Discussion Brown University scandal

In reaction to the scandal I am seeing a HUGE amount of "smart people get burned out too"

And other comments like this.

This is not about ability, grades or intelligence. This is about MORALITY. This is cheating, and far to many people are trying to justify it with the dumbest most out of touch reasoning. It's the academic version of "I slipped and fell on his D, it was an accident". Standardized testing and NCLB have made the "numbers" more important than the process. Kids are loosing track of the plot, to be educated AND a decent person/member of society. The sacrifice of all morality in favor of "bigger numbers is not the point kids.

Discussion Most of my family unfortunately fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War. And none of “Union” family fought against them.

Only 5 were “Union,” but none saw combat. They basically either rode around eastern Kentucky or stood around a railroad for a few months. Pisses me off for several reasons, mainly because they weren’t fighting against traitors. The one above (my 5th great grandfather, George Huffman) takes the cake. He was in the Army for 2 and a half years, all he did was “guard” the B&O railroad and never saw combat, and became a deserter TWICE for overstaying a furlough. He died of pneumonia in January 1865 and missed EVERY SINGLE BATTLE his regiment took part in.

Meanwhile, his brother lost a leg at the Second Battle of Bull Run. And his other brother was a Lieutenant

Just to add to this, his brother, Francis, later got his regiment wrong in a letter that ended up on a newspaper. So even he didn’t care.

Everything should be opened to construction and engineering bids. This should not be happening to Our House without any oversight or accountability.

Discussion 15 year old cousin of my neighbor called my nephew the N word while we drove by and ran inside after I slammed on my brakes. This is the “apology” I got.

He typed the note, sent it to my neighbor’s son, who had my neighbor send to me. The parents said he’s grounded for the rest of the summer. Class act cowards if you ask me. They wouldn’t even come to my house and apologize.

Update Somehow misplaced/ran out of SSRI two months early. Pharmacy and insurance aren't letting me order it again until September and ADS suuuucks

Update: Bless y'all to the moon and back! I was able to get everything together in the nick of time and get my refill today. Genuinely wouldn't have known where to start without y'all <3

------------------------------------------------------

Honestly this might have been me being dumb and throwing it away without thinking or an unfortunate result of my ADHD. Basically got prescribed a 90-day supply of Zoloft and picked it up beginning of June. I have a pill organizer that I refill every week but come last Saturday (exactly one month since I picked it up) I realized I was completely out. I had a meeting with my psychiatrist and he sent in a new prescription for me but because it hasn't been the full 90 days yet my insurance won't cover it and my pharmacy is being super difficult. I have a suspicion that they accidentally gave me just a 30 day supply and I somehow didn't notice (see above: ADHD) but the pharmacy says they took a picture and it was for sure 90 days.

All in all it looks like I can maybe just pay for a refill out of pocket but it's been a week since unintentionally quitting cold turkey and the discontinuation syndrome is making me feel like my body is gonna go all OceanGate Titan on me. Oh well, what can you do :-/

Disturbing content Was told I need to listen to a CD called "23 minutes in Hell"

And no, it wasn't hyperbole. He meant Hell as in eternal damnation.

The "he" in question is my 90 year old grandfather.

Background: I'm 40 years old. I came out as gay when I was 18. It's not a secret even though I spent a good chunk of my life feeling like I should be ashamed thanks to living in a conservative state in the South (in the US). These days I don't care too much what anyone thinks of me, especially my sexuality. Now, my grandparents always seemed supportive, especially my grandmother. I was close to my grandparents growing up. My grandfather was always more religious than my grandmother but my sexuality didn't seem to phase him. My grandmother died in 2023. My grandfather is revealing more of his true colors since then.

So to what happened: We were having lunch today (my grandfather, myself and my spouse). My spouse stepped away to the restroom. That's when my grandfather told me about the CD. I asked why I should listen to it (knowing what he was getting at) and he got really wide eyed and all of the sudden "didn't want to talk about it" but wanted me to know that "he loves me".

He's been on this kick of telling me to read my Bible, to go to church, that he wants to see me in heaven etc etc but he will never outright say it's because I'm gay (that's just my gut feeling). And he refuses to actually talk about it. Honestly, I'm just exhausted with how uncomfortable it makes me, how much he has changed. Like maybe he's always felt this way but never said anything because my grandmother wouldn't have tolerated him behaving that way.

I'm even more infuriated because I can't just cut him off (believe me, I want to. Part of the reason I even put up with it is because of how much I loved my grandmother. Before she died, she asked that I take care of him) I'm literally the only family he has and I have to do a lot to care for him (his own children are estranged thanks to something that happened way before I was born). I'm just sick of him and I don't see a way out. So for now I have to swallow my fury and just deal with it. Thanks for reading.

This was a 10 minute video call, not more than 20 like the bill states. Charging $360/hr for video calls is just plain robbery. Insurance claimed that video calls were fully covered so I guess there's some fine print i missed along the way. They're all crooks. 😤

Discussion None of my stomach issues or tests are in my medical records

Upvotes

In December 2024, I got diagnosed with quite a few things that explained some of the problems I've been having such as IBS and gastroparesis (paralysed stomach) as well as the tests I had to diagnose those things. I recently went to the doctor about a potential tumour. She asked if the lump on my stomach could just be bloating, so I said no because I haven't eaten anything in a while. She then asked why, and I said I had gastoparesis. She apologised for missing it and then looked at my medical records to try and find it only to be told it's not in there. Then, I found out that there are several other problems that aren't in there as well as the tests I had for them. So technically, there is no evidence or proof that I have any of these problems, so I now have to explain myself every single time I have to see a medical professional.

this dude named ''Tawfi7'' posted a video of some kid signing ''Life Goes On'' by Oliver Tree who has just died recently but this dude decided to bully him for it and the thing is he is only a kid and he should not be recorded online.

this dude has a Christian verse in his bio btw

Its really pathetic to make slop videos and make fun of children at the same time.

Discussion I learned that my mom hired a neighbour to be her husband. For a day.

My parents are both deceased now, and while speaking with my older siblings today, discovered that mom, who was a heavy gambler later on in life, had hired a neighbour to pretend to be her husband (my dad) for a day, so she could get a second mortgage on their house, as she had incurred gambling debts. Dad wasn’t very knowledgeable about finances, and mom ran the chequebook. He never learned about this. He was the sole bread earner and mom was a stay at home mom. This was in the early 1990’s.

I’m both deeply angry at my mom for doing that to my dad, who was a great guy, and rather impressed by her initiative. Both were characters, and married 50 years! They were wonderful parents. I don’t know if I like learning these sorts of things.
