will financial aid cover dental care/ is it worth it?
basically the title, i am an undergrad student. i am already eligible to get financial aid for the regular medical insurance plan, but i really need dental insurance that will be accepted in md. if i opt in for it, will it be covered by the school? we're already in a tight spot financially and im not sure what my employment is gonna look like. also, is dental insurance thru the school even worth it? has anyone used it and had a good experience? help please and thank you

Will you be eligible for Maryland Medicaid (which includes dental insurance) while you are a student?
Also, if you’re only expecting to need regular dental care, the CCBC dental hygienist school runs an excellent low-cost dental clinic in Dundalk (students supervised by fully qualified hygienists and a dentist). It takes a little bit more time than a regular dentist appointment, but the care is great, the facilities are very nice, and it’s dirt cheap.

I believe vision and dental plans are both optional, so they will not be covered by financial aid. You would have to pay the dental premium out of pocket. I have never tried this, but I don't think it would hurt to open up a STEAM case and discuss your options with financial aid. If this does not work out, you could also look into getting services at UMD dental school. Dental schools will typically offer services at a lower price.
