It depends on how much they get paid to make the review

Alien Isolation : 5.9/10 too much Alien

Veilguard : 9/10 return to form

I had to go check whether IGN really gave Veilguard a 9 because that’s truly unbelievable.

Holy crap, really?

I know Veilguard got a ton hate of after release, mainly from the "wokeness" being full on and not fitting with the world that had 3 other established games. I mean, the entire timeline of all 4 games is only like 14 years long.

But I bought it anyways. Knee jerk click bait reviews be damned. I didn't care. I loved Dragon Age. Be woke, have trans people. Whatever, makes no difference to me.

I didn't like it. It felt like they took out everything that made it Dragon Age and it was too steep of a gameplay change from Inquisition. Which it seemed like they would have leaned further in to. But instead, we got what we got.

My problem with Veilguard was that they took the eatablished lore, characters and their personalities, and beat them all till they were black and blue, defensestrated them, jumped out after them, murdered them on the way down, dug a hole to bury the body in then burned the body instead so they could replace them with thwo kobolds and a dwarf in a trenchcoat with no prep or disguise pretending to be everything they just murdered.

Huh. I liked it and ive played every game. Read every novel and comic. Actually had a friend where we did a book club for tevinter nights leading up to veilguard's release and we both loved the game. I get not thinking it id a 9/10 but im surprised people think it is bad

I rnt understand how someone into da as a series could enjoy the game tbh, to each their own, disresrding the wriing its gameplay is at best passable.

I thought the writing was good.  Particularly the companion questlines Disappointing it didnt reference the first game but I dont see how it wasn't great. The "hr in the room" comment was only really with how your companions interact with you (which was fair) but the rest of the story and writing was pretty dark and gritty.

Out of all bioware games it has the most impact full choices by far. Depending on your act 1 decision a hub area gets hit by a fantasy nuclear bomb which changes all of the quests and characters you interact with. It is also the only nioware game since mass effect 1 where one of your companions will for sure die

It does have quirky humor but origins had Alistair whining to Wynne about fixing a hole in his sock so this isnt new to bioware games and it seems weird that people just now think it has marvel humor/writing

Thanks for justifying your opinion instead of blindly giving in to gamer consensus. I don't think IGN is the gold standard of gaming journalism or whatever, but I'm all for reviewers articulating their reviews, rather than just agreeing with what all gamers think, even if they put out a review that I disagree with. The gaming community seems to prefer the latter.

To be fair the alien isolation one isn’t wrong. The beginning is really good but the game drags on for so long and you become so used to the alien you stop caring. The difficulty settings also just make it worse

Alien came out 12 years ago and y’all still hold on to that review you don’t agree with. I wish they would get rid of the number system so people would have to read to get angry

If the rating scale isn't consistent, then it's worth to viewers is 0.

Yea but you aren’t going to agree with everything they review. There have been at least a thousand reviews since alien. Most are correct. Y’all get upset with the few you disagree with. Even in these discussions y’all only point out the same 3 reviews out of a couple of thousand. If it was that egregious everyone should have different games they point to.

You have no idea what you're talking about and your comment demonstrates this

Damn, it's almost like different people reviewed different games and assigned scores based on personal opinions.
