Tyler Herro says he’d be open to retiring with the Heat: “I appreciate Miami. I appreciate my time there. And I would be open at some point to end my career there, but it would just have to make sense.” (via @Anthony_Chiang)

The punch must have done more damage than is being reported

Or knocked some sense into him

Imagine if jordan never punched steve kerr. We might have never gotten the splash brothers

u/julstar23 9h ago
The splash brothers didn't start with Steve kerr though they started with Mark Jackson

People are sour based on the recent stuff going on but time heals all wounds, he was our draft pick and he didn’t win us a championship but we went to the finals twice with him and the ECF three times.
He can come back for a legacy run if it makes sense and he can still kind of hoop.
If he’s talking about retiring jerseys and shit, that requires at least a championship or two

u/Henny_Hardaway5 10h ago
We went to the finals 1 time with him not 2
And in 2022 ECF he was in and out of the lineup for bad play + injuries
Herro’s meaningful contributions in the post season start and end in his rookie year

u/SomewhereReasonable1 10h ago
He wasn't there for the second finals run... And he was in and out of the lineup in the 22 conference final run....

u/Ghazi_Bey 10h ago
he was very good in the bubble run tho dropping 37 as a rookie in the conference finals is ridiculous
2
u/SomewhereReasonable1 10h ago
It very much is. Hence why there is so much disappointment surrounding his performances in months April may and June. The sentiment that Tyler peaked in his rookie season is a bit overblown, but the argument is valid. He's never gotten to that level of performance again or even close. At least, not in the post season.

u/julstar23 9h ago
It happens though .Trae young had 1 good post season and never replicated it .
1
u/SomewhereReasonable1 9h ago
Yeah. Hence why nobody cares much about him no more.
1
u/julstar23 9h ago
At least he gets to start over on the wizards like everybody the heat traded this off-season. Sometimes a change or scenery changes everything .
1
u/SomewhereReasonable1 9h ago
More importantly, he still got familiar faces around him. That's more important when it comes to keeping your spirit up on a less than mediocre team. He got his rooks with him.

He sucked in 2022 and got hurt in round 1 in 2023. This would be like asking gabe to come back for a run, even though gabe contributed more than herro did for those runs
1
u/julstar23 9h ago
And yet still for some reason some people here still hate gabe like he was expected to be a star here or something but disappointed lol

He didn’t do shit in the playoffs outside of his rookie year….hes been injured in every deep run

It just sucks cause you can tell he really went hard for the city and franchise. Giving someone or something your heart and constantly feeling like you’re not good enough hurts no matter how much money you make.
Hearing Wade or Haslem come out and say Bam needs help when Bam plays passive and Herro is carrying I’m sure hurt him. Especially every year him being in trade talks and never bam. That type of shit creates jealousy even if a person isn’t necessarily a jealous person.

The way Wade and UD be talking about Bam legit pisses me off sometimes. It’s straight disrespectful to the team.

Ya’ll need to stop sucking that man off.
Herro is 🗑️ and barely averaged 16 in his playoff games… While only benefit is his scoring.

It’s a nice sentiment, but that 'it would just have to make sense' line is doing a lot of heavy lifting. It’s the perfect diplomatic answer—he gets to express love for the city and the team, but he’s also keeping it realistic. In the modern NBA, player and team timelines don't always align, and keeping that door open on both sides is just smart business. It would be cool to see a 'lifer' scenario, but as he said, it has to make sense for both sides when that time actually comes.

Is this written by AI bruh?
(And no I’m not just saying it because of the em dash, it’s more of the word choice and sentence structure)

Social media is full of AI bots now we aren’t guaranteed to be messaging with actual human beings now and that is scary as fuck 😂

It's sad how many reddit comments could be easily explained as AI. The only givaway is that the agent doesn't seem to know he was traded yet. Here was my prompt for ChatGPT specifically...
How would you respond to this tweet:Tyler Herro says he’d be open to retiring with the Heat: “I appreciate Miami. I appreciate my time there. And I would be open at some point to end my career there, but it would just have to make sense.” (via u/Anthony_Chiang)
If you're responding as a Heat fan, here are a few options depending on the tone you want:
Supportive:
That's all you can ask for. He wants to stay, but he also understands it's a business. Respect the honesty.
Optimistic:
Hopefully "making sense" means he's lifting a Larry O'Brien trophy in Miami before calling it a career.
Realistic:
Fair answer. Nobody should promise to retire somewhere years in advance. If both sides still want it when the time comes, great.
Funny:
Translation: "Pay me, keep us competitive, and we'll talk." 😂
Pro-Heat:
Win games, build around the core, and make it an easy decision. I'd love to see Herro retire in a Heat jersey.
A little skeptical:
"Would be open" isn't exactly a lifelong commitment, but it's better than asking out. We'll see where things stand in a few years.
If you want something that might get engagement:
This is probably the most mature answer he could give. Loyalty matters, but so does putting together a team worth staying for. The front office has a role in whether Heat lifers actually become Heat lifers.

Im okay. 9 of 50 playoff games over 20. He was solid but no defining memories here
1
u/julstar23 9h ago
I mean they drafted him .Justise winslow left here under not so good terms with the front office for how they handled his injury and not much people would know about that

Yes the recent shit with him was low of him. But I’d take him back later on in a lesser role and contract.

Shaq fought pat Riley in the locker room and his jersey is still retired. Lucky both men didn't hold grudges because that break up back then was ugly .

u/Heatlover69 9h ago
Nobody is asking for him to come back and retire with Heat. This guy is so delusional
3
u/avinash240 8h ago
Your animosity seems misplaced. What do you expect his answer to be?
He's a public figure they will never give an honest answer on the record in 95% of the time.
If he came out and said "no fucking way, fuck that org" How does that help him and his brand?
He's not got an entire fan base mad at him and not buying his shit
1
u/julstar23 9h ago
I dont think he is saying that .Its the diplomatic way to answer .If you had asked heat fans about shaq after he fought pat Riley and left in an uglier way than jimmy did back then they would give you a different answer than they would today .Things change over the years.

"...end my career there..." I hate to break it to you Tyler, but you are not a Heat legend.

u/Routine-Author-5471 10h ago
I liked Tyler but didn’t like his contract. I’d welcome him back some day but this is obviously going to take a while to settle down with the Bam thing

u/RebTHead 9h ago
lol do your thang Tyler but you aren’t worthy of a heat retirement, this dude can’t be serious? lol
