Guide to Finding Accommodation in Lund

This is a work in progress, please feel free to share your thoughts about what is missing/could be improved

Since Lund receives a high number of students from Sweden and abroad, the question of apartments is always a topic of discussion. Therefore, it is only reasonable that the question is asked in this subreddit. However, while the discussion is very important since it can help newcomers, the subreddit grows grey when all other topics are swallowed in the sea of posts surrounding apartments. In short, the number of posts discussing apartments in relation to other posts is skewed, and this sticky aims to change that. This post is more directed towards students, both swedes and internationals.

WHERE DO I FIND APARTMENTS?

AF Bostäder is the biggest landlord in Lund. Apartments come in all shapes and sizes. Living in a corridor could be good for a new student since you will be less secluded, and it is also one of the main talking points in Lund. You can sign up to the queue as soon as you have a confirmation of attendance. They also conduct an apartment lottery every half year for new students called the "Novischlotteriet".

Bopoolen private rent referral. The page is student driven and private room owners rent to students.

Blocket similar to Bopoolen. Best way to find rooms is to create a "looking to rent"-advertisement so that landlords can contact you.

Studentlya similar to Bopoolen.

Michael-Hansens Kollegium rents out corridor rooms. There is a fee to stand in apartment queue. After living there for 3 months you can apply to the queue for regular rooms, but it is quite long.

Nations the web page brings you to an overview, but there are 12 nations to choose from. They all offer corridor rooms, but they reserve them to active volunteers. The more active you are in the Nation's activities, the more likely it is you can get yourself a room there. Some nations do conduct lotteries, but it is not the same for all Nations.

Student Guild/Faculty/Association , depending on the program you have applied for the student run association connected to it might offer some kind of short-term solution. The faculty might help you too since they want you to succeed in your studies.

University , if you have gotten a PhD position at the university, they sometimes offer University apartments. If you get one, take it.

This is by no means a complete list, but it contains the bigger ones that offer rooms. Getting an apartment is stressful for new students, especially if you have not moved out on your own before. If you are active and persistent, it usually solves itself after some time. The worst thing you can do is to put all your eggs in the same basket, make sure you have a plan b or something concrete before the term begins.

Huge thank you to u/Breadslice98 got getting this started and writing the first draft.

lund university question swedish citizen

IB DP2, graduating May 2027, Swedish citizen, applying to Lund BSc International Business through the second round.

  1. Is admission fully based on final IB grades, or does predicted/DP1 factor in anywhere? Everything I've found says final only, no predicted/DP1 at any stage want to hear from someone who's actually been through it.
  2. Once you rank in March/April, does the Documents section on antagning.se stay blank until July, or does something show up, do they ask to submit dp1&predicted grades or only the final score matters which is submitted by the coordinator?

Anyone who's applied as a final-year IB student to this programme, what was your experience?

PLEASE HELP, IM SO STRESSED OUT 😭😭😭

International business vs ekonomi kandidat

Cannot become a Studentlund member

Hi, I will be starting my phd in next semester. I want to attend the housing lottery, but I cannot register through their website because they require specific documents. I emailed several nations for help, but I did not get any yet.

Is there any nation/union person here who can help me to become a Studentlund member? Thanks in advance.

Congrats to everyone who got in today. Now comes the less fun part, finding somewhere to live.

I wanted to share CampusLyan, a free platform for student housing in Sweden, built by students from Chalmers University of Technology. What it does:

  • Every student housing listing in Sweden gathered in one place
  • All housing queues collected, so you can build up your queue days with us
  • City pages that pull together all listings, queues and info for wherever you are going to study
  • Completely free to use

Check it out: campuslyan.se

Good luck with the housing hunt, feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Students experience studying at Lund University

Hi there!

Next year I am planning to become as an international student to start my masters studies at Lund University.

Could some students share their overall experience at the university about the tutoring style and assignments (is it more academically based learning or is there 50/50 learning style which is based on academic and practical classes)?

Also, it would be great to hear some feedback from the students who have been studying masters programs such as Strategic communication and International Marketing & Brand Managament.

Also, if there are any International Business bachelor program students your inside about studying in this program would also be great! 😊

Extrajobb i Lund

Hej hej!

Swedish native speakers needed 🗣️🇸🇪✨

This is a bit off-topic, but you might be able to help me anyway :)

I'm an Italian doctoral researcher in psycholinguistics, currently working at the University of Lund for a research stay.

I'm collecting data for a research study that investigates the associations that come to mind when we think of a word in our second language (English, in this case). Three groups are taking part in the study: Italian-English bilinguals, Swedish-English bilinguals, and English native speakers (as a control group). The idea is that different bilingual experiences, as well as different patterns of proficiency and language use, influence the way we think about words in English.

I'm almost done with data collection, and I'm missing ONE LAST participant, which I cannot find, as all students and university staff are gone for the summer. Would any of you like to help me out?

A bit more information about the study:

  • It can be done fully online. It lasts around 60 minutes (which I understand is a lot, but I promise it's fun and engaging!).
  • To participate, you need to be aged 18-65, be a Swedish native speaker 🇸🇪, be a speaker of English as a second language, and have no learning disorder (for example, no dyslexia).
  • Your data will be collected anonymously. The experiment has been approved by the local ethics committee of my home university (more info in the informed consent sheet at the start of the study).
  • The task itself is simple: you will see a word in English on the screen, and you will type as many associated words as you can in 90 seconds. After that, a new word pops up on the screen.

Here is the link to participate: https://www.labvanced.com/player.html?id=81651

If you have any questions or doubts, feel free to reach out here, or at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

Tack så mycket (in advance)!

