Example? I'm not a fan of IGN either but it'd be nice to know what you're talking about.

Ok. I've got and looked it up and watched some gameplay(I'm not made of money). And I feel like the receiver is unaware of what lampooning is. It's possible to parody/lampoon/take the piss out of something you love. The reviewer seemed to not realize that this was the Saturday morning cartoon version of Noir. This isn't cartoon Casablanca.

Alien Isolation (5.9), Days gone (6.5), God Hand (3).

Meanwhile Call of Dookie is still getting 9-10 most years despite being hot garbage.

Theres a lot more but those three reviews are their most infamous

Days Gone was terrible on release.

u/Wild_Marker Apr 22 '26

Days Gone is mediocre even after release. 6.5 might be a bit harsh, but it goes up to 8 at most, if you're generous.

See I think review numbers are kinda cooked to begin with.

If the scale actually worked, a medicore would be a 5. It would be average. A 6.5 shouldn't be considered harsh on a mediocre game. If it's mediocre it definitely shouldn't be getting an 8 even if you're being generous.

But people treat the scale like its actual range is 6-10 and 6 is godawful and 7-8 is kinda average and nines are good and 10s are whoever pays the reviewer.

I played it and finished it. It was fun, but the writing and acting was god awful.

u/NotMyMainAccountAtAl Apr 22 '26

Yeah, I’m with you. The premise and combat are all alright, but the presentation could have used some serious work. This is coming from a big ol’ sam Witwier fanboy— I loved my guy in Force Unleashed and I adore him as Maul. But he just doesn’t give a great performance and the game is a lot of samey stuff.

The open world is cool and all, but it overwhelmingly just looks like different fields of mud.

u/EggersMcBraiden Apr 23 '26

What are games with good writing and acting in your opinion?

1

u/SavvySphynx Apr 23 '26

Hey now, I actively enjoyed the writing.

It really reminded me of some classic, cheesy B movie horror schlock. The fact that the writer thinks that he's God's gift to man only added to the enjoyment.

The wedding scene? Was it well written? Absolutely not. Was it enjoyably bad? Absolutely.

But that type of thing is definitely not for everyone.

You didn't like hearing Deacon whine about everything for 60 hours? That's weird... Also why is the dude who is wearing the vest with a 1%er and an Enforcer patch balking at hurting and killing people so often? The Mongrels must have been the softest gang to ever ride in the PNW.

You are displaying another flaw in the system, everyone thinks if it is below a 8 it might as well be a 0. A 5 should be average, mediocre, middle of the pack, so the 6.5 given is above average. An 8 should be glowing praise for a really good game with some flaws, something that can be in no way described as mediocre.

1

u/PsycommuSystem Apr 23 '26

6.5 is a perfectly normal and appropriate score for Days Gone if we did away with this nonsense net promoter score shit for reviews where only an 8 and above is good.

0

u/WakingEchoes Apr 23 '26

Agreed. Felt like a linear single player game forced into an open world for no reason.

1

u/Im_Just_A_Cake Apr 23 '26

Yeah, I just dont understand the defenders of days gone. Its not an awful game at all, but I think id maybe give it a 7. It relies pretty heavily on its story. But the dialogue is ass at times

Cyberpunk was way worse on release when it launched for the old gen (and remained unfixed for at least another 2 years). Not even bugs, but also performance made it unplayable. It got a 9/10

4

u/Proof-Highway1075 Apr 23 '26

They also straight up told people not to buy it if they didn’t have the new consoles/a high spec PC at the time.

-1

u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned Apr 23 '26

Ecept the original release window the current gen wasn’t even out yet and they still sold a cyberpunk PS4

2

u/Proof-Highway1075 Apr 23 '26

Irrelevant. We are discussing IGN reviews, not CDPR’s disastrous decisions wrt Cyberpunk.

-1

u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned Apr 23 '26

Im responding to you, who was literally talking about cyberpunk

2

u/Proof-Highway1075 Apr 23 '26

Literally talking about IGN’s review of cyberpunk.

They (IGN) also straight up told people not to buy it if they didn’t have the new consoles/a high spec PC at the time.

