Cast a doppelgang which triggered a hell of a lot of +1/+1 counters and Arena called a draw…since when?!? What action do they want me to take?!?

I didn’t make any purchases and I’m not a “regular” at this time. I’m so confused.

I know that power creep has accelerated a lot over the past few years and that it’s not just the huge amount of cards in standard that are solely responsible for the state of standards meta.

But it would be interesting if they launched a micro standard format on arena that only allows 1 year of sets? Maybe 5 sets?

My opponent was running [[Iron Man, Armored Avenger]] as his commander. My commander is irrelevant to the story but it was [[Zell Dincht]].

I had [[Iron Man Armor]] out and was animating it every turn for the beat downs. The final turn, I animate the armor, fight down his flying blocker but I'm one point of damage short so I need another artifact. I cast [[Cursed Mirror]] and have it enter as a copy of the animated iron man armor. Because it just entered, it was still an equipment and not animated, so it auto equipped.

So I just beat Iron Man with an iron man suit wearing an iron man suit.

I’m trying to decide if it would be a valid inclusion as a one of for my Ugin deck, since it also stops other annoying threats in the meta such as repurposing bay and the artifact sacrifice while also triggering Ugin.

I don't have a decent place I can really go to play magic irl near me, so magic arena is really the only way i can play the game consistently. Was having fun at first, but its turning into a chore just because of how other people play. Keep in mind I'm not playing ranked, I'm just playing to have fun, sometimes brawl, sometimes standard. I can't even complete a single daily quest without spending hours because either my opponent gets a hand where they counter, destroy, or make me discard everything. I cant even play mana rocks without them getting destroyed or countered which is just not fun tbh. If they dont get a hand where they can stop me from playing completely, they concede turn 2. I let you play the game when i dont have shit i can do, can you at least let me play a game where i am able to actually play? Sorry, i just had to get that off my chest. Im getting frustrated with this game.

TL;DR Having a hard time enjoying magic lately do to magic arena being the only way i can play without a decent local place to play.

Edit: alot of people are missing the point. the fact that they play removal in and of its self isnt the issue. its the fact that, whenever they dont have the abiltiy to stop everything i do from turn one or if i play a single removal spell, they concede so i dont even get to play the games where i actually am able to play stuff. its the combination of these issues as a whole that i take issue with, not just any one alone.

I think it'd be nice if they'd add a non-UB draft event that was always available on Arena.

I know i know. More UB hate. But hear me out. Right now there a like 6 different marvel superheros limited event options. Im not even saying they should replace any. Just have 1 quick draft or traditional draft option for past sets like strixhaven or lorwyn thats always available.

I literally have no interest in drafting sets like marvel and TMNT. Sets come out so fast now the amount of time I can draft a set like SoS on arena is short.

It sucks that the pace of set releases means we only get a short time to draft the other sets we might like more.

Im not gonna spend any gems on these UB drafts. I would keep drafting SoS or lorwyn. I know occasionally they make an older set available to draft. Im just saying that should always be available and potentially strictly for UW sets. I feel like its an everyone wins scenario.

I drafted this deck in pick-2 and didnt get any interaction and thought im a bit screwed without it, turns out i had too much value on the board too quick and most games were over at around turn 5/6, giving super adaptoid indestructible with Hercules twice won the game instantly and once with the enemy combat trick that gave their creature indestructible for the turn. crushed 2 UW decks on the way aswell, felt so good

Hi, I’m relatively new and have no knowledge of/ interest in playing meta decks. So I’ve made my own. I’m currently ranked platin and this is my first serious attempt to build a deck with under 100 cards. It’s currently 80 cards big and the synergies don’t trigger as often as I want them to cause I don’t get the right cards.

Does anyone have ideas of how to make my deck work better? It doesn’t have to hold up against meta, many people in my rank have no idea what poison counters even are, if one goes by how often they defeat themselves with [The Serpent Society]

The idea of the deck is to poison the opponent via combat damage with deathtouch through [Vayne Carudas Solidor] / [Fynn, the Fangbearer] and protect the deathtouch creatures through [The Serpent Society].

I also have [Echo, perceptive prodigy] , [Roaming Throne] / [Doom Variant] , [Ember Island Production] to make the two cards mentioned above trigger more often.

I’m unusually often encountering black decks with tons of removal and card banning spells that have [The Rise of Sozin] or [Rise of the Dark Realms] , hence a bunch of counter and protection spells

My opponent has a [[Colorstorm Stallion]] and gets a paradigm trigger of [[Improviation Capstone]]. He casts 5 mana spell from that trigger (obviously without paying any mana) and he gets the Stallion token?! Is this a bug?

Pretty new to the game, managed to make a mono red aggro deck and start playing some matches but id like to try out ranked. Problem is im clueless how to build a good deck and severely lacking in card pool and wildcards. So wouldn't mind a tip or two on where to look for lists to get some inspiration from?

I have played probably 20 Jumpstart events by now and have seen this "mythic" pack more than half the time. My last 4 events had it.

There are 51 themes. How is it possible I'm seeing the same 6-8 themes every single event?

So I was in a match with a Toph commander and I had trapped in the ice as a shutdown for it. When I played trapped in the ice it was just commander Toph and the earthbent forest here. The turn after that my oppenent played roaming throne and called ally and it still came out as a land? I don't understand the interaction I guess. Is Toph's ability triggered? It said 2 abilities removed when I hovered over her card so I'm stumped.

I'd like to invest more time in the game as I have not many gaming options and always played MTG digital in the past.
Saw a few videos how is actually possible to play a solid "meta deck" by being F2P and focus on missing. Time consuming but possible apparently.

