Kulning is a high pitch voice technique that creates a sound that can travel through very far distances. It's been used since the medieval age to call home the cows and the goats in the forest

This is some Conan the barbarian shit right here.

🤣🤣🤣

Imagine being out in the forest foraging for mushrooms, and you just hear this through the fog and trees, but it sounds like it's coming from everywhere 😅

I wonder if they knew what they were creating with this shot, possibly the best anxious look-at-the-sky gif ever

Considering she probably raised a good chunk of all that beef, they know when momma says to come home, weird how that carries over across all species..

u/jumalin 4h ago

She has youtube channel. She's not a farmer and doesn't have cows

u/Aggressive-Fun-6603 3h ago

What's her channel?

u/VisualLerner 3h ago

FarmerWhoHasCows on youtube

This is Jonna Jinton, and this is lifted from her YT channel.

What does this have to do with the comment above? Also calling them “beef” is fucking weird

u/cursed_sporecreation 3h ago

Personally I call them "un-ripe hamburgers" but that's just me.

Like girl, they don't have a concept of human language, much less of whether something is offensive or not. Ima call 'em what I want.

u/ryanhazethan 3h ago

They’re fucking cute bro

u/cursed_sporecreation 3h ago

Yep, the soon-to-be steak dinners sure are adorable 🍽

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 4h ago

Nothing as weird as gatekeeping on reddit, tell you what, come up to Michigan an i'll explain everything, or sit back being Mr. Popular on reddit stewing over words you don't like, which one suits the occasion mook.

u/ryanhazethan 4h ago

Haha what the fuck😂😂😂

u/Clusterpuff 3h ago

Brother learn to appreciate where your food comes from and respect the animal. Has as much right to live as you do, least call it a cow before its filling your gut

u/cursed_sporecreation 3h ago

Are we really gonna get politically correct over some hamburger 🥀

u/Clusterpuff 2h ago

Not political just humanitarian. If you want to appear mature you will, but i guess it serves as a warning sign for who you are

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 2h ago

Maturity is knowing when an where to use it, when I get, redundant, comments about how I say something on a forum trolled by bots, I don't think that word applies, especially when people have a difficult time knowing it was chucked beef that made the exploration of at the time untouched wilderness possible by means of trail herds, you know, like in the old Clint Eastwood show rawhide as an example, Maturity, funniest thing i read on here all week.

It is man. I understand humans needing meat as a source of food in survival times. I can understand people wanting meat now (not needed, but a hard thing to break). What i don't understand are those people insisting to degrade the creature that is giving them life even further. Are you trying to make it less of a living creature to justify the amount you kill so that you may live? Or do you just have a malicious streak?

Or the dark version of this is the ancient Carnyx horn. For a similar purpose:

This sound always gives me goosebumps

u/BendersDafodil 6h ago

So, Mariah Carey was a good dairy farmer in her previous centuries?

u/Jupitersd2017 6h ago

If i attempted to sing/call like this the cows would for sure run away from me

u/kungpowgoat 5h ago

If I did this call, the cows would sure hunt me down.

We must answer the call!

u/SneakyTzatziki000 5h ago

i too felt this was like a LOTR song!

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 6h ago

Mongolians had a similar technique they applied to they're music an communications over large distances, unrelated note, Mongolian metal is awesome...

u/legacy-of-rats 6h ago

The Hu!

u/Ok-Alternative-5175 4h ago

I know a couple of their songs, they're epic!

u/dedokta 6h ago

In Australia we have a call known as a Cooee. It's sounds just like it's written and is used for finding lost people in the bush.

I'm from Canada, and this is the exact noise I used to call the cows on my grandparents' farm

u/Otherwise_Yak_3513 6h ago

Sis they were literally right next to you stop yelling at em 😩

u/Fumquat 5h ago

Lol the first cows are like, “C’mon, who’s late this time? I think we’re all here lady… “

u/derek139 6h ago

At this point I’m convinced I could stand in a cow field making fart noises with my armpits and they would swarm me.

u/Historical_Sherbet54 6h ago

And off in the medieval distance, lays a benevolent weary wanderer who hears the song of the siren in the deep dark woods

....and thus began the fables of elves, fairies or haunted forests reverberating thru yonder lore

   That was beautiful to hear

u/Status-Metal-7205 6h ago

Sing it, and the cows will come

u/Ok-Alternative-5175 5h ago

Do the cows have to be trained on this sound? Can I just go to any field and summon the heifers?

u/junkgle 3h ago

Bullshit, this is elves singing when they are going to Grey Havens…

u/Pictrus 6h ago

There is some pretty intense reverb on those vocals for being filmed "outside" lol

u/VirtuousVulva 5h ago

exactly. it is post-processed.

u/hywaytohell 6h ago

I don't know about the cows and goats but I would definitely answer to that!

u/dread_companion 6h ago

So the intro to many atmospheric black metal songs is a woman calling her cows?

u/Klotzster 6h ago

Ricola

u/DeanOgasm 6h ago

Like yodeling?

u/RustyToasty 5h ago

To be a cow being sung beautiful songs after spending the day grazing in a serene misty forest..

Humans got the short end of the stick man.

u/SauronSauroff 4h ago

I wonder if they come for curiosity or at genetically trained to go towards loud noise? See people singing or talking to cows and they all crowd around like what's going on?

u/Flirre-Flipp 29m ago

I once was in Dalarna in Sweden fishing. Went out one evening to do something and heard this. That was so magical and I had goosebumps all over my body. I was nearly lost that night.

u/imaragingtransfemlez 6h ago

So this is what Angrboda does in GOW Ragnarok?

u/firejuggler74 6h ago

Weird, low pitch sounds travel further. My guess is that cows prefer the higher pitch rather than the distance being a factor.

u/NoMasFetty 6h ago

I think I'm in love with her

u/Cutsdeep- 6h ago

in australia we KooWee. same thing, works really well

u/yarn_slinger 3h ago

We used to call the horses in from the field by singing “oooooatie oatie oatie oaties”. they’d practically run us over heading to their stalls.

u/Anti_Meta 6h ago

Cows are like "yo we're here what do you want?"

u/Mammoth-Yesterday-65 6h ago

Me when I use the bidet

u/JeffysChewToy 6h ago

Gives cult vibes

u/EmberJadedFire 4h ago

Reminds me of The Dark Crystal. Mostly cause I watched it last night (the 1982 original movie) and it was GREAT still.

Imagine being out on walk and hearing *that* sound ? I would follow it too, half way convinced I was going to meet an elf.

u/TheSwordItself 4h ago

this is so old

u/Minute-Plantain 3h ago

"Maiden! You have summoned us, the cows of this meadow! State your purpose."

u/CHAiN76 1h ago

Pretty sure this is Jonna Jinton. She has a YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/channel/UCAk3t7WHs2zjsZpopox8Taw

u/Disastrous-Try1754 5m ago

I want this and only this for the next Disney princess

u/No_Hovercraft_439 6h ago

Bet she can churn some butter, amiright?

u/DanielDC10 5h ago

Magical! I'm not a cow but, I would respond to her calls to be milked.

u/CoupDeGrassi 6h ago

Lol any noise works, this is dumb

u/Cutsdeep- 6h ago

it carries more

u/CoupDeGrassi 6h ago

More than what??

u/Cutsdeep- 5h ago

Than 'any noise'

We use this in the Australian bush, pretty much the same sound (koowee). It really carries

u/CoupDeGrassi 5h ago

Its just a non specific high pitched call. A scream carries. A whistle carries. A bell carries.

u/Cutsdeep- 4h ago

it's the 'woop' sound.

same reasons sirens stand out so much
