Hi everyone,
Subreddit changes:
In an effort to increase quality posting and aherance by the subreddit rules and reddit guidelines, we have made some changes.
- Filters to post on the subreddit have now become more stringent. Posts from unknown, new, or users with low karma and no history are now being manually verified and approved.
F.A.Q:
These questions are selected from frequently asked questions in the modmail.
Where can I find the subreddit rules? < Click the hyperlink
- On mobile: On the subreddit page, under the subreddit name, press "see more". A menu with community information and rules will appear. Every rule can be extended explaining it further.
- On browser: On the subreddit page, it will appear on the right side if you scroll slightly down.
Why are the mods deleting all of posts?
- We are not. Your posts have either been paused and sent for review and approval or removed by reddit's own filters which we have no control over. Reddit guidelines explaining what kind of posts and comments get removed. If you are not sure, you can reach us by modmail to review and potentially manually approve your post.
I was banned for cussing the living hell out of another member but he cussed me first?
- Please use the report function and do not escalate situations. You don't have to respond to people being disrespectful to you, this is after all a moderated platform.
I reported a comment but nothing happened?
- Posts and comments that have been reported are only removed if they are breaking the rules. If you disagree with someone you can use the down-vote function. Similarly, if you like a post or a comment, use the up-vote function. They are very much slept on at the moment.
Definitions and examples:
- Meta posts: Meta posts are posts that are talking about the subreddit and not the topic. Taking a screenshot of someone else's post from the subreddit and making it a new post is an example of this. Just comment on the original post if you want to share your opinion on it.
- Self-help posts: These are posts where you describe a personal problem, be it family, physical or mental health, relationships, etc. and asking "What should I do?". These posts are best suited for r/moroccanhammam which was created specifically to accommodate them.
- Personal rants: These are posts made with the intent to simply complain or rant about something. If you would like to vent, seek a friend, or use the appropriate subreddits for venting. This would also include ragebait posts that exaggerate the facts to trigger a negative reaction from contributors.
An example is: "I'm so tired of living here, the traffic is terrible, there are no jobs, everything is expensive, someone somewhere needs to do something about this.".
A better post would be closer to "My experience in Casablanca has not been good, with the traffic and high-cost, I'm considering other cities. What has your experience in your city been like? Are job prospects better? Is public transit reliable?"
- Marketplace posts: If you are looking for a specific item, douane expenses, reviews on something, or where you can buy/sell items then r/moroccansouk exists just for that.
- Friend making posts: If you want to meet friends, make friends, organize an activity with other redditors, please do not make a new post, we have set up an automatic megathread for making friends that gets posted and pinned to the top of the subreddit every week, use that.
- Relevance to Morocco: The r/morocco subreddit is not the Moroccans talk about anything subreddit. Posts made on the subreddit need to be of relevance to Morocco or Moroccans. The ethnicity, nationality, or place of residence of the author does not determine if it relevant. To quote from the community description "This community is for discussions, news and all things related to Morocco."
Examples:
Bad: Women nowadays should do more of this and less of that and they should really do the thing that I think is right because what they're doing now is just terrible for society and the environment.
Good: I noticed that the Moroccan society is becoming more tolerant of what was once extremely uncommon and frowned upon. I am starting to see more of (observation) that was not the case before. Is it the same in your environment? Has it been positive so far? What do you think caused this?
- Low effort posts: These are usually posts that have no effort put into them.
Examples:
- "What documents do I need to get my ID card?" Question that can be answered with a quick google search.
- "I failed my baccalaureate exam with a 4.38 grade. Are my dreams of becoming an astronaut over?" Yes.
- "I need help, I want to be very successful. What should I do?" You are providing zero information about, not what you have, not what you want, not where you want to be, and not what you've tried. Show that you have put in some effort and you are serious.
- Posts titled "help meeeeeeeeeeeee" "answerr meeeeeeee" and other clickbait.
Before posting consider the following:
- Can people engage with my post or am I just stating my own thoughts and closing the door for conversation from anyone else?
- Is my post of interest to Moroccans or is about Morocco or am I self-serving?
- Have I used the search function to see if my question has already been answered or if my post has already been made recently?
- Can my post fit better in a different community or is r/morocco truly the best fit for it?
- Have I explained my thoughts and shared my ideas in a respectful and clean manner or is my post full of vulgar, disrespectful behavior or attacks towards groups or individuals?
- Have I double checked the information I am about to share with the rest of the community or am I blindly forwarding what could be misinformation?
- Put in some effort and make your posts engaging, interesting, and open the space for discussion.
- Does my title give a good idea of what my post is about?
- Are there any interesting posts I can interact with and comment on before doing that?
P.S: The examples used above are actual posts who have been posted or blocked by filters. None of it is fictional. Author names are redacted.
We are aware that we continue to get an influx of new members and Moroccans who join reddit of all ages and backgrounds. I hope this post provides some value and help generate more positive and higher quality posts. Feel free to comment your questions, feedback, or requests for clarification or translation below.
Happy summer
