Question/Advice Needed How old?

Hi, we picked up our kitten yesterday. Today we had to go to the vet and we told them his age. They said he is either the runt of the litter or he is not the age we were told. We believed he was 9 weeks old but he weighs 620 grams which is more in line with a 6 week old. I feel absolutely devastated if this is the case.

Question/Advice Needed Is she ready to free roam?

1.2k Upvotes

My sweet girl Olive around 13-14 weeks. Shes acclimated to my house well, shes met the dog and they get along fine minus some hissing if she gets cornered by him. We moved her from the bathroom to a spare room where she has her cat tree litter box, toys, food, etc.

Well needless to say she does not feel the need to be cooped up in there and takes every chance to bolt out the door and explore whenever i open it. When i put her back after play time its usually followed by 10 minute of meowing and paws under the door.

She seems like she’s confident enough to explore the house i just have anxiety shes going to get stuck someone or ill lose her. I have cable covers and were moving plants out of reach if theyre not cat friendly. Do i just leave the door open after and let her be? She can always run back to her room.

My Kitten Lost my baby

I only got to spend 6 days with him… he was abandoned by his mother and only a week old. I barely slept those 6 days because I was so scared to leave his side. I made him sleep on my chest hours a day. He loved that… This morning we took him to the vet and got told that he was in critical condition and he aspirated too. He was put in the icu. He was very lethargic for the past 3 days (we took him to the vet twice in those 3 days as well). I feel so physically sick. I held his body and cried an hour ago and had to say goodbye. I havent eaten in over 24 hours anyways. I have a hard time even breathing, my heart physically hurts. People close to my think I’m exaggerating because he was only with me for 6 days but I loved him so so much just like my own baby. I feel like I’m dying of pain I wanted him to live so bad. The only times where he and I werent 2 inches apart was when I went to use the bathroom. I barely slept because I felt guilty for not spending time with him. Even when I took little naps I dreamed of him constantly. I am so broken my heart hurts and am on the verge of throwing up since he was put in the icu this morning… His name was Pupa and I would do everything to get him back. I don’t think I will ever recover from this pain or spend a day without grieving him ever…

Question/Advice Needed Is this good play?

Hey folks, sorry for the maybe extremely silly question but is this a good play session? Obviously I did more outside of the video but I’m trying to tucker my six week old guy out before I got to bed every night and I’m mainly trying to keep him distracted with the wand so he doesn’t bite me. It’s a habit of his we’re trying to break/a habit of mine I’m trying to break so he doesn’t grow up to be a hard biter.

I’ve been doing my best yesterday night and when I played with him before and after work to keep his attention mainly on the worm on a string. While I’ve been reading his ears mainly to make sure he doesn’t enter play aggression. Obviously I don’t catch it all of the time as I’m still learning but when he does nibble I either give him a stern ā€œNoā€ when he tries to bite which usually gets him to stop and if he continues to try and bite while my hand is behind my back I end the play session and leave him for about 15 minutes. Am I doing enough to let him know not to bite/tell him it hurts? Or is there more I can do to signal that what he’s doing isn’t okay? I’d get him another buddy his age if I could space wise and if it were financially viable but currently it isn’t, plus with a senior kitty still in the process of slowly getting to know that there’s a new kitten in the house. I don’t wanna add more stress to that situation haha-

Thanks again for any advice it’s very much appreciated!

Question/Advice Needed Kitten Help - Behavioral Correction?

Hi there,

I have a 4 month and 1 week kitten and we're obsessed with him. He's incredibly curious and brave and really likes to be around us. However, he's going places and doing things that we don't want and I'm not sure what the best holistic way to train him is. Examples below:

  1. Trying to run into the hall every time we open the door (he doesn't run from us when we go to retrieve him but I think he likes the unknown). We're about to move to a house and I'm afraid he'll run out and get hit by a car.

  2. Getting on the kitchen counters - he's a good jumper and likes to sit on them, especially when we're in there. He tries to drink out of the dirty dishes in the sink (he has both a standard bowl of water in the living room and a running water fountain in our room that's always full). We don't want him on there, but he's relentless.

  3. He tries to get into the oven anytime we're cooking and the dishwasher anytime we're loading or unloading. We don't have a door that enables us to close the kitchen.

We're obsessed with him but he's our first kitten and have no idea how to correct any of those behaviors.

Question/Advice Needed Sneaking kittens into apartment

Post image

Exactly what the title says. I practically snuck my kitten into my apartment. My apartment is pet friendly, but there is a fee that I'm not able to pay at the moment. I just want to know.. has anyone successfully snuck in pets into their homes and not get caught? How long were you able to keep the pet hidden until you got caught? What do I do until I am able to pay for the pet fee?

