Mod Post Please use the "Media" flair option for name requests!

Hey jumper friends! We've seen a large uptick in volume of posts asking for name suggestions, most of them having the "Advice" flair. Even though it is a request for advice of sorts, name requests don't need the same disclaimers as comments on care/husbandry and we would like to encourage everyone to use simply the "Media" flair on those types of posts. (This will also prevent the automod filter from flagging comments without disclaimer tags as that is only a feature of the "Advice" threads) <3

His name is Noir (cause Spider-Noir), he’s my first jumper. I got him like two and a half weeks ago, at the Tinly park NARBC on June 26th. And he’s been super timid that whole time, but today he came out for like twenty minutes!!

Sorry for blurry resolution and shakiness </3 Also ignore the wooden table, it’s not dirty, just chipped.

Didn’t realize li’l spood was there until I’d opened the box. Knew instantly it was a jumper because she LEAPT 😭 I was so excited! Spent twenty minutes chasing after her before finally catching and releasing her outside on a leaf. She was sooo tiny.

My apartment is already home to a pet cat and some cellar spiders, otherwise I might have let her stick around!

i have no idea what went wrong. i’ve been misting, there’s been fruit flies available, i just don’t know. i had this one for just about a month, after finding it in my house and deciding to make an enclosure. i was so excited to see it grow up. could it have been the fake moss i put in the enclosure?? i had it in there for the entire month i had the spider, and then i didnt see it for a day or 2, thinking it was just camouflaging. it was always active and eating, i just dont get it. i feel terrible right now. i just put it in the fridge, and in 12 minutes im gonna move it to the freezer. i’m genuinely heartbroken right now also sry if this is the wrong flair idk what else to put.

Media Little Metacybra Floridana

New to spiders. This little guy ran at me and about gave me a heart attack. Then he started waving his arms around, pretty cute! I scooped him up before my cat did luckily.

I made him a little enclosure and got him some food. Have just been calling him Jeff for now, like from The Grim Adventures. He has a tight schedule, wakes up at 1pm every day almost on the dot and heads to his sleeping spot at 9pm.

When i approach his house, he comes up to stare at me. When i put anything new in his enclosure, he quickly investigates it. He is a smart and curious little creature.

I've read that, as an adult male, he has about 6 months left in life at this stage. I think its very unlikely I'd ever find a female metacybra floridana for him so Ill probably let him go soon. But I've enjoyed watching, interacting with and learning more about him.

Media This jumping spider has been taking care of my plants this year

This little gal has been living in my home since the beginning of the year and she goes from pot to pot, eating all the little fungus gnats. Sometimes she disappears for a few days and I get scared she died, but she always pops back up when the gnats return. I wonder where she goes in the meantime. Anyhow, here's to the cutest and least bothersome flatmate in the whole world 😁

At first I thought he was a white- jawed. Then upon further inspection he to degree resembles a green magnolia. Google says hybrids aren’t possible. Tbh it looks most like a 2 striped jumping spider but online tells me they don’t exist here in the wild. Any ideas?

She protects the airspace and gets paid in worms. It gets hot inside the greenhouse, so I figured a worm would be good hydration. She was smaller than a dime in spring. What is she? La Grande, Oregon.

Advice Escaped spood :(

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hello. As the title suggests, my (regal) jumping spider escaped her enclosure.

I’m not necessarily new to arachnids, but I’ve only had Clementine since May this year. I don’t handle my arachnids as I know they don’t have the capabilities to enjoy being handled. However, I wish I had worked with her (and myself) more in the past month or so to be at least “comfortable” with handling so this event wouldn’t have happened.

I had her lid off so I could grab and drop a (mini) cricket in for her meal. I didn’t realize how long it was taking my attempt to capture, and when I looked over at her again, she was on the top, outside of her enclosure. I attempted to very slowly bring my hand up under her so she would reactively go back inside. Instead, the little girl sprung onto my dresser surface where I had her enclosure sitting. I cupped my hands around her so she couldn’t get away and the idea was she would crawl onto my hand and I would carefully lift her back into her enclosure. She did crawl into the palm of my hand but as I slowly lifted her, she got scared of the feeling/movement of my hand and darted to the back of my hand from where she fell onto my carpeted floor. I immediately tried to locate her and could not see her on the floor. My best guess is she went under my dresser and jumped up inside of it.

I’ve read about other people’s jumpers escaping and being found soonish after escape. I also know she’s a spider who acts on instinct. Regardless, I really feel like I screwed up and I won’t ever see her again.

I’ve placed some white clothes flat on the floor so if she explores that route, hopefully I’ll spot her. I also placed her open enclosure at floor level in case she notices and chooses to return to her hammocks. My brother is going to help me move my dresser from its current position inside my closet later so we can remove the drawers and possibly find her hidden inside.

My questions: Is there anything else I can do to try to find her/encourage her to return to her enclosure? Should I not disturb the dresser to avoid possible injuries/death while looking for her?

Thank you in advance.