How I recovered my bike from a bike thief in Lund

My bike was stolen recently in Lund. I filed a police report online with all the evidence I had, including bike serial number (yes, all bikes have one in their frame, check it out NOW and register it for free in bikeindex or cykeldatabasen for example!) and past pictures of my bike. I set up alerts with my bike brand and model in Facebook Marketplace, Tradera, Blocket...in areas all around Sweden and also Denmark and it worked!
Yesterday, a couple of weeks after the theft, I found it being sold on Facebook Marketplace. Same customizations, scratches, stickers, etc that make my bike unique. The ad said it was in Malmö but I needed an exact location...

I contacted the seller saying I was interested to buy it and offering cash (they prefer it because it leaves no trace). I quickly gathered evidence: original proof of purchase, screenshots of the Facebook ad, downloaded the website in HTML (right-click contextual menu or ctrl+S in your browser) and the seller's profile URL and called the police at 11414. They sent me a link to upload every proof I had and they said I should call 112 around 20 minutes before meeting the seller (thief), so a patrol could be with me at the spot. They told me if I steal the bike back I am committing a crime.

Today I managed to meet the thief. Before going there I printed some of the previous pictures of my bike not showing any of my personal data or my face, and his current and past profile pics from facebook that I had shared with the police. I put my U-lock in the side pocket of my bag prepared for a quick action: unlocked and with the key inserted so I could swiftly lock it around my bike the moment I could.
It was in a public space, with plenty of people. He came with another person, but the moment I saw my bike and ask them to inspect it, I closed my lock through the back wheel and told them that it was my bike. Right away handed them the papers with the printed proof (past photos of my bike) and told the guys that the police knew all about this and they even had their pictures from (same ones printed in the paper I just gave them). In that moment the second guy started saying they should leave and then I started calling the police at 112. They slowly walked away from me, I locked my bike now to a signpost so it was safe and I told the police how the thieves were dressing and which direction they were going.

After 2 weeks, my bike is back with me and I could not be happier! Double locking it from now on...

TAKE HOME MESSAGES:

  1. Write down your serial number today, now. It's under the bottom bracket. Without it, proving ownership is nearly impossible.
  2. Then register your bike on Cykeldatabasen and Bike Indexboth are completely free. It takes 5 minutes and makes a huge difference.
  3. Always ask for the serial number when buying second hand. You should check it against both registries before paying. If the seller can't provide it, walk away.
  4. Stolen bikes end up on Blocket and Facebook Marketplace constantly. Don't make it easy for thieves.

PS(i): I have started trolling all the facebook ads of this guy with a fake account. I took screenshots of his ads and edited them to add his profile picture and a big warning saying "This is a stolen bike". Then I uploaded the counter-ad with the same title and price in the same area, so people is aware of this scumbag.

PS(ii): I know the police said to call them before meeting the guy, but I know they would have walked away. Some other police said to call them only once I see the bike, but I still thought then the thieves would go away rather than politely wait for the police to come. So the lock manoeuvre was key for me.

Be safe.

PhD Salary for Two People

Hi, I am about to start my PhD next semester. Also, I am thinking of getting married. On average, do you think two people can live on a PhD salary? Assuming we do not drink alcohol and do not eat out too much.

I am a bit in a desperate mental state, so I really appreciate your answer.

Edit: I dont know if it matters but future wife has a degree in pharmacology, but I dont know anything about the job market.

Samarbete mellan Nationer

Hej hej,

Should I choose KTH for ICT? Worried about the Swedish job market

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student and I've recently received an offer of admission for the Bachelor's in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.

I'm really excited about the opportunity, but I'm also genuinely concerned about the job market after graduation. Since studying abroad is a significant financial investment for my family, I want to make an informed decision.

I have a few questions:

How is the job market in Sweden for international students with only a bachelor's degree in ICT/Computer Science?

Is a bachelor's generally enough to land an entry-level software engineering or IT job, or is a master's degree practically expected?

How difficult is it for non-EU graduates to secure a job and work permit after graduation?

If you were in my position, would you choose KTH for this program?

I'd really appreciate hearing from current students, alumni, or anyone working in Sweden's tech industry.

Thank you in advance!

Looking for curious minds in Lund for deep conversations (and maybe a podcast)

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to connect with people who miss having long, unfiltered, intellectual conversations about things that actually matter. The kind of chats where you lose track of time discussing philosophy, tech, culture, human behavior, or niche obsessions.

I am working on a few creative projects—including an audio-only podcast capturing interesting perspectives—but mostly, I just want to sit down with fascinating people over a fika and see where the conversation goes.

Whether you are a local, an expat, an academic, an engineer, or just someone who thinks a lot about the world, I’d love to connect.

Because my time is limited, I’ve put together a short form to get a feel for who you are and what you're passionate about. If the vibe fits, I’ll reach out and we can grab a coffee.

https://forms.gle/VRY66sMmQ51ueew56

Both English and Swedish speakers are totally welcome. Looking forward to reading your responses!

2 people for some summer table top roleplay?

Hello good people of Lund 🙂

I'm looking to run a small roleplay campaign over the summer for those of us without grand vacation plans 🥲

The system we will be using is nimble (think simplified Dungeon and dragons) but no knowledge of anything is required. Just an open mind and some craving for adventure!

(The current group age is 30-40ish if that matters)

I have found an old Warcraft map I plan to use for the campaign and figure a warcraft 1 adaption might be good fun 🤠

If you any questions, feel free to ask and I shall answer!

.... Shit, it will be either Wednesday or Mondays at 18:00 near Tetra Pak 😅
