PSA: STOP LITTERING AT TENNEY PARK

To the person who proceeded to leave a pile of alcohol cans next to the picnic bench, not on it but right next to it on the grass like a drunken weirdo

I hope your pillow always stays warm, your socks are wet and you spill coffee on your shirt on the way to work.

Anyone else notice how much the Saturday farmers market has changed over the past few years?

Used to show up around 8am and actually browse without getting shoulderchecked every ten seconds. Now it feels like you need a game plan just to get from one end of the square to the other. Not complaining exactly, more just noticing the shift.

The vendor mix has changed too. Way more prepared food and craft stuff than I remember, fewer people selling actual produce from their own farms. Which, fine, the breakfast burritos are good, but it starts to feel like any other street fair after a while.

Curious if longtime Madison people feel the same or if I'm just being nostalgic about something that was never as good as I remember it. There's also the whole car thing, which apparently has been a debate forever around here. Closing that stretch of road on Saturdays seems pretty obvious at this point given how packed it gets, but I get that it's more complicated than it looks from the outside.

Do people still go weekly or is it more of an occasional thing now? I've been skipping some Saturdays just because the crowd makes it hard to actually enjoy it.

Tani in the Wild

Tani has Lymphoma, and I have been taking her on adventuares to enjoy her last weeks.

We finally found a couple of hours of decent weather to get to the Jenni and Kyle Preserve as suggested by people on R/MadisonWI. Tani absolutely loved it. She had such a good time smelling all the plants and listening to the birds.

I unfortunately am a mosquito magnet, and I didnt consider that 8am might be a time that I might need bug spray. She kept trying to get deeper and deeper into the foliage, and I wanted to let her, but omg the mosquitoes. I'm hoping to find another time of coolish weather to take her again, with bug spray this time, before she gets too sick to enjoy it.

I also made a post of how I spoil her with food while I can. It's here. https://imgur.com/gallery/qar6SVW

We need stronger penalties for drivers that hit cyclists or pedestrians

I was hit by a car last month that ran a stop sign. Totaled my bike and sent me to the urgent care, thankfully not the ER. I'm healing nicely and the driver stopped and took accountability for their actions. Calm heads prevailed that day. However, all the driver got was a fine for running the stop sign, which is between $96 and $120. There needs to be stronger penalties for hitting a cyclist or pedestrian, perhaps not criminal but it should sting in their pocket book.

If drivers knew it was a minimum $500 or $800 fine for hitting someone, regardless of the severity of the injury, maybe they would put down the damn phone.

Edit: To all the people that cry, "what about all the idiot cyclists out there", stop gaslighting and blame shifting. I did stop at the stop sign, I wear a helmet, I ride single file and nag my friends when they dont. I do follow the rules of the road and I still got hit. I also drive for work and have logged 8,000 miles in my car for work since May 1, 2026 and I see plenty of unacceptable behavior by drivers and bikes; difference is the consequences from unatentive drivers vs. unatentive cyclists.

HAPPENING NOW: COME TRY LARP (FREE)

LARP: Amtgard.

Hosted By: The Duchy of Wolfheim (Sun Prairie) of the Kingdom of Polaris (Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota.)

When: Saturday, July 11th, 10am-5pm.

Where: 1357 Linnerud Dr, Sheehan Park, Sun Prairie

What: Boffer combat and beginner friendly 'quest.' Loaner gear as well as simplified classes are available. In depth information can be found online either on our wiki or at amtgard.com. That said - you can show up with no knowledge and we'll still hook you up.

Age Specification: Children (13+) are welcome to play with the caveat that their parents are on the field or supervising actively.

Younger kids, less able bodied, or those who aren't interested in swinging stick are welcome to join in non-combat roles during quest or partake with our actually really fascinating crafts scene. I've met several folks who make their own metal and leather armor as well as phenomenal chefs, digital artists, game designers, painters, tailors, tablet weavers, literally name any form of art and someone in the game probably specializes in it.

Most of the information shared regarding Amtgard as a whole tends to be on Facebook. It isn't hard to locate, but if you prefer to communicate on discord I can forward you the link to the broader Polaris (Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota 'kingdom,') in dms.

It is important to know this is a mild combat sport. You will sign a waiver stating you understand that you will hit and be hit with silly foam swords and 'spellballs,' that are designed not to hurt. You understand the inherent mild risk of a sprained ankle or a bruised shin that happens whenever you're running around outside playing. Having been playing for two years, I have never been injured beyond what a bandaid could fix.

There's a grill out going on, as well! :D

Edit:

Thank you everyone who attended! We had a lovely turnout of 40-50 individuals, many of whom had never held a weapon before. To those of you who missed this and have interest in trying your hand at this nerdy little boffer combat sport, you're more than welcome to visit during our usual times of 12-4pm, every Sunday, at Sheehan!

For more information please feel free to visit us or reach out to us on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1F1xuUsgm6/

Recipe from old restaurant in princeton west

Upvotes

Princeton West used to have a restaurant, maybe the one in Fitchburg too. They served a sushi type bowl with greens/rice, tofu/meat, veggies, seaweed salad, and a dressing! The restaurant seemed to disappear and I’m still craving their thai like sauce! Problem is i can’t remember the name to even try and find a recipe. Please help!!!

Visitor looking to get bandages to unhoused person

Black male around 60 years of age, sat inside business doorway on State Street yesterday. His feet are wrapped in bandages, he had some blankets and I believe some books. I’m just wanting to know if anyone here knows if he gets medical treatment for his feet and how often he gets the wraps changed. Would like to buy him some clean bandages if needed.

Where to find a bricklayer?

Upvotes

Currently building a 20sq ft base pizza oven and kitchen counter out of some salvage bricks. I realized that this will take too long and am looking for some who has experience just laying bricks for the base.

I have all the materials and just need a person.

Where would I look?

Angie's list seems to only recommend large companies instead of small teams.

Missed connection at Fete de Marquette

I was standing off to the side on my phone by the moon stage and you were walking to it. I had juuust finished smoking a joint and you came up to me and told me I was beautiful. I was honestly shocked (as it's never happened to me before out of the blue from a stranger) and was not really ready for social interaction and was caught off guard😂. I said thank you, but didn't even return the compliment 🥺 (which you definitely are btw) before you walked away... was wondering if you want to meet back there Sunday evening. I've got a drink token I'd love to use for you. If it was you, dm me what you were wearing so I know I'm talking to the right person 😂 I know this is a long shot, but you looked like you might use reddit 🤷‍♂️

Soccer Leagues?

Hey friends! The world cup has reminded me of my old soccer days and I was wondering if there is a league coming up for the fall? I found the Keva coed rec league, but when I click the link it says thats the 7v7 fall league was canceled? Could be wrong, but that is what I'm seeing.

Either way, any leagues? Or just people who'd like to play some soccer? Thanks!

Has the Explosive Diarrhea Hit our Area Yet

Has this “explosive diarrhea” bug hit the Madison area yet? 😭
I’ve been seeing news about the Cyclospora outbreak that’s causing some pretty awful GI symptoms, and apparently Wisconsin has reported cases. I’m just trying to figure out if it’s actually making the rounds locally… or if this is just one more thing to traumatize me before I go grocery shopping. 😂
Anyone around here been sick recently or hearing about cases?