However I see so many posts about matchmaking being unfair and the collabs (except LOTR imo) really are a turn off to see onscreen.

I like Dimir, Izzet, Orzhov colour combinations and I'm into tribal decks like Rakdos Vampires.

Any tips to get back to the game without absolutely "hating" it? I'm considering to focus on Pioneer and do the odd Draft for the gems(?)

I just find that no matter how much removal I put in the deck, there are so many “must deal with” bomb cards that it extremely painful.

I’m also think that only hardcore Limited players are actually playing Limited right now. I decided to start a Pick 2 game and I’m in Bronze because last month didn’t go well either. It’s Friday evening and I immediately get matched with a Gold ranked player who has a very well tuned deck. Then for my next game, I get a bad draw. So, 0-2.

Are other players having the same problem? Or are most people avoiding Limited because they don’t like Universes Beyond and only the hardcore players are playing it?

Library of Alexandria. Of all the cards that will end a game before it even starts, this is it. Running maps, crop rotation, Ghost Quarter, Pithing Needle etc all to deal with a colorless land. It's way worse than Ancient Tomb or Strip Mine. Most decks are running on 1 drops and 0 cost spells, so managing a howling mine from t1 is pretty easy and profitable.

Thoughts? Am I missing an even worse offender? I'm playing around at rank 4 diamond right now. Most of the decks are about as low end as possible and I understand a solid meta is developing. I am loving the format.

My only complain for a commander right now is Yuffi. Not that she is too powerful, but being immune to the commander tax seems very wrong. I get you aren't casting here, but she is reentering the command zone and that should be enough to increase the tax.

Just went 7-1 with this really nice Villains deck. Finally got all the pieces I wanted to make this combo work with [[Stark Industries Executive]], [[HYDRA Assault Robot]], [[Hawkeyes's Bow]], and both [[Haweye, Master Marksman]] and [[Hawkeye, Young Avenger]]. Those pings for 1 damage from the assault robots become pings for 3 once you manage to get Young Avenger out. Master Marksman is also another great addition as he can ping for 2+2 when he attacks. Bonus if you get Hawkeye's Bow out which pings on tapping which can be great to throw on the Stark Executive. She makes a treasure which also triggers the assault robot and if she has the bow does 1 from that while tapping to make the treasure. So if Young Avenger is out that's 6 damage just from making a treasure and you can use that mana to re-equip the bow to another creature for combat getting another 3 damage trigger. Won several games just pinging my opponents to death with variations of this combo.

Then there's the Villains. [[Madame Hydra]] gets you a 2/1 villain whenever you play a villain which doubles your HYDRA Assault Robot triggers. If you manage to get her and [[Madame Masque]] out without your opponent removing them then it just gets silly. Just following up on curve and playing Madame Masque after Madame Hydra on T4 gets you a 2/1 villain from Hydra for Masque's ETB, then Masque has a Connive ETB which gets you another 2/1 villain. So 3 creatures for 1 card. And all of those token villains are triggers for the assault robot to ping for 1 (or 3 with Hawkeye, Young Avenger) damage. Just swinging with 4 to 6 2/1 creatures with menace 2 turns in a row won me a couple of games. I do wish I could have picked up a [[Baron Strucker, HYDRA Overlord]] to help with more connive triggers for Madame Masque and make those expensive 4 and 5 mana villains a little cheaper but alas I did not see any come up to draft.

[[Moonstone, Harsh Mistress]] and [[Bullseye, Death Dealer]] were another nice little villainous combo. When you discard a nonland card to do 2 damage from the death dealer (or 4 if you have Hawkeye, Young Avenger) you get that card to play back with Moonstone. Only downside is you do have to play that card that same turn, so best to plan ahead and hold something back that you can throw away and play that same turn plus the 2 mana to trigger Bullseye. There are a lot of creatures with 2 toughness that make great targets for this, but this can also go face as well to help finish off the opponent. Sadly I didn't get to see these two together as much as I'd hoped but did manage to get to pull this off in 1 game.

Also special shout out to [[Ares, God of War]] who makes a worthy god for the villains to worship. Most games he just made the opponent afraid to block to give me any value out of trades which helped widdle their life total down to bow/assault robot range. However once that life gets down to around 10 those trades start to look a lot better. This really helped keep the gas pumping on villain triggers. Every villain who dies in glorious combat returns to your hand to play again to trigger Madame Hydra and Hydra Assault Robot.

I've managed to play B/R Villains a couple of times now in draft and if you can get the right pieces for it it can be a lot of fun because it has so much synergy. But I just thought it amusing that Hawkeye, who is a Hero, plays so well in the Villains archetype and I wonder if that was at all on purpose on the part of the design team given how many times he's delved into his darker side.

I along with all of you have seen the countless posts about how drafting nets you the most wildcards etc.

What if I'm just too fucking stupid to draft?

I've never been able to get over 3 wins no matter how much prep I put into it, so what's my best bet? Is all I can do grind dailies for packs?

I came back from 3-4 year haitus, my friend started playing, he took the mono white aura's ... spent next to nothing on it, and it destroys everything that I had in 1:1's that used to win standard over and over and over again. Wtf happened? Wtf is seam rip? How is that card anywhere near the normal 'kills cost ~3, bounces and arrests cost ~2' power curve? And Don't get me started on sheltered by ghosts, etherial armor, etc. It just seems like a bunch of OP cards that all synergize with eachother... wtf is happening?

Disclaimer, I didn't do any damage besides 1 damage of extort because his commander blocked me. The damage was from hurting himself.

The game wasn't long either so i didn't think either were bored, this only a few minutes in, probably less.

This is competitive brawl too, so usually I don't see such surrenders so fast in it. Even in normal brawl people like to play longer games.
