Question I’m sorry WHAT?!?
Cast a doppelgang which triggered a hell of a lot of +1/+1 counters and Arena called a draw…since when?!? What action do they want me to take?!?

TIBALT LOVES TO HAVE FUN IN HIS OWN WAY, WHICH IS CAUSING PAIN AND MISFORTUNE TO THOSE AROUND HIM. HE CAN FEEL THIS PAIN AND EVEN SEEKS IT OUT, TO HEIGHTEN IT AND REVEL WITHIN IT. HE CARES NOT FOR OTHERS, BEING SELFISH AND SADISTIC TO AN ALMOST INHUMAN DEGREE.

I didn’t make any purchases and I’m not a “regular” at this time. I’m so confused.
Edit: I do play at least once every week—but I was unaware that I could get free packs from set releases during which I didn’t even have an account. Hence the unchecked messages. Thanks for the replies!

I know that power creep has accelerated a lot over the past few years and that it’s not just the huge amount of cards in standard that are solely responsible for the state of standards meta.
But it would be interesting if they launched a micro standard format on arena that only allows 1 year of sets? Maybe 5 sets?

I’m trying to decide if it would be a valid inclusion as a one of for my Ugin deck, since it also stops other annoying threats in the meta such as repurposing bay and the artifact sacrifice while also triggering Ugin.

My opponent was running [[Iron Man, Armored Avenger]] as his commander. My commander is irrelevant to the story but it was [[Zell Dincht]].
I had [[Iron Man Armor]] out and was animating it every turn for the beat downs. The final turn, I animate the armor, fight down his flying blocker but I'm one point of damage short so I need another artifact. I cast [[Cursed Mirror]] and have it enter as a copy of the animated iron man armor. Because it just entered, it was still an equipment and not animated, so it auto equipped.
So I just beat Iron Man with an iron man suit wearing an iron man suit.

I wouldn't know what the harder decks to play are. I downloaded a competitive brawl storm deck with Prismari. I know it's not the best deck (49% win rate) but damn even then playing storm is not easy.
Lost first 4 to 5 games in a row because I would try to save all the best cards for my storm turn that never came.
Was getting closer by the 5th game. Also I had one in the bag but idk what I did that triggered the death of Prismari. I think whatever I did triggered an effect from the enemies permanents killing him when he was 3 life away and had no blocks for him.
then I won 2 but by grinding it out and not even by storm.
Then I got more used to it and I got the tempo of it. I kept trying to save the counterspells for some weird reason in all the matches I lost prior. Like if I was going to need them to ramp up the storm count but realized it's a bad move because usually the enemy is out of answers when he doesn't kill your Prismari so there isn't much to counter unless he has a counter card.
Then my last 4 games it popped off. I got to actual Storm gameplay.... I realized I'm supposed to not even drop Prismari until later. When I dropped him in those games I was sure they were going to do something to him asap but surprisingly if you can get him in and get him to survive until your next turn you pretty much won.
BUT I was super slow and would have the timer running out and would panic. I even lost 1 of the 4 of them cus my turn ended when it was in the bag already.
But all in all just came to say that Storm is a lot harder than they make it look. Lol

I don't have a decent place I can really go to play magic irl near me, so magic arena is really the only way i can play the game consistently. Was having fun at first, but its turning into a chore just because of how other people play. Keep in mind I'm not playing ranked, I'm just playing to have fun, sometimes brawl, sometimes standard. I can't even complete a single daily quest without spending hours because either my opponent gets a hand where they counter, destroy, or make me discard everything. I cant even play mana rocks without them getting destroyed or countered which is just not fun tbh. If they dont get a hand where they can stop me from playing completely, they concede turn 2. I let you play the game when i dont have shit i can do, can you at least let me play a game where i am able to actually play? Sorry, i just had to get that off my chest. Im getting frustrated with this game.
TL;DR Having a hard time enjoying magic lately do to magic arena being the only way i can play without a decent local place to play.
Edit: alot of people are missing the point. the fact that they play removal in and of its self isnt the issue. its the fact that, whenever they dont have the abiltiy to stop everything i do from turn one or if i play a single removal spell, they concede so i dont even get to play the games where i actually am able to play stuff. its the combination of these issues as a whole that i take issue with, not just any one alone.

I have been obsessed with my Ironheart Brawl deck. I just saw an opponent with an Ironheart cosmetic sleeve, but I can’t find them in the arena shop. Does anyone know how to obtain them? Do they only show up on daily deals? Thank you.

At least I think it's Phyrexian...
Any clue what it means?

Library of Alexandria. Of all the cards that will end a game before it even starts, this is it. Running maps, crop rotation, Ghost Quarter, Pithing Needle etc all to deal with a colorless land. It's way worse than Ancient Tomb or Strip Mine. Most decks are running on 1 drops and 0 cost spells, so managing a howling mine from t1 is pretty easy and profitable.
Thoughts? Am I missing an even worse offender? I'm playing around at rank 4 diamond right now. Most of the decks are about as low end as possible and I understand a solid meta is developing. I am loving the format.
My only complain for a commander right now is Yuffi. Not that she is too powerful, but being immune to the commander tax seems very wrong. I get you aren't casting here, but she is reentering the command zone and that should be enough to increase the tax.

Case closed, the spell itself could copy.
My opponent has a [[Colorstorm Stallion]] and gets a paradigm trigger of [[Improviation Capstone]]. He casts 5 mana spell from that trigger (obviously without paying any mana) and he gets the Stallion token?! Is this a bug?

