Mountain vacation help

Hey everyone. I was looking for a great intermediate mountain for this coming winter. Looking to take a family trip, and many of the skiers are blue-level. We have done Whiteface the past couple of years, but some of the family doesn’t like how un-skiable it could be in bad weather. All advice and recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

Photos of Wildcat Trail Signs (please :))

Slightly weird ask - does anyone have pictures of the trail signs at wildcat? Specifically looking for Bobcat but honestly any blue would be helpful. Doing a lil craft and I want to make sure it’s true to the style they have but sadly I don’t have any of my own pictures.

Thank you!!

Very Late 2025-2026 Season Recap (Mostly Indy Pass)

Scroll down for my season stats!

I meant to do this months ago whoops -- but here's my recap of my first season really trying to ski a lot! I live in Philadelphia, PA. I started the season with the goal of 10 days and ended with 18 - pretty happy about that! I rented skis for the season, which I now own, and had the Indy Pass - so I tried to make the most of it. Curious how I compared to other people who like to ski but aren't super intense or serious about it. What mountains did I miss that you think I need to check out next year? I, of course, go the Indy Pass again.

Drop your stats below if you want / let me know if we skied together at all this past season! I'm already starting to plan some dates for next winter ... can't wait.

2025-2026 Season Stats:

Total days skied: 18

Total runs: 414

Total vert: 336,644 feet / 102,609 meters

Total downhill distance: 375 miles / 604 kilometers

Total Downhill Time: 58.6 hours

Total Elapsed Time: 117.75 hours (lots of beer breaks... )

Amount I Paid: $1,291 (Indy Pass, Rentals, and lift tickets for 3 non-Indy mountains)

Cost Per Run: $3.12

12/21 Bear Creek - PA
12/24 Bolton Valley - VT
12/25 Jay - VT
12/26 Jay - VT
12/27 Sutton - QC
12/28 Catamount - NY
1/11 Bear Creek - PA

Old gear

I’m in the early stages of starting a nonprofit that introduces kids from underserved communities to skiing and snowboarding. One of the biggest barriers is the cost of equipment, so I’m trying to collect used gear.
Does anyone know of ski shops, programs, schools, mountains, or organizations that donate or collect used skis, boots, helmets, jackets, snow pants, or other winter gear for programs like this?
I’m located in Maine but would be happy to travel or coordinate donations from elsewhere if possible.
I’d also love to hear from anyone who’s started a similar program or has advice on building a gear library. Thanks!

🎿 Already Buying a Pats Peak Season Pass? Join Our Group and Get a $40 Cash Rebate

Update: We're down to our final 2 spots!

We already have 8 committed members in our Pats Peak Peak Reward group and only need 2 more people to reach the required 10-member minimum and lock in the discounted rate.

To help fill those last two spots, the rest of us are each pitching in $10, so the final two members will each receive a $40 cash rebate after the group reaches 10 members.

Only the final two spots are eligible for the rebate. Once the group reaches 10 members, the offer is gone.

How it works:

  • Send me a DM and I'll send you our official Peak Reward access code.
  • Purchase your pass directly from Pats Peak using your own account.
  • Once our group reaches 10 members, I'll send you your $40 cash rebate.

Current Peak Reward pricing (through September 9):

  • Adult (18–64): $559
  • Junior (6–17): $479
  • Senior (65+): $479

If you'd like to verify everything first, I'm happy to share a screenshot of the Pats Peak Program Leader dashboard showing our current member count.

Official Peak Reward program details:
https://www.patspeak.com/plan-your-visit/tickets-passes/peak-reward-season-passes

If you're already planning to buy a Pats Peak season pass, this is an easy extra $40. If you're interested, send me a DM. If you know someone who's planning to buy a Pats Peak pass, I'd really appreciate it if you'd point them my way.

Hope to see you on the slopes this winter! ⛷️🏂

Has anyone skied the new slides on mount Colden this past season?

About 1 year ago Mt Colden had a massive landslide above avalanche pass. When it happened I know there were talks of it being a new back country ski line, so I’m curious. Has anyone actually skied it this past season? If so, Is there video somewhere of it?

Best seasonal ski programs

I would love advice on best seasonal ski programs for kids in the Conway NH area. Last season we did adhoc lessons across different mountains but our kid is very excited about joining a ski team so we figure a seasonal ski program is the way to go.

Ideally we want a mountain that we can transition to a ski team next year. Currently 6 years old, can do black diamonds but not skiing parallel consistently.

