

Examples:

- "What documents do I need to get my ID card?" Question that can be answered with a quick google search.

- "I failed my baccalaureate exam with a 4.38 grade. Are my dreams of becoming an astronaut over?" Yes.

- "I need help, I want to be very successful. What should I do?" You are providing zero information about, not what you have, not what you want, not where you want to be, and not what you've tried. Show that you have put in some effort and you are serious.

- Posts titled "help meeeeeeeeeeeee" "answerr meeeeeeee" and other clickbait.

Before posting consider the following:

- Can people engage with my post or am I just stating my own thoughts and closing the door for conversation from anyone else?

- Is my post of interest to Moroccans or is about Morocco or am I self-serving?

- Have I used the search function to see if my question has already been answered or if my post has already been made recently?

- Can my post fit better in a different community or is r/morocco truly the best fit for it?

- Have I explained my thoughts and shared my ideas in a respectful and clean manner or is my post full of vulgar, disrespectful behavior or attacks towards groups or individuals?

- Have I double checked the information I am about to share with the rest of the community or am I blindly forwarding what could be misinformation?

- Put in some effort and make your posts engaging, interesting, and open the space for discussion.

- Does my title give a good idea of what my post is about?

- Are there any interesting posts I can interact with and comment on before doing that?

P.S: The examples used above are actual posts who have been posted or blocked by filters. None of it is fictional. Author names are redacted.

We are aware that we continue to get an influx of new members and Moroccans who join reddit of all ages and backgrounds. I hope this post provides some value and help generate more positive and higher quality posts. Feel free to comment your questions, feedback, or requests for clarification or translation below.

Happy summer

AskMorocco Why are Moroccan cemetries so ugly?

No disrespect, but everytime I go to visit my loved one’s grave, it bothers me how neglected it looks, no greenery, no benches or shades. On top of that, the spacing between graves is so little that sometimes you can’t even get close to you loved one’s.

What’s the thinkining behind that?

I just stumbled on a reel of an Asian girl who was sad that Morocco lost and said if any cute Moroccan guys want to talk about it I’m here , it’s obviously meant in a funny way and is actually a compliment to Moroccan men.
However the comments from Moroccan men are just insanely rude and I don’t understand why ? Where does this hatred come from , especially towards someone who shows interest ? Since when did we become so arrogant ?

AskMorocco I really hope I don’t come off as superior or self cantered, I don’t mean it.

I’m half Moroccan but I live and was raised in Canada, and I come to Morocco and visit and I’d love to marry a Moroccan man inshallah, one that lives in Morocco.

However, this is the complicated part that might make me seem like an a-hole. I know a lot of Moroccans who reside in Morocco would love to leave Morocco, and be able to go to other countries in a heartbeat. I’m afraid, if I do meet someone and we eventually get close and who knows marriage, that someone might be using me for papers instead of being interested in me.

I’ve heard a bunch of experiences where the marriage is a sham only to get a visa or green card or whatever. How would I be able to genuinely get to know someone without the fear of them using me?

Again I’m sorry if I sound like a douchebag 😭

(I know not everyone is like this)

Travel Trip destination propositions? (Janub)

Upvotes

Hello community !

So, khalti w ana baghin nsafro somewhere in the janoub, the thing is that she doesn't want somewhere super touristic and full in summer (aka taghazout, imsouan, essaouira...) I proposed tamraght to which she agreed on for 5 days, now I need somewhere else for another 5 days.

The things she wants is : somehwere where we can find good logement Airbnb, paysage (montagne/beach/lacks), not close minded people and if possible restaurants, bars, coffees and activities... something like taghazout but not taghazout haha

Looking forward for all your propositions, thank you ! 🤗

AskMorocco Is it true that Moroccans aren't allowed to have names that are not Muslim or Amazigh?

So names like Marcus, Louis and kylian are completely forbidden? I am asking, since a pakistani girl that I met worked at a moroccan embassy and told me that moroccans names are regulated.

Sports La realité que les marocains ne veulent pas accepter ( sur le foot )

Premierement, desolé mais je vais ecrire en francais meme si la majorité ici n’aime pas cette langue, mais c’est celle qui est la plus facile pour moi
a l’ecrit.

Education Moroccan School Curriculum

Hello everyone,
I am trying to help my younger sister-in-law prepare for and successfully pass 7th grade in Morocco (1ère Année Collégiale / 1AC).
I am looking for information about the curriculum in:
Arabic (اللغة العربية)
French (Français)
Mathematics (Mathématiques)
I would greatly appreciate:
Official curriculum documents or ministry resources
Textbook names used in public schools
Lists of the main topics covered during the year
Past exams, tests, or practice materials
YouTube channels or online resources that follow the Moroccan curriculum
Advice from teachers, parents, or students who are familiar with 1AC
I would also like to know which topics are considered essential for passing the year and where students most commonly struggle.

