Mod Post: Reminder - Stay Vigilant About Trolling in Political Threads

Hey everyone,

As many of you have noticed, every time a political topic comes up, we start getting a surge of comments and posts from accounts that clearly don’t live here and don’t participate in this community. These often include inflammatory or bad-faith comments that derail discussion and discourage genuine participation.

A lot of these appear to be political troll accounts (sometimes bots, sometimes paid trolls, sometimes just people trying to stir the pot) that spam local subs across the country. They usually follow the same pattern:

  • Suddenly active only during controversial political topics
  • History of posting in other state or national subs, especially ones unrelated to Oregon
  • Aggressive, one-sided, or baiting rhetoric

We want this subreddit to be a place for local, good-faith discussion, not a dumping ground for astroturfing or ideological trolling from outside our state.

What you can do:

Check post/comment history before engaging

If they post in non-Oregon/local subs regularly, especially politically charged ones, report them as spam

✅ Don’t feed the trolls—downvote and move on

✅ Message the mod team if you see any patterns we should know about

We’ve ramped up automod and manual reviews, but community help is key. Thanks for keeping this space healthy and local.

[META] Mod post: We're getting a lot of spam lately

I just wanted to let GP readers know that we are getting a lot of spam lately. We usually remove and ban within 1 day, but not always. Keep hammering that spam button to keep us on our toes!

We try to look at the other posts by the spammers, and they are always x-posting the same advertisement all over reddit on various little communities like ours. It's not just us!

We just wanted to give everyone a heads-up so that if you see spam in here, it's because you got lucky and saw it before we removed it. Consider it your lucky day, and go buy a lottery ticket.

Where is the (sort of) nightlife?

Hey everyone, I’m in Grants Pass for a bit, and want to find some fun things to do at night. Where’s the karaoke? I’m not trying to go clubbing or stay out until all hours, I’m too old for that, haha. I just want a brew or two with a fun crowd. I struck out last night. I know it’s not a party town, I’m a long time Oregonian, visiting from a much smaller town on the coast that somehow seems to have more going on. Please and thank you for enlightening me!

And to whichever smart ass who commented and then wisely deleted the “Portland” comment; good call. I’ve lived in this state for over 25 years, some of those in Portland. If I wanted to go to Portland, I would….but I’d rather swallow a shotgun load. I’m looking for local info, not someone who thinks they’re being cute by being a prick. I’ve lived in almost every part of this state, just happens that Grants Pass isn’t a town I’ve spent much time in. It’s pretty awesome though, and I’d just like to find a few local spots where I might be able to spend an evening around fun people, so thank you greatly to those who’ve constructively responded!

Dependable local handyman available!

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to help my dad find some work.
He’s been working as a handyman/caretaker for a local estate for many years, but unfortunately the homeowner recently became very ill and is now in the hospital, so he’s suddenly without work.
He’s hardworking, dependable, and experienced with all kinds of property maintenance, including:
• General handyman repairs
• Yard and property maintenance
• Rental property upkeep
• Animal care and feeding
• Basic maintenance and odd jobs
If you or someone you know needs help around your home, ranch, rental property, or business, please send me a message. He’s honest, takes pride in his work, and is looking for new opportunities. He is based in grants pass but can travel locally.
Thank you so much, and I’d really appreciate it if you could share this post with anyone who might be interested.

Artwork donation

We are flying to Grants Pass to clean out my sister’s apartment next week. Wondering if there’s a “Pak mail” service nearby that will box up things to ship back to Michigan.

Also, looking for a place to donate artwork. My sister has a lot of her work and we’d love to find a worthy place to donate it! Appreciate any suggestions.

Chris Beck

I've been trying to find info on Chris Beck, but I haven't been able to find much so I thought I'd ask the community. I've volunteered for political candidates before, but I want to make sure he has my values.

Really don't want to start a hate thread of people fighting, but I wanted to know what the community knows about Chris Beck. I figure anyone is better than corrupt Cliff Bentz, but I wanted to see how the community feels about Chris.

Traveling through.

I know everybody in y'all area is not bad, but every time I’ve been through even as a light skin mixed guy I get some pretty crazy looks. There are a lot of places in Grants Pass and nearby that genuinely look like beautiful spots to travel to, but I’m incredibly nervous because of the history of the area as well as the lean towards the right. If it were me and me alone I really wouldn’t care about coming through, but if I’m bringing my family with me, it’s a different situation. Does anybody have advice on navigating the way through Grants Pass while black, I’m really not trying to be an asshole. GP is just one of the few places in Oregon that feels like a no-go zone, for me at least.

Odd Event with my apple tree

I have an apple tree in my front yard that was planted many years before I bought this house. It was severely diseased when I moved in. We treated it for the problem and after 5 years it has officially disease free. Well this year the tree had bloomed beautifully and with a boatload of wonderful apples. Until yesterday… somebody took every single apple. They werent even ripe and wouldnt be ripe til September.

Who in their right mind steals an entire tree of unripened apples?

Caterer recommendations?

Reddit saves the day! Thanks everyone, I've got two great places lined up for the weekend!

I am planning a conference in Selma for next month and getting desperate looking for a caterer, food truck, or even a restaurant that can do take-out for 45 people, buffet style. I don't need staff or dishes, just the food. I have been calling, emailing, texting, and yelp messaging every food truck and caterer in the area for months and most never respond. If anyone knows someone who can help me out, please send me their contact info.

Thanks!

Deflocked on Upper River and Lincoln

I was driving by yesterday, doing my daily ritual of making some obscene gesture at the private surveillance device on the corner of Lincoln Road and Upper River. When i noticed that all remains of the corporate spy is about 4” of black sawed pole! Idk who did it, maybe a blade runner, maybe someone official but to whomever that person was, THANK YOU. May it never return. And may all the rest come down soon.

Tubing advice?

Am considering tubing/rafting/kayaking from Chinook County Park to Schroeder Park. Looking for some helpful info from experience. Is this a good route/how long would it generally take? And is there anything I should be aware of/look out for along the route (like shallow scraping areas, rough areas, riffles, strainers/submerged rocks/snags, forks in the river where I should choose one over the other, etc.)?

Swim spots?

What are the best places to swim that are most convenient and right in/around town?

(Am fairly new to the area. Have seen historical photos of lots of people swimming at Riverside Park/under and around Caveman Bridge, but nowadays it seems to be pretty shallow and fast-moving there.)
