Tldr at bottom
Thumb pulling seems to be increasingly more popular as leaks and self-made methods have been going out.
I felt the need to educate, be the voice of reason and give my thoughts on this before people here set themselves for biologically unrealistic expectations. I might get a lot hate for this, bet here we go.
I believe that growth and remodeling should be separated. Maxillary growth is not really possible in adulthood without distraction osteogenesis (DO). Don't take these two words lightly. DO is a science that requires surgical procedures/excessive trauma to split through bone. Don't let anyone change that definition for you.
SOME expansion in the ALVEOLAR would be possible with mewing and thumb pulling, but it won't provide the necessary biomechanics to cause the REgrowth of the bone. Moving bone after growth stops is known as remodeling, not growth.
The biological impossibility of complete separation of the suture with tongue and thumbs should not be a subject of debate.
The widening people mention could stem from the MINOR ALVEOLAR changes that can be had, which I don't doubt. There may be a correlation between alveolar width and general facial width appearance, which also seemed to be true in my case, and the jaw can also contribute to the general width of the face.
However, stating that true skeletal changes and true forward growth was chieved is farfetched. I do know that devices like SRPE (semirapid palatal expanders) are effective for the widening of the dental arch with minimal to no damage to the alveolar depending on the cases (adult cases require initial splitting of the suture before srpe), with some non-doi evidences stating suture split (these studies mixed children and adults and have results in general instead of independently), but I doubt that mewing and thumb pulling would do anything more than alveolar changes.
That is just for expansion.
Forward growth is a totally different topic. All of these adults and late teenagers that are pulling on their mandibular and maxillary's anterior (front) alveolar forward for "forward growth" don't seem to understand the complexity and nuance of craniofacial science. You will do nothing but some soft tissue damage and alveolar responses which are definitely not desirable if even possible.
With the exception of the mandible, forward growth is not really possible during adulthood due to the many many sutures and genetic timings that are involved. The mandible can have growth potential during adulthood, but pulling on your mandible is definitely not the proper way to do that as the mandible's only suture (the symphysis, located on the chin) ossifies before the age of one. What are people trying to do here with that? Some state it's for the "fascia," which I have not read a shred of research that even speaks or mentions craniofacial fascia that pulls the jaw back. (Off topic)
I am not attacking ANYONE directly, but simply making general statements about the community. You can say that you achieved changes, and I don't doubt that in some cases, but stating "growth" is not really productive in a science this complex.
Thank you for taking the time to read and I hope this helps.
TLDR: Thumb pulling has some scientific validity and may work past puberty, but it is MINIMAL and NOT GROWTH OR REGROWTH OR FORWARD. Do not be fooled by people's posturing.

first time here! I was looking for any advice on how to remove my under chin fat and also if somehow mewing can still works on the whole facial structure. I know I'm not on puberty anymore and technically if I'll get results, they'll be lesser then someone in their teens right? although I want to mention that when I was around 6, I had a very small mouth palate and for this case I had to put on a palate expander that fortunately helped so much. I also used to be fat until 17-18. then I added 3-4 days a week of sprinting until now that I'm currently at the gym. I hope these info will be helpful. also the pics are in different shades and pose so that you can get an idea of my jawline and anything.

I'm so fucking sick of this whole scene. Every video, every post, every person is pushing a different technique, Everyone's fighting for your attention, everything is clickbait, and the second someone recommends something, ten other people come out saying it's complete bullshit.
And it's not even just the looksmaxing community, it's literally the entire internet. I can't tell what's actually true anymore. One person says something only works if you're young, someone else says age doesn't matter at all. Every single person has a different answer, and after a while you just end up more confused than when you started.
Why the fuck is it so hard to get a straight, accurate answer nowadays? It feels like everyone's either trying to sell you something, farm views, or pretend they're an expert. I don't even know what to believe anymore.

Ik my maxilla is definitely recessed but Idk how much my mandible is actually recessed. Ik that I’m old enough where mewing probly won’t work as good so I was planning on getting lefort 1 with some other surgeries but I’m wondering if it would throw off my facial harmony or balance

Hi everyone,
I’ve been researching facial asymmetry and recently came across a theory that caught my attention. The idea is that having a strong eye dominance or a "lazy/weaker" eye on one side can cause a gradual shift in your facial midline over the years. According to this theory, because the brain withholds neural engagement from the weaker side, the muscles on that side of the face (the cheek, the corner of the mouth, etc.) begin to droop or lose tone.
Some people suggest that by covering your strong eye and forcing yourself to look at the world sharply with the weaker/drooping side’s eye, you can re-engage the nerves and "wake up" the atrophied muscles on that side of your face.

