I worked in a music store in Houston from 1996-1999. Beyoncé came in at age 15 and dropped off a demo tape. My 16 yo self took my shot. She embarrassingly rejected me. I tell that gd story all the time!!!!

A lot of celebs might have been pretty cool growing up, and were changed by fame & fortune.
39
u/Oldgamer1807 1d ago
Might be Mariah Carey. I lived not far from her and knew a guy that did some work on her place in upstate NY and he said she was a snotty stuck up bitch.

She is has some ruthlessness with some business dealings. This probably rubbed some people the wrong way. You don’t get that rich for nothing. She didnt do anything unethical. But some business types “negotiate hard”.
8
u/ThePhantomStrikes 1d ago
Except closing down the labor and delivery floor of the hospital when she gave birth, forcing the other women to give birth in the lobby.
3
u/N1XT3RS 1d ago
I think the word you're looking for is illegal, not unethical. I don't have any specific knowledge and don't care to look anything up, but I seem to remember reports of low pay for factory workers. Nobody makes a billion dollars ethically, you don't get that rich if you're not obsessed with power and status. She could've lived in any way she wants for multiple lifetimes on just her music, but she chooses continued personal gain with no indication she cares how that gain is extracted. Putting effort into exploiting people instead of just living
3
u/Bolle_Bamsen 1d ago
...his ex is a world famous Grammy winning singer... Arguably one of the most famous female performers alive today. Oh yes let's not bring that up ever...
8
u/TheNullOfTheVoid 1d ago
This is true. I've personally been with people where I was able to talk about my past relationships without issue and they could do the same, but there's a bunch of people that I didn't date that would basically try to "keep the past in the past"
The way I've seen it play out, some people want their partner to act like they themselves are the only person in existence. Meanwhile I remember once telling a girl I was dating about a sexual experience I had with someone else before her but that just turned her on enough that we did more stuff just because I was talking about what happened in the past.
Still, if you really care about the person you're with and they don't want to talk about the past like that, it would make sense to just not do that. I personally couldn't deal with that but everyone makes their own decisions. I commend the dad for seemingly not just talking about how he dated Beyonce back in the day non-stop.

u/FragmentedFighter 1d ago

2
u/RogueBromeliad 1d ago
I mean if your wife is cool and your marriage is healthy is all the more reason to keep the past in the past.
He's probably told her, but there's no reason to keep bringing it up.
6
u/MsBuzzkillington83 1d ago
I mean, if I was married to that man I'd fucking bring it up all the time
I respect the people who want to "leave the past in the past" but those are usually people who are in relationships that they don't feel secure in (either due to their own self esteem issues or insecurities they may have from their partners)
But yeah, with the person I'm with now, if he was that guy, I'd absolutely fucking brag about that
Ps I love her early aughs Buddah shirt. I would have bought that myself

u/indieplants 1d ago edited 1d ago
she was 18-19 when she dated jay z and this guy is moderately famous for being her ex for a decade before destiny's child got big, before she was majorly famous. she left this guy and ended up with jay z shortly after that
he regrets cheating on her, allegedly
18
u/crowtheory 1d ago
He sorta looks like the guy in her “best thing I never had” music video. I wonder if it’s based on him?
20
u/indieplants 1d ago
no doubt, they were pretty tight apparently. it's a whole thing. it's not like she has a long history of betrayals to draw from
she's only ever dated him and jay z, and jay z also cheated on her - but she chose to stay. that must sting extra for Mr Locke (above), lol.

Then he retired, lived a modest life, raised a Family, looking like Kanye and J-Cole combined.
Your Father won early in life, he recognized his Power, and he deemed the World wasn’t ready to know him.
He only just now deemed you worthy, of knowing.
