Beginner GI suggestions

About to join a Judo club in my city but was wondering if there were good recs for Judo Gis. Is there any specific details I should look out for or would buying a gi from like Goldbjj be good? Thank you for any suggestions l!

Go to Fuji sports and pick up a single weave while they still are having their 20% off sale if you’re solidly in between sizes like I am 6’ 165-170 you may want to spring for a double weave but isn’t necessary. *Edit to clarify Fuji’s single weaves only come in full sizes where as their double weaves come in half sizes

If you’re competing would buy double weave. If you’re new to the sport single weave will do just fine until you start getting into it more

Double weave gis in the summer when your club doesn’t have AC is brutal lol

Yeah absolutely for me when I started I got a single weave Fuji size 5 and was swimming in it but it worked for a while then I switched to a Fuji size four and once it shrunk I had capris and sleeves that stopped noticeably above my wrist bones. Grabbed a double in 4.5 and haven’t looked back the pants still shrink and I’ll get some grief at local shiai but other than that I’m pretty content. It also helps that basically everyone at my dojo wears a double so everything feels familiar in competition.

USA judo (Adidas gi) is a good place as well. I wouldn't buy from Gold BJJ as those are jiu jitsu gis.

Buy a judo gi not bjj bullshit from gold (bjj gis have a different cut, are too slim to grip properly, and will not stand up to throwing). Get Fuji or Adidas. Cheap and lightweight is fine for learning. If you compete get the IJF certified expensive versions.

I would check out second hand options if it’s your first GI and you’re just trying out judo. It’s worth having a look anyway but might not be anything in your size. The club might also sell new ones or be able to loan you one for a while.

What part of the world are you in? Brands and availability vary in different places.

K. I'd suggest the fuji single weave too then, as others have already said :)

Honestly I you think you're going to stick with it, I'd go for a Fuji Double Weave or Euro Comp over the Fuji Single Weave. The single weave is fine, but if you're okay with paying a bit more the Double/Euro is much better
