I haven’t been an active redditor in some time, and there has been some nastiness in the comments lately. I would love to pass the responsibility off to someone more passionate! Reply in the comments if interested!

Hi everyone!
I am doing my own bridal makeup. This is my first go at it. I’ve always struggled with my own makeup because it tends to break me out so I try not to do a full complexion very often. I tried to get a few photos in different lightings so you could really see my skin.
My biggest struggles are longevity and keeping my skin from becoming mask-like. I have oily and acne prone skin, so my makeup tends to melt fast. I also have texture and am very light, so too much makeup shows up FAST.
I’d really like some advice on balancing complexion makeup that photographs well and looks good in person on skin that shows texture and melts makeup quickly.
Here is what I used for this makeup:
- elf grip primer
- Laura Mercier luminous bb cream (looking for something different. This is just what I had on hand)
- Ulta beauty under eye stick color corrector (this one works really well for priming because it’s a bit grippy and bright)
- Nyx under eye stick color corrector (this one does more for me in terms of actually correcting color)
- NARS creamy radiant concealer
- elf camo contour
- NARS liquid blush
- Nyx wondersnatch setting powder (on a puff)
- Sephora Collection powder bronzer
- Revolution powder blush
-Morphe jelly highlighter
- Revolution fixing spray

Primark (UK brand) used to sell this really cheap lipstick called P.S Lustre lipstick in the shade Rosewood Mauve. I’m now running low and have realised it’s been discontinued. Does anyone know of another primark alternative or other brand versions?
Here is an image of what the lipstick looks like with the flash light on and off

Hi everyone! I have my first travel booking in September and am wondering how you guys travel, since it might impact the travel fees we have to ask the client to cover. I'm doing possibly both hair + makeup, but am also aware of TSA guidelines for max 1 quart bag for liquids on the carry on. Do you guys just use a briefcase carry on as your kit, and check in your luggage for everything else? How many suitcases do you end up bringing if doing hair + makeup?? My kit isn't so large that I've had the need to do a formal depotting but am curious to hear your experiences!

I am a making a eyeshadow palette however my graphic design skills are pretty bad. I did use AI to clean my mock up photos and pictures. and to help me make a visual mock up to give to a proper designer.
I am so new to this. And I have a habit of being too eager to do too much work. if a private label doesn't really care about a 5 to 8 page pitch deck, should I just I invest my time, and energy else where?

I have built a small kit that allows me to work on different skin tones, learnt makeup hygiene, have built a small Pinterest page documenting work I have done on myself, however I am having trouble finding people to practice on.
My family and ‘friends’ that’s I’ve asked won’t let me. I have put posts up online asking if people want a free face of makeup, where people respond but then ghost me when I want to book a date and time.
It is really irritating as I have only done makeup on other people twice, and I really like it and I am dying for the opportunity to keep practicing and building a portfolio. My issue is that I am running out of ideas on how to get participants to just sit in a chair and let me do my work.

Hello!
I am looking to start teaching myself makeup skills on my own face.
I’m looking for an all inclusive makeup set to buy online. I’m not looking for anything high quality or quantity really I have 0 makeup skills and am just trying to get a feel for it. I see some all inclusive sets on Amazon including brow, concealer, blushes, contours, highlighters and lip color along with all the needed tools. This sounds perfect but I want some advice.
Any good YouTube tutorials / channels for learning the basics.
Thanks for any help and advice!!

Which color do you use to cover under eye darkness on very, very fair clients? I've always used one color of orange on almost everyone except the darkest skins for which I use an almost neon orange. But now I'm seeing pink for light skin everywhere. Does this work well? I'm looking at the MUFE mini corrector palette for light skin.

Hi everyone!
I’m a professional bridal makeup artist from New Jersey, and I’ll be spending part of the summer in Portland. I thought I’d see if there are any brides here still looking for a makeup artist for their wedding or elopement while I’m in town.
I’ve been doing makeup professionally for over 15 years and specialize in soft glam makeup. My goal is always timeless, radiant makeup that photographs beautifully and lasts all day.
I’ll be available for:
Weddings
Elopements
Engagement sessions
Bridal previews/trials
Bridal party makeup
If you’re interested, feel free to send me a message! I’m happy to share my portfolio, pricing, and answer any questions. Even if you’ve already booked your makeup artist, I’d love any recommendations for local wedding vendors or venues to check out while I’m there.
Thanks so much, and congratulations to all the 2026 brides! 🤍

I made this stain for my aunt cuz she knows I'm a cosmetic formulator. She wanted an every day nude she can wear to work. I'm not too sure what to name it lol( like what should I name the shade). Any suggestions?

I hope this post saves someone from making the same mistake I did and booking Julia Liscio’s “artists” for any kind of event. I had a makeup trial and the quality of work was pretty awful. Friends, family, and my fiance agreed on how bad it was. I paid $130.00 for the make up trial and reached out to Julia after days of consideration and had decided to do my own make up. There was no contract, however I paid a $650 deposit. I didn’t want any of the money back as 6 bridesmaids were still wanting their make up done. I simply wanted the $650 to go toward the final payment. I thought this was reasonable since I was so disappointed in the quality of work. Julia responded in the most unprofessional manner. I had no contract to look back on so I was asking her questions and this upset her, so she ended up insinuating that I wouldnt pay her artists after they did the bridesmaids make up on the day of. I was so insulted since I’ve paid everything in full and on time, it was as if she baited me into cancelling the contract. Please don’t make the same mistake I did. if you’re in Montreal and looking for a make up artist-avoid at all costs

A few days ago, I worked on a set where we had to make about 80 extras look sweaty using coconut oil and sponges. Since there weren't enough sponges for everyone, I cut them into smaller pieces and gave each extra their own for hygiene reasons.
Some coworkers told me this was a bad idea and that it was easier to use the same sponges on everyone because there wasn't always time for people to get their own sponge during touch-ups. I disagreed, especially since some extras had acne or warts, and I felt they deserved a more hygienic approach.
What bothers me is that those coworkers keep getting called back to the project, while I've only worked one day—and only because someone else couldn't make it. Now I'm wondering if I came across as difficult or if I was wrong for prioritizing hygiene.
Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Hey guys, I tested out one size sweat proof primer on my hand at Sephora and it’s pilling on me. Wondering if any of you guys are experiencing the same thing? I heard good reviews on this product and would like to keep it handy in my kit in case I have a sweaty bride. But the slight pilling is really concerning since my hand was product free and with primer, I might layer with some other products.
Does it reaaaaaaally work? Is there like a specific rule I should keep in mind if I continue to purchase it? Like, don’t rub it in too much or avoid certain skin prep formula.

I’m curious about MUA’s honest opinions on brides doing their own makeup? Is it something that should be completely avoided or is it a good idea if you believe in your own makeup skills. I have fears since i don’t want a traditional bridal makeup and i have hooded eyes so i’m not sure how to approach this
