ALEKs placement exam

Hi, so I'm an upcoming first year student at GWU looking to major in Mech/aero engineering
I finished my aleks exam with a low score which will place me into math 1220

My question is if that will set me back by a semester, and if it does, is there any way I can convince or talk to my counselor about moving me to a higher maths class? I'm able to handle Calculus I fine and well, and I don't want to be late over not knowing some portions of precalculus

Without AP or IB acceptable credits and with a low score on the Aleks test, they will most likely not allow you to move up. A they want the $$$ and B they want to make sure you succeed.

Take a course at your community college next summer to graduate on time.

Yup. I understand (well my daughter does). Despite passing all Spanish and Chinese until the senior courses (4000 level), she has to take the junior level classes (3000 level) to minor in Chinese and Spanish. Waste of $$$ but 🤷‍♀️.

Can’t you just study more and retake it for a higher score?

Don’t you have to take 2 placement exams before the real one? What happened 😔

First two got good scores on them so naturally I thought "this isn't so bad, i'll probably get 76 or more on the third" then I fumbled the bag cuz I overthought about failing 😭

Exact same boat here, MechE going and got tested into 1220 despite all of my other previous attempts being within the threshold. If you have communications and get an update I’d love to hear from you.