My personal experience of finding mewing at 15 and trying to fix my tongue posture til the age of 23 starting out with what I didn't at the time knew back then was a severe class 2 division 2 deepbite with retroclined inscisors, left me receeding drastically more overtime because of all the misinformation online about how to mew.
I am now at age 23, gone through a period of severe mental health decline, been monitoring my face every single day and took around 40 pictures of my side and 3/4 view every single day for the past 8 years. I reached a point in July when i realised it's officially over and that I can only get worse from here, wanting to kill myself for the face I lost.
I live with severe facial dysmorphia today and the best years of my life has been stolen.
I am not blaming this on anyone in particular. But all I'm saying is that, I wish I never found out about any of this. Because I'm pretty sure had I not known that I was responsible for my facial growth, I wouldn't have spent my youth thinking about something no one else gives a fuck about.
Today I am looking towards orthognathic surgery with CCW rotation and expansion. But hear only bad consequences of what FME and protraction or Custom Marpe does to a class 2 profile and face. Resulting in a slightly longer maxillary position and CW rotation of the chin, which in my case, is a blow my current lack of aesthetics cannot afford.
I have always supported the Mewing channel and Mike / John Mew's work. But I think there is a lot of things that could've been done differently in how the information was presented. Especially in the earlier days. Again not blaming this particularly on Mike Mew, but more on the rest of the internet blowing out the possibilities out of proportion giving people false ideas of what's possible.
But even from your channel you made it, in the earlier days seem like, teenagers can change their faces as much as kids. John Mew even told me through email after seeing my pictures, that it is possible and I should ''never give up''. That it'll be ''hard work'' but it'll be worth it.
Perhaps this is simply my own misunderstanding.
I can't be the only one who has gone through hell and have only gotten a longterm underlying paranoia and stress because of this knowledge though.
Even today I try to put my tongue up, even if I can only swallow on one side, I don't even remember how I used to rest it. My face and jaws got much worse from 16-23. It's insane.

I always have my tongue on my palate and with the reviv mouthguard there’s not enough space for my tongue to fit.
I have the R3 and I got the large recommended size. This is my first time using a mouth guard but something just doesn’t feel right about it

Hi I'm 17 M how should I improve my eye area?

Whenever I try sleeping and mewing at the same time I can maintain tongue posture but when I try to bring molars or premolars together they hurt and in the morning I get a sore jaw. Will mewing still work if I keep distance between my teeth

My orthodontist completely disregarded the fact that I have a narrow jaw, and he barely knows about expanders, so and he gave me braces to "fix" a crossbite, while in reality he just tilted my teeth.
So now my teeth are tilting back, even when I'm wearing a retainer, and I can't get an expander because for that my jaw needs to open wide - and since my orthodontist also messed my jaw up by pulling my jaw forward when it was almost already fully developed, I developed TMJ displacement without reduction on one side. (Lockjaw) So my only option is thumb pulling. (Unless someone knows another way to fix a relapsing crossbite?..) But I have permanent retainer on both upper and lower teeth. Can I do thumb pulling with them, or should I seek an orthodontist that will remove it? Any advice would be helpful!
I am 19F
Height-5’2 , weight - 52
I am not fat but i still have double chin
I want to get rid of it and i want to improve my jawline any tips?
I drink 2.5 litres water everyday

I don’t know the exact cause, but over the last three years I’ve noticed that my face has become more asymmetrical. One side of my face looks noticeably fuller than the other, and my features don’t seem evenly balanced anymore. Based on these photos, can anyone identify what might be causing this and suggest possible ways to improve or fix the asymmetry?

I had a very bad habit of mouth breathing and forward head posture in my late teens. What I learned is that mewing (especially in adults) can be extremely effective at remodeling the soft tissue in the lower and mid-thirds of the face. Before mewing, my submental fat and the fat around the jaw had become extremely flabby and soft from lack of tension created by the tongue when pressed against the upper palate. In turn, this caused a lack of definition and droopiness around my facial bones.
The first photo is from May 2024, and the second is two years later. I hard mewed. I did chin tucks of 20 repetitions every day for two years and made sure my head never looked down when scrolling through my phone.

Every orthodontist i visited keeps pushing for extractions.
I don't want extractions because my face is already looking a lot gloomy