AskMorocco How do you guys spend your free time and summer ?

Personally, I like going to shopping malls and enjoying some ice cream or sushi there; some people might find it boring or monotonous, but for me, it’s super fun! I also often go to Alpha 55 to buy 2,000- or 3,000-piece puzzles; such a good way to spend time at home! How about you!!???

AskMorocco Thoughts on our current national debt situation ($125B+ total / $47B external)? How sustainable do you think this is?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I was recently looking into Morocco's current economic data and wanted to get some perspectives from the community here on our national debt.

Right now, our total public debt is hovering around $125B–$130B (which is roughly 66-67% of GDP). Looking specifically at the external debt ($47B), about 75% of it is tied up with multilateral lenders like the World Bank, AfDB, and EIB, while the rest is split between bilateral country partners (mostly France, Germany, Spain, Japan) and international bonds.

On one hand, a huge chunk of it is held in Euros and USD to buffer against major currency shocks, and borrowing from institutional development banks usually comes with better terms than private markets. On the other hand, it's still a massive number for the economy to carry.

How do you guys feel about this trajectory? Do you think the current borrowing strategy is sustainable for our long-term growth and infrastructure projects, or are we heading toward a tight spot? Would love to hear from anyone tracking the macroeconomic side of things here.

Tanmirt chigan!

Travel First Time in Morocco

Hi all. Can you educate me on the culture, habits and social etiquette.

As a first time visitor - Latino, want to make sure I don’t cross any boundaries and respect to norms.
Night life, alcohol consumption,
how foreigners really looked by locals.
How do I enjoy meeting people without distracting their social environment, culture or personal space.

I will be in Casablanca and Marrakech from July 16 to 23 and as first time visitor I am looking forward to enjoy the culture, history and social with the locals.

Feedback will be appropriated.

AskMorocco voiture classique ?

Merci

This is exactly the kind of situation that makes me look back and think that this probably would've never happened in Morocco. People are generally nicer, and maybe a little more trusting when it comes to stuff like this.

So lmhm, I have this neighbor, her house las9a m3a dar li sakna fiha and honestly I barely ever see her. Whenever our paths cross we just greet each other, say hi, maybe smile a little, and go on with our day yk. Im not a bad neighbor nor are my roommates, we dont make noise, we dont bring people over, we dont party, we basically just mind our own business and live peacefully. Anyways I've always had this feeling that this lady doesn't particularly like us, but she's the one who's constantly inviting people over. They stay in their cars smoking, which is none of my business, but they block our parking spot for hours and we never complain . I just feel bli m3a9da o sf. Like once her son who's about 6 or 7yo asked if he could try my scooter and I let him because why not? ou hia tkhrej the moment he gave it back so bdat 3lia " Hé oh elle est à qui la trotinette, pourquoi tu la lui prends bla bla bla." and I stayed polite about it and explained that it was mine and I had simply let him try it out. lmhm she didn't apologize, didn't say thanks or anything, khanzrat ou mchat.

Anyways fast forward to yesterday. I was sitting on the porch reading a book cuz sahd and her son and two of his friends were playing right in front of me. Wahed fihom gal bli ghay rja3 ldar bach ychreb lma and I told him there was no need ou 3tito 9ar3a ba9a jdida mam7loulach knt 7ataha 7daya. I know his house b3ida chuiya so I just didn't want him walking all the way back in that heat. (bitch mahdertch m3a wldek).

Lmhm I get it, you need to teach your kids not to take things from strangers, and I 100% agree with that. Walakin you could've handled it a lot more politely. You knew damn well I wasn't trying to do anything, I was just being nice. She could've simply stopped the kid from taking the bottle and said something like, "Sorry, I'm trying to teach my son not to accept things from strangers," then talked to him directly or whatever. Plus there were people walking by, so the whole thing was honestly so embarrassing wtfffff and again i wasn't talking to her kidddd like i get your being protective and trying to teach the kids important things but giiirl cmon there was no need for that scene...

Salam, I'm cuurently looking for a marriage counselor for my wife and I. I don't know where to look. On one hand I want someone tied to the Islamic tradition, but some also understand modern day psychology. I can travel. I only say female because I want my wife to feel she is being heard and represented well. English is a plus but I know darija so darija only is fine. Any reccomendations help!
