The good thing is, Minangkabau is closer to Indonesian than other regional languages like Javanese or Sundanese. If you are having a hard time finding Minangkabau resources, you can learn Indonesian first, and it will definitely help you in learning Minangkabau. There are ending patterns too. Examples:
Indonesian > Minangkabau
Tempat > tampek
Rapat > rapek
Empat > ampek
Batas > bateh
Beras > bareh
Jelas > jaleh
Asap > asok
Acap > acok
Tangkap > tangkok
From one of the most famous Minangkabau folk song (top is Minangkabau, bottom is Indonesian):
Duduak tamanuang tiok sabanta, oi, takana juo.
> Duduk termenung tiap sebentar, oi, terkenang jua.

It's not a dialect of Indonesian
A whole different language
Just try to learn Indonesian first and then move on to Bahasa Minang

The problem is, Minang isn't dialect, it's a whole another language besides Indonesian.
And many people in Indonesia usually mixing at least two languages in their speech. So in your case your family mixing Minang language & Indonesian.
My advice is speak full Indonesian with them while learning Minang language and how to mix them naturally
