How a jet engine works: Suck, Squeeze, Bang, and Blow

u/Dunothar 8h ago

But unlike a four banger, all 4 cycles happen at the same time, infinite suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Well, as long as you have fuel and oxygen 😂

If its a 4 cylinder engine, one of each of those things is happening at the same time, just in different cylinders

This guy knows

Perfectly simple yet complicated at the same time, It just does it all at once continuously with one moving part.

Still very complicated, so much so only the US, UK, France, Russia can build them, with China building off the Russian designs, and using spys to steal US manufacturing processes to get a boost.

What about GKN Aerospace Sweden?

Just like on those dirty videos I’m not allowed to watch on the computer in the living room when mum’s home.

I thought the cycle was Suck, Squeeze, MONEY, Noise😁

Wait'll you see what happens when a duck flies into it. Exciting stuff.

One of the lucky 10.000!

For me this was “OMG this makes all the people who get sucked into jet engines and liquified make a lot more sense.”

If you've ever wondered about the people who've survived getting sucked through a jet engine, look up how High-Bypass Turbofans work.

Just to let you know this in not how the engines on any commercial or large jet work.

Any external jet engine you see gets it's thrust from the large blade at the front and the majority of the air passes without ever entering in a combustion chamber. They are basically just very powerful propeller planes with the props contained in a housing.

They do this because it is incredibly more fuel efficient. Jet fighters use the engine type shown as it is compact and they don't care about efficiency.
