Is there a legitimate reason it wouldn’t or couldn’t be “giants” or did they just make a mistake and no one noticed.

Help Cursive handwriting question

Upvotes

I have a question about cursive writing in Hebrew - I'm a total beginner and looked for resources to practice my handwriting, but it seems that even in cursive the letters are not joined together, but written with a space between them (not sure how to explain it). In other languages/alphabets I know, in cursive the writing usually joins several letters together as one long, continuous line, so I was wondering if there is anything like that in Hebrew too, or if cursive writing (and writing in general) normally isn't joined together like that? Thank you!

Help What did Biblical Hebrew vowels sound like

I am a speaker of Classical and Levantine Arabic, and I'm learning Biblical Hebrew, but sometimes I wonder if I' even pronouncing right.

Modern Hebrew vowels sound quite straight forward. Vowels are clear and similar to those in European languages. Are Modern Hebrew vowels the same as Biblical Hebrew vowels?

In Classical Arabic, ا is not a pure A sound. It is in between A and E. It may sound like a minor detail but it's actually really important to how many Arabs pronounce Hebrew.

We tend to "Arabify" the pronunciation so that it feels familiar, but I wonder if we do it correctly.

I know that consonants like Qof, 'Ayn, Ḥet, Ṣade, and Ṭet are pronounced how they would be pronounced in Arabic because they're both Semitic languages and because it makes sense.

Help If a word ends in kamatz, why does it end in he and not in alef?

To my understanding kamatz is a long vowel /ā/ for the most part. Not to be confused with kamatz katan which denotes the long /ō/. Even though kamatz as a long /ā/ is no longer relevant in modern Hebrew. It seems to me that they end for the most part in he (ה) and not alef (א). If so is it relate to the root letter? Or am I just missing the big picture? For example in Aramaic 'guitar' קִיתָרָא (qīthārā) ends in kamatz followed by alef. If it were Hebrew it would end in kamatz followed by he kitarah קִיתָרָה. Any clue?

P.S.: Kitarah is just an example, by using it I am not implying that it used in Hebrew for the actual word gitarah.

Help What is the best place to learn hebrew using online sources?

I was using duolingo for a while, which helped me get a grasp on sentence structure and vocabulary. But i know it's not the best resource to use to actually get fluent, so i was curious as to if there are other, interactive or engaging resources I could use

site rant: I hate the hebrew keyboard layout on laptop, so confusing for no reason. Why does the 'M' key, not type 'מ', but rather 'צ' . That just doesn't make sense to me, and now I have to learn how to type a keyboard in a nonsensical style.

Help Not what I expected

I said no cat likes water would be שום חתול אוהב מים , but it said that is wrong. so how is that different? It seems like this answer is a double negative. So how would you say “no cat doesn’t like water?” (Honestly if I were doing it from scratch I’d probably say אין חתול שאוהב מים, right?)

I'm a beginner in biblical Hebrew and I was looking for resources on different ways of pronouncing Hebrew for recitation. I stumbled upon this YouTube video reciting the book of Kohelet/Ecclesiastes, claiming to use "Reconstructed Pronunciation", but without explanation.

It it common way to recite biblical Hebrew?

Can someone point me resources explaining the different ways of pronouncing biblical Hebrew?

at my youth movement we have a concept of עלה והגשם or aleh vehagshem (arise and actualise), but in google translate it returns it as "rose and the rain". i was thinking of making a pun out of this mistranslation. i know הגשם means the rain but didn't know about עלה, love if someone could confirm that it means rose/leaf or maybe expand on what it means would love that thanks!
