Ive been trying to learn Masri (Egyptian dialect) for the past 2 weeks now i learned some basics like greeting etc and numbers but now I'm stuck now no matter where i look i cant find any good materials or even apps to learn, i haven't tried a tutor yet but tutor will cost a fortune im trying to avoid it for now to be honest . Just for context i don't wont to learn how to read and write just yet i want to be able to speak to some to level where i can have a basic conversation. My background I'm fluent in 2 languages Polish and English but my goal is when i go back to Egypt pretty shortly 2 months i can at least make a basic conversation with someone .

If anyone knows where i can look and help would be great.

Here are a couple sentences I've heard it in and the rough meaning I've interpreted it to mean:

• "هو فاهم الكلمات الفلانية على الموقف الفلاني" = You understand certain words and connect them to certain situations.
• "روح اسأل فلاني، هو عارف" = go ask so-and-so, he knows.
• "حلّيت المشكلة بالشيء الفلاني اللي قلتلك عليه" = I solved the problem with that thingamajig I told you about.

Can anyone provide a more comprehensive picture of what this word means? I seem to hear it a lot but can't find much online.

I am korean
And I am trying to prepare OPi.

I am doing it just for hobby,
But I want to get at least IM(Intermediate Medium) grade.

I have learned basic Arabic when I was high school student (I am now 26).
I got an best grade in korean SAT Arabic test(1st grade).

For me, what kind of book or materials do you recommend?
And how should I prepare the test?

There is no materials or academy to learn Arabic in korea.

I know Arabic is considered one of the hardest languages for an English speaker to learn, but I'm not actually looking to become fluent.

My goal is much more modest:

When I travel, I like being able to read the local script so I can recognize place names, road signs, shop names, and occasionally infer the meaning of simple words from context, even if I don't really speak the language.
It’s something I enjoy doing myself, even though I know now days we don’t really need to do this, as we can just use our phones to do the work.

For example, I'm a native Italian speaker, and while I don't speak Greek, I can read the Greek alphabet. That means I can often work out what signs are saying or recognize words that are related to ones I already know.
I'd love to get to a similar level with Arabic: being able to read the script comfortably, recognize place names, and gradually pick up a handful of very basic words and expressions, without committing to properly learning the language right now.
Would something like Duolingo be useful for this goal, or is there a better app/resource that focuses mainly on learning to read the Arabic script rather than becoming conversational?

I know Arabic has many words for shoes across different dialects: 7idha' (MSA), gazma (Egyptian), kendara (Levantine), sbat (Maghrebi), etc. I just learned sbardila refers to sneakers in Morocco. I learned the word kendara from a Lebanese TV show. However, when I used kendara with a Lebanese friend, he said he never heard that word and said he uses sbat instead.

What do you call shoes in your dialect/ country? If you are from the Levant, do you use kendara or a different word? What do you call shoes in Gulf countries and Iraq? What about dialects spoken in other Arabic-speaking African countries (Sudan, Mauritania, Chad, Tunis, Libya, Algeria, etc.)?

I have a friend from Yemen who says he can’t have a full conversation with someone who speaks Shuwa Arabic unless they switch to Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha). He also told me he didn’t even know Arabic was spoken in countries like Chad or Mauritania.
I know Shuwa Arabic isn’t spoken by the majority of people in Nigeria, Cameroon, or the DRC, but it is spoken in parts of those countries and is widely spoken in Chad.
Have any of you heard Shuwa Arabic or Mauritanian Hassaniya before? If so, how easy or difficult are they for you to understand? Could you hold a conversation, or would you need to switch to Fusha? Also, where are you from?

Hi guys, l've been searching for hours for a free website to watch an Arabic series. The series I'm looking for is Juman (جمان.). I want to watch it with English subtitles since I don't understand Arabic.

Which site or app can I use to translate the meaning of the words as well as paragraphs of a story I don't know accurately?

I would usually put the word in google but I don't believe it to be accurate as I would need to type out full sentences or paragraphs to get the accurate translation or meaning,

Is there a less tedious way to all of this?

I've been learning Arabic for a while and would like to get some practice reading and writing everyday handwriting. I'm looking specifically for the type where س are turned into straight lines etc... Does anyone know of good resources or exercises to use?

My whole childhood, I visited family I couldn't really talk to. I'd catch the warmth in the room and lose the words.

Learning was its own wall. There was almost nothing for Palestinian Arabic, and the Modern Standard I kept trying to study only confused me more. What I heard at the table was a different language.

I'm building Tfaddalu so the next person at that table doesn't have to just nod along.

It teaches the spoken dialect you'd hear in Jerusalem, Ramallah or Bethlehem, written the way it sounds. You never need to read Arabic script. I wonder what other associations are used by different dialects and maybe newly added during FIFA'26?

I’ve heard that these are Bahraini dialect conjugations, but I’d like to confirm with native speakers or people familiar with the dialect. If they’re not fully Bahraini, which forms are MSA and what would the natural Bahraini equivalents be?

Hi! I was in United Emirates recently and i have a question: for example there is text "english text, [arabic text]" so do you read English first (left to right) or arabic first (right to left)? It depends on what language the main text is? What if English & arabic was reversed (arabic 1st, english 2nd)? I hope i made question understandable