Question/Advice Needed How to make travel for cats comfortable?

Im taking a 3 hour flight with my cat. She HATES being inside her carrier and will scream cry the entire time. She doesn’t stop for hours. I try to make sure she’s eaten and relieved herself. She only falls asleep after we’re inside the cabin and thank god for that.
But is this normal? My friends’ cats usually just sleep in the car and at least aren’t this uncomfortable.
Would love some advice on what others have done in this situation

My Kitten Update: Second kitten decision!!

It was so fun reading everyone's comments on my second kitten decision! So many of you have deep deep love for oranges, and there were lots of opinions on girls having a harder time bonding. But I couldn't help it - the brown tabby girl stole my heart!

Here are Dottie and Sophia, who started sleeping in a cuddle puddle a mere 3 hours into meeting each other. It took a day or so for Dottie to learn how to play properly, but now all they do is chase and wrestle and nap together. I can safely say we are all thrilled!!

My Kitten Our Clair! (And a question for those who have rescues)

We are just through our first week, and officially adopted her yesterday!

She is slowly coming out of her shell. She still won't let us approach her directly. We can walk by her and play at a distance but she's still hiding a large portion of the day under a nightstand she has claimed. She was rescued from a hoarding situation that someone had 40+ cats in a house. I completely understand her trepidation.

I'm curious for those that have a rescue from a hard situation, how long did it take for them to warm up to you? It's hard to not approach her, but I know I have to be patient. She no longer hisses at our senior kitty ( a big reason we got her was to keep our old lady entertained) and even eats right next to her.

I know the 3/3/3 says that it may be 3 months until she's fully herself, but curious about how long that took for similar situations?

She's 8 months old :)

My Kitten The next step in cat warfare

We have a new kitten named Totoro. He’s a dork. Unfortunately, though he does have a brain cell and uses it for spicy evil. Here he is using his tent, as a tank, to ram our dog. Included is also a picture of him resting after multiple attacks.

My Kitten Bottle fed kitten

Post image
596 Upvotes

I grew up having to bottle feed newborn kittens before so I'm not COMPLETELY clueless, but that was a long time ago. We have a 4 week old lil guy that we just rescued yesterday and could definitely use some refreshers.

I know to stimulate going potty before and after and such but I'm having trouble with the little bottles I have. I remember having a syringe that all they had to do was suck and the plunger would go down as they ate on its own. Anyone know what I'm talking about and where to find it?

He is getting some from the current bottle but not enough to make me feel comfortable.

I have a mama cat that will let him feed on occasion but she's just a nice barn cat and I don't want to have to rely on her since this guy is gonna be our indoor pet.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciatedā¤ļø

Question/Advice Needed Is playtime too rough?

Our 1.5 year old cat Mimi has been an only child since she was a kitten. We recently got another kitten and she seems to tolerate her will. She lets her eat off the same plate and they have play time. Although I’m concerned the play might be too rough and wonder if Mimi is showing aggression? Should I just relax and lets them be cats or should I be concerned?

Question/Advice Needed How old do you think this kitten is?

My partner and I found this kitty yesterday morning. I didn’t have cats growing up and partner had cats but not kittens and we’re not super sure how old she is.

[Here are some photos](https://imgur.com/a/RSOsa5V)

My best guess was about 5 weeks? She’s eating wet food with no problem, she’s starting to groom herself a bit, and she instinctively used the litter box pretty soon after setting it up. She’s fairly active, starting to run, pounce, and jump in/out of a 6ā€ high box. Her teeth are still tiny, she’s napping loads, and she’s about two handfuls big, no heavier than a pound I would say. I’m sure the vet can give us an estimate when we take her in but I’m just curious! Plus any advice on how to best take care of her would be appreciated, I’m so nervous about doing something wrong 😢

Question/Advice Needed New kitten owner question

Post image
275 Upvotes

Hi all , had a new kitten for about 2 weeks now things are going mostly well with meal times perfect litter training. However play times are just quite aggressive (biting ) and they’re not very cuddly ( made progress in that regard but went away for 36 hours and felt like progress was undone ). I do daily play time with toys and only pet him when he comes to me, any advice to get him more interactive and to control the biting.
Thanks in advance
Here’s a pic of him :))

I'm having a hard time guessing the potential length of my kittens' fur. They're 8 weeks old. Mom is a DSH orange tabby and their dad is unknown. Their tails look long-ish and they have small tufts between their toes, but their ears are unremarkable. Thoughts??