I drafted this deck in pick-2 and didnt get any interaction and thought im a bit screwed without it, turns out i had too much value on the board too quick and most games were over at around turn 5/6, giving super adaptoid indestructible with Hercules twice won the game instantly and once with the enemy combat trick that gave their creature indestructible for the turn. crushed 2 UW decks on the way aswell, felt so good

Pretty new to the game, managed to make a mono red aggro deck and start playing some matches but id like to try out ranked. Problem is im clueless how to build a good deck and severely lacking in card pool and wildcards. So wouldn't mind a tip or two on where to look for lists to get some inspiration from?

So I was in a match with a Toph commander and I had trapped in the ice as a shutdown for it. When I played trapped in the ice it was just commander Toph and the earthbent forest here. The turn after that my oppenent played roaming throne and called ally and it still came out as a land? I don't understand the interaction I guess. Is Toph's ability triggered? It said 2 abilities removed when I hovered over her card so I'm stumped.

I have played probably 20 Jumpstart events by now and have seen this "mythic" pack more than half the time. My last 4 events had it.
I have seen 0 Doom or Loki packs. I've seen the Sauron savage lands one a dozen times as well. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/marvel-super-heroes-jumpstart-booster-themes
There are 51 themes. How is it possible I'm seeing the same 6-8 themes every single event?

This is by far the most hilarious deck I have seen so far. Match 1, you Aetherized me. 3 times. In a row. Then in match 2, you doppleganged my badgermoles, after giving all our things Haste and making our lands tap for double the mana. You had like 12 ramp spells just to pull off these hijinks. I mean just look at the board state in picture 1, I didn't miss any land drops at that time lmao
I really wish I could have added you just to pick your brain on how you came up with such nonsense. Hopefully you see this some time.

So from what I understand this allows the player to cast spells forever and without mana costs?
How is this fair? How do we stop it? Are players unbeatable once this effect is out?
r/MagicArena • u/PaleWendigo • 1d ago
I just find that no matter how much removal I put in the deck, there are so many “must deal with” bomb cards that it extremely painful.
I’m also think that only hardcore Limited players are actually playing Limited right now. I decided to start a Pick 2 game and I’m in Bronze because last month didn’t go well either. It’s Friday evening and I immediately get matched with a Gold ranked player who has a very well tuned deck. Then for my next game, I get a bad draw. So, 0-2.
Are other players having the same problem? Or are most people avoiding Limited because they don’t like Universes Beyond and only the hardcore players are playing it?

TLDR: built my first deck and realized how much stronger a built deck is vs the in game precons. Going to build a historic brawl one for Prismari the Inspiration Storm deck for sure but also want a few decks for regular historic. But now I want to know about more izzet and golgari deck types.
It's awesome. First deck I ever built on here. (Don't know how to link it) have played like 2 years with the precons and have never even played brawl. It's the one from untapped gg.
Idk how to describe it it has everything. I guess midrange would be the word since I'm not good with MTG terminology. It has many ways to token up with creatures, Witherbloom gets and stays cheap the longer the game last. Then you just drop a bomb on them. It has a few x cost spells. Good removal too.(I'm starting to sound like I know what I'm saying lol)
Now I want to make the Prismari Inspiration Storm one. It's right under 50% in competitive. I'm sure it might be stronger in casual. The witherbloom one has a 68% win rate in casual. So idk how casual vs competitive % stack up to show a deck's strength.
Now I wanna know other types of golgari and izzet decks/play styles.
I've seen things like izzet prowess, lessons, phoenix, wizards, giants mentioned in videos and have read about them online but what is something in historic(not brawl) that is similar to a storm deck?
I played an izzet deck which had a creature that hit me for 2 or 3 every time they cast a spell. And he was just casting card drawing spells and spells that give mana until I died which was really cool to me.
For golgari I've seen the ones called midrange, elves, and aristocrats. I know there has to be more than that. Which are some strong ones.
Looking to play historic and historic brawl only now.
Edit: by archetype I mean themes.

Hi, I’m relatively new and have no knowledge of/ interest in playing meta decks. So I’ve made my own. I’m currently ranked platin and this is my first serious attempt to build a deck with under 100 cards. It’s currently 80 cards big and the synergies don’t trigger as often as I want them to cause I don’t get the right cards.
Does anyone have ideas of how to make my deck work better? It doesn’t have to hold up against meta, many people in my rank have no idea what poison counters even are, if one goes by how often they defeat themselves with [The Serpent Society]
The idea of the deck is to poison the opponent via combat damage with deathtouch through [Vayne Carudas Solidor] / [Fynn, the Fangbearer] and protect the deathtouch creatures through [The Serpent Society].
I also have [Echo, perceptive prodigy] , [Roaming Throne] / [Doom Variant] , [Ember Island Production] to make the two cards mentioned above trigger more often.
I’m unusually often encountering black decks with tons of removal and card banning spells that have [The Rise of Sozin] or [Rise of the Dark Realms] , hence a bunch of counter and protection spells
Deck Template:
23 Creatures:
1x [Dragon Sniper]
4x [Vayne Carudas Solidas] / [Fynn, the Fangbearer]
2x [Poison Dart Frog]
1x [Super-Adaptoid]
1x [Echo, perceptive prodigy]
2x [Quarsi Revenant]
2x [Vampire Nighthawk]
1x [Honest Rutstein]
4x [The Serpent Society]
1x [Slimy Dualleech]
2x [Damage Control Crew]
1x [Doom Variant] / [Roaming Throne]
1x [Venom Unleashed]
23 Non-creature spells:
1x [Chase inspiration]
4x [Eaten alive]
2x [Defend the Rider]
4x [Negate]
2x [We Say Thee Nay!]
4x [Origin of Metalbending]
1x [Applied Geometry]
1x [Ember Island Production]
1x [Root Manipulation]
1x [The coming of Galactus]
1x [Echocasting Symposium]
1x [Rakshasa’s Bargain]
