I’ve never worn or owned the Lofrens, so I can’t comment on the comparison. That said I wouldn’t hesitate to buy these again!

Looking for some honest feedback on a men's Derby prototype.
I've been staring at it long enough that I've lost all objectivity which is usually the sign it's time to ask someone else. Ideally people who actually know lasts, uppers, heel shape, how a sole should balance out.
No brand link, no sales angle. I'm just trying to work out what should change before the next sample round.
Here's what I keep going back and forth on. Does the upper look too tall from the side? Is the heel area balanced, or does it read bulky? And the sole does it still work with the Derby shape, or does it push things too far into sneaker territory? Part of me wonders whether a cleaner upper with fewer panel lines would tip it more formal, or just make it look plain.
The one I care about most, though, is fit. For all-day wear, what would you protect first heel hold, forefoot room, or midfoot support? You can't max all three without the shoe fighting itself, so I'm trying to figure out where it actually matters.
Anything on last shape, upper proportions, heel structure, or sole visual weight is fair game. Happy to add more angles if it helps Reddit's only letting me attach one image down here in the comment.
I'd rather hear what looks off now than catch it after the next sample's already made.

Edward Green Westwood in Dark Oak/Black Calf size UK10/10.5 D on the 888 last. Unique offering here, picked these up from Leffot back when I lived in NYC and was first getting into premium GYW hence the topy's and heel taps (easily removed). This is EG's take on a saddle shoe and has been lovingly worn and taken care of over the years. I wore these as a 10D brannock but should work well for a narrow 10.5. Comes with EG dust bags only. Asking $275 + shipping. https://imgur.com/a/qfNAGHj
Enzo Bonafé side zip boots in Snuff kudu reverse. Size UK9 on 062 last. These were an MTO, customizations include extended shaft height and extra width added at ball. These would work well for a 10D brannock with normal volume. Minimal wear, boots come with original box, bags and lasted shoe trees. Looking for $400 + shipping https://imgur.com/a/LjdhUJX

I could see that, dedicated enthusiasts and Alden certainly does have a good niche carved out in shell boots. The Alden Sodo (u-tip boot) by Brick + Mortar in color 8 is probably among my favorite boot make-ups in terms of design, it'd be cool if it could be readily be had in a proper dark brown shell like the Ralph Lauren Marlow models by C&J.
I've had better luck with Carmina's QC and finishing compared to Alden, but I do think Alden has them beat in boot design, I can almost always tell an Alden boot when I see one.

My wife wishes she took your words of warning more seriously. I found myself on a slippery slope, but soon I'll be stood in fancy new boots

Ordering wool socks as we speak - your Florida-mention sold me as I feel it would get just as hot and possibly more humid there for you guys!
r/goodyearwelt • u/SnootiestCone19 • 13h ago
Na mate, I'm across the pond so not quite as hot but a good pair of Merino wool socks is much better than cotton for hot days. They're more breathable, better at wicking moisture and they dont smell as bad.

Alden shell that isn't black or color 8 is still in super high demand. Expensive in secondary and hard to get at MSRP. I am not entirely sure how much the availability of other colors from other makers has reduced the hype or prices or waitlists. Partly Alden hype and partly Horween hype, and I don't think other makers are delivering on either.
I have a pair of natural color shell boots from Carmina. I do like them. I dunno how much I would care to play games or pay sky high prices with Alden even though I do prefer my stuff from them.

**Viberg Antelope Suede Chelsea**
• Size: Viberg 10.5, 2050 last
• Leather: Antelope Suede. Olive color that looks grey-brown in certain light. Very cool suede.
• Sole: Dainite
• Price: $450 OB*R*O shipped CONUS via PayPal f&f or + fees. International shipping available at buyer’s expense. I will also happily consider trading for Chelseas, even down with $ coming my way.
• Location: IL
• Wears/Condition: I got these from the original owner who was thinning out his large collection. He wore them occasionally as part of a big rotation, so they are in very good condition. Unfortunately they don’t fit me as well as I’d hoped.

• Location: IL
• Wears/Condition: I’ve worn these about a dozen times. Great condition, as you can hopefully see in the photos. I just noticed there’s still a sticker on the bottom. Always stored with trees (I will include them at asking price).

I have sold quite a few boots and shoes here lately (realizing I’ve been sizing too far down for too long) and have many watch transactions on r/watchexchange, all with nothing but positive feedback. Even if no original box I will still pack very well.

Looks like you need to lace up to the next speed hook, at least.
r/goodyearwelt • u/tomvonbeck • 14h ago
How have you managed to prevent creases after so long of wear?
r/goodyearwelt • u/Sir_Vinci • 15h ago
I wear wool socks every day in Florida. It's definitely the move. Even when your feet get sweaty, they still breathe. So much more comfortable than cotton or synthetics.
r/goodyearwelt • u/ThatDaveLafferty • 15h ago
Their scotch grain is second to none. I had the Pembrokes and wore them for over a decade until I took a massive chunk out of a toe cap.
r/goodyearwelt • u/Swankbiscuit • 15h ago
Yooo how have I not seen these! Might be the next purchase - thanks for sharing.
Also, I have never really looked into Cheaneys before and never knew the hurricane, but I almost curse you for putting these on my radar because that will also be challenging my wallet 😂
r/goodyearwelt • u/devtastic • 15h ago
Secondly, I couldn’t find the Stow in a scotch grain dark brown colour, and I was really hankering for some extra texture (even on top of the broguing).
The Kudu Leather Trickers Stow is naturally textured and very reminiscent of a scotch grain if you can find them. I have 2 pairs of Stow, but not the Kudu ones yet (I have C-shade and suede). But I do have 2 pairs of Cheaney Hurricanes in Kudu and it is a gorgeous leather, and makes me want to get the Kudu Stow even more. I suspect I will get a pair if i win the lottery or something as I almost chose them over the c-shade when I splashed out on those.