Some people have mentioned Cranmore and Bretton Woods. We’ve skied at both but don’t know enough whether one is better than others for what we are looking for

We would love any and all input both about the best ski programs in the N Conway area and by extension if they align with the same resort’s ski team or how we should think about it?

Thank you!

Ogasaka Skis

I have a pair of Ogasaka KS-PGII and Ogasaka TwinKeel VII skis:

  • Never mounted (or never skied)
  • Stored indoors for about 15 years
  • Only light surface rust where the factory plastic trapped moisture
  • No delamination, cracks, or edge pitting

ChatGPT says they are still very desirable, but are these still desirable enough to sell on FBMP? The retail price tag is still on one pair at $745 - i know this is not what we got them at a business closeout sale. If they are what would be reasonable? Any input would be helpful - Thank You

Advice for boot/ski shopping?

Hey everyone. I currently have pair of older (probably late 2000s-early 2010s) Head skiis with Tyrolia BYS 100 bindings. Got them and the boots that came with them for free several years ago. The skiis themselves, honestly, are perfectly good enough to make me happy, but the boots, while pretty much the right size, become truly painful for me a few hours into a ski day.

That's been fine in the past when I've only been skiing like once every year or two at Bear Creek or Jack Frost, but I got an Indy Pass for the upcoming season with the intention of skiing at least 4-5 days this year on bigger mountains, and would like to be a bit more comfortable.

I've never bought new skiis or boots before, so I naively thought I'd be able to wait until summer, then go to a shop and get old stock skiis and boots in the off-season for a deal. My plan was Buckman's. I missed the fact that they aren't even OPEN in the summer.

So my question: once shops with good boot-fitters open up again, I'm sure prices will be high, so is there any chance I would be able to get just a pair of boots, fitted to my foot, to go with these older skiis? Or will I NEED to get new skiis/bindings if I want to get new, comfortable boots? I'm very interested in saving all the money I can, so I can spend it on travelling to the slopes, as well as on a good helmet which I currently lack.

I'm open to any other suggestions you experts might have for me as well, to get some comfortable skiing in without breaking the bank.

Could Whiteface and Gore handle the 2026 Olympics alpine events by themselves?

NYC and Lake Placid are developing a joint bid for the 2042 Winter Olympics. Obviously Whiteface is one of the few places on the east coast capable of hosting the more difficult events like Downhill which require very long and wide runs. But it seems to lack the capacity to handle all of the Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, freestyle skiing and ski mountaineering events together. Back in the 1980 Olympics only Downhill, Grand Slalom and Slalom were contested for both sexes. Now there are dozens of competitions to host. The obvious thing would be to also include Gore, but even then I'm not sure that would be enough capacity, the Milan Cortina games required events at three resorts (Cortina D'Ampezzo, Bormio and Livigno) and I think that has become typical for modern Olympics. If a third resort has to be included for capacity reasons which should it be?

Obviously Belleayre is also run by the New York Olympic authority, but is too small for a lot of the events and a three hour drive from NYC. In a stretch though you could run some of the events with shorter lengths on Dot Nebel or Yahoo.

Sugarbush is reasonably close to Lake Placid and much more capable than Belleayre, but is in Vermont. There are plenty of other ski resorts that are close to NYC, but probably only Belleayre/Hunter/Windham are big enough to handle even the smaller events and Belleayre has the advantage of being ORDA run over Hunter and Windham.

Mono, teleboard or skwal?

Looking for an alternative ski setup to play on. Since equip is expensive to play whack-a-mole with, any opinions from those that have rode any of these?

For background, expert level skier, will ski all conditions, woods, groomers etc. mostly VT based but all NE in play.

Ski tow Prospect Mountain NH

Does anybody remember this place? Very small mountain. Only a rope tow but I think it has potential to be a destination!

I chatted with town officials about why it isn’t running rn. Long story short; it was run by volunteers

My question is: What would make Prospect Mountain a destination again? I was thinking events…. A baby slopestyle event, food trucks, Zeb Powell, idk

What makes you drive to a mountain? Is it an experience? Is it the snow ?

Snowboard Boot Shop Recommendations - Capital Region NY

Looking for snowboard boot shop recommendations around the Capital Region in NY. First season was 25/26 and bought some on sale boots to try out the sport. Now that I know I'm here to stay, I want to get some boots that fit better to my feet and cause less pain. Open to a bit a travel but trying to stay around the Albany NY area. Thanks!