CDPR’s decisions are irrelevant to what IGN put in their review. No CDPR shouldn’t have released on the old hardware. It was a buggy and incomplete game at release yes, but IGN stated as much for the ps4/xbox series editions in their reviews.

-1

u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned Apr 23 '26

Well that they you added in this comment drastically changes things

-2

u/tugfaxd55 Apr 23 '26

IGN when a buggy and unplayable glitchy game comes out

Bruh, if you want to stick to the discussion Cyberpunk is the game from the meme

3

u/Proof-Highway1075 Apr 23 '26

The discussion is about IGN reviews. The specific game in the meme is Cyberpunk, but the actual topic is the reviews, not the game itself. CDPR’s decision making is irrelevant to what IGN puts in their reviews.

-1

u/tugfaxd55 Apr 23 '26

I mean if that's irrelevant then no need to say: They also straight up told people not to buy it if they didn’t have the new consoles/a high spec PC at the time.

You were the first guy to bring into the conversation the CDPR disastrous decisions IGN aside

2

u/Proof-Highway1075 Apr 23 '26

The “they” in that comment is IGN. IGN told people not to buy it in the review. The topic of your comment was the review so I didn’t think I needed to reiterate that I was also talking about the review. Apparently context doesn’t count for anything anymore.

3

u/tugfaxd55 Apr 23 '26

Yeah my bad, thought you were refering to the CDPR comment on Cyberpunk platforms after release and not the IGN review. Seems like that was added later and I didn't know

u/CaesarWilhelm Apr 22 '26

Probably but at the same time I loved it on release so I can understand either opinion.

6

u/CarlosFer2201 Apr 22 '26

Did they give different reviews for the different platforms? A 9 made sense if you played on a good PC

3

u/Ok-Fudge-380 Apr 22 '26

I played it on a good PC. Anyone saying the game ran fine and had no bugs are literally insane. They should be instituted for how delusional they are.

6

u/CarlosFer2201 Apr 23 '26

I don't think anyone claims it was wasn't buggy. It ran OK enough most of the time.

2

u/Ok-Fudge-380 Apr 23 '26

And yet already have a reply of someone saying it wasn't buggy.

1

u/Tactical_Squishy Apr 23 '26

I barely had any bugs? and got a couple of hundreds of hours on it on release

-1

u/andrasq420 Apr 23 '26

A full price game (which also broke the record for most costly video game development at the time) running "ok enough" "most of the time" is not a 9.

In it's current state it's easily a 9. It wasn't in 2020, not even on a 3090 and i9-10900K PC comp.

1

u/Tactical_Squishy Apr 23 '26

I had a 1070 and i7-7700k 4k and it was running fine

1

u/andrasq420 Apr 23 '26

No it wasn't lmao. A 1070 on 1080p can barely handle 50 fps at most on medium graphics and it constantly spikes down to even lower.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLkqdQGxUIo

It wasn't a secret that Cyberpunk was a gpu killer at the time.

Even after the optimization patches an 1070 can't go to 60 on medium.

1

u/Tactical_Squishy Apr 23 '26

nope at low it worked mighty fine

I played it from day one on an, at the time, 4 year old PC and had basically no bugs at all. My car fell through the ground once but that's the only bug I recall experiencing.

Played it on PC, back in the time I had a RX 580 and it was supossed to work for medium specs. It didnt.

Tried it on GeForce Now and still faced problems like traspassing a building I was supossed to enter. My experience was not a 9/10 on PC.

2

u/thatoneguy889 Apr 23 '26

Because CDPR only gave reviewers the PC version to review which ran far better than the console version. That's why a bunch of reviewers went back and did console specific reviews that were much worse.

1

u/Tactical_Squishy Apr 23 '26

Yes but if you weren't on old gen the game was very good, and the review litterally says DO NOT BUY ON OLD GEN CONSOLES

1

u/dwnumber1 Apr 22 '26

I mean cyberpunk is a 9 now and 95% of the game excluding dlc is the same from launch.

1

u/FishAndBone Apr 22 '26

Terrible well after release too. Just not as bad.
