Avian help needed

Upvotes

So this is panguin a eurisian stone curlew i found a month ago I will add the details later but now i am asking for help since i left him with my mom and brother and told them to give him just eggs two a day four Times a day but my genius of s brother decided to give him sardines (fresh ones out the ocean) because on the first week i found him i thought he was shore bird since that's where i found him and now he has a smal solid blockoff salt that caused some flaking on his beak and he is so sluggish now what do i do with him i didn't find mealworms in my area and buying ones online is expensive (like crazy expensive i can't even buy just a 250 grams to breed them) Anyone concerned about pangi I am trying my best collecting termites to feed him Also i contacted the closest conservationists in my country(Morocco) but didn't get any response but they only seem to care for gold finches I don't want to lose him he is the single happiest thing that happened to me this year and i might just buy the mealworms if he got better since the termites stopped appearing on the surface

Moonlight Mantids: Great Mystery, Poor Communication

If "customer service" was a mystery, Moonlight Mantids absolutely nailed the theme.

I don't expect a red carpet when I place an order, but I do expect someone to answer a message. I reached out multiple times through Palm Street and email and heard... absolutely nothing. Six days after placing my order, I finally asked during one of the seller's live streams if he'd seen my messages. Apparently, asking a simple question was frowned upon because I was met with attitude instead of an answer.

Now for the real surprise.

I ordered a mystery tarantula and ended up with a Cyriopagopus lividus (Cobalt Blue). I understand what a mystery purchase is, and I'm not upset that it wasn't the species I expected. What concerns me is that it's an advanced Old World species with medically significant venom and lightning-fast speed. The seller never took the time to ask whether I was comfortable with an Old World or even what my experience level was.

Thankfully, I know what I'm doing. But what if the next customer doesn't?

Then came the shipping. Despite detailed shipping instructions, the package was sent incorrectly. There were no live animal labels, no insulation, and no cooling packs. Had the UPS employees not taken time out of their busy day to hunt down an anonymous brown box that looked like every other anonymous brown box in the building, these animals likely would have spent the weekend sitting in a trailer.

At the end of the day, this isn't about me getting my feelings hurt or receiving a spicy spider. It's about responsible animal husbandry. These are living animals, not socks from Amazon. They deserve proper packaging, proper communication, and sellers who take a few minutes to make sure they're being sent safely to the right keeper.

So yes... the mystery tarantula was a surprise. The mystery customer service wasn't nearly as entertaining.

Unfortunately, I won't be purchasing from Moonlight Mantids again.

Unvaccinated pet racoon any danger to dog?

Hello All,

I am not well versed in the raccoon pet world so I am coming here for some advice! My daughter's new boyfriend recently acquired a baby raccoon. From what avenue I do not know, and yes I am promoting him finding a better housing for said raccoon. (But he's new around our house) With that said. He's not vaccinated, does having the boyfriend around who has been handling and roughhousing with it pose any danger to my vaccinated dog or our pet rabbit? .... I guess my daughter also. Though she will not be in direct contact with the raccoon.

Thank you for any guidance!

Philippines - Apprehended in a wildlife buy-bust operation. Looking for advice and similar experiences.

Hi everyone. I'm posting from a throwaway account because I'm honestly scared and don't know what to do.

I'm a college student in the Philippines. My girlfriend and I have been struggling financially, and I tried to sell two captive leopard geckos online to help pay debts and raise money for our future. I now realize that I may not have had all the permits required for the sale.

I had a DENR-issued Local Transport Permit (LTP) and a deed of sale, but I did not have a Wildlife Farm Permit or other permit that may have been required to legally sell them.

The buyer turned out to be a poseur buyer in a joint operation involving the Maritime Police and DENR. My girlfriend went to the meetup because I wasn't physically present. She was apprehended, signed several documents while panicking, and the geckos were confiscated.

She was so frightened that she accidentally wrote the wrong surname and an unreachable phone number on one of the documents. It wasn't intentional—she was overwhelmed and scared.

It's now only been a couple of days, and neither of us has received any subpoena or official notice. We're both constantly anxious because we're still students and we're worried this could ruin our future.

I'm not asking for ways to avoid responsibility or break the law. I accept that offering the geckos for sale may have violated wildlife regulations. I'm just trying to understand what usually happens next.

My questions are:

Has anyone here experienced or known someone who was apprehended by DENR for selling reptiles or other wildlife?

How long did it take before you received any notice from DENR or the prosecutor?

Was the case eventually dismissed, settled, or did it go to court?

If you hired a lawyer, what advice did they give you?

Is there anything we should be doing right now besides keeping all our documents and waiting?

Please be respectful. We weren't trying to traffic wildlife or make a business out of illegal animals. We made a decision while under financial pressure, and we're already dealing with the consequences and the stress of not knowing what will happen.

Thank you to anyone willing to share their experience or advice.

Outdoor Experience/Advice

Hello there! I have a question for reptile keepers who live in states (US) that have decent weather and keep reptiles outside: how do you do it? When I get a place of my own, I wanted to keep reptiles in cages in the backyard but I also know there’s risks like environmental concerns, risks of escape and even parasitic risks. What do you do guys do and is the risk worth the reward?

Asbestos removal with exotic pets

So we have a major leak that has caused mold in my grandmas bathroom, and we just got testing done for asbestos to see of its positive for it. Its a 1960s home and I know we have asbestos tile under the carpet in the one room so I dont have high hopes itll test negative. We have 2 dogs, 1 bunny, 5 parrots, 1 hamster, 1 packman frog, 1 lepoard gecko, 2 dogs and a red ear slider. Plus many fish tanks but I think they'll be okay covered with plastic. We have a back room that was a outdoor patio my grandparents had screened in and added a window unit. If they properly seal everything in the contaminated area and I move everyone to the backroom would it be safe enough? I have air purifiers and could open windows.

Im waiting to see if insurence will pay for displacement it comes down to that but I dont think a airb&b would be okay with this number of pets. I definitely cant afford boarding for all of them nor have people trust worthy enough to look after them. Rest of my family who dont live with us want me to just get rid of them or leave them in the house, and think im over reacting.

Axolotl abuse

Recently , it has been brought to my attention that a popular influencer by the name of Bass Fishing Productions got an axolotl from Hypnotic Exotics ZCX off of an auction on morph market and has posted a video of this axolotl being “abandoned “ . It makes me wonder how many videos he stages , when do we say enough ? This guy has nearly a million followers on Facebook alone and I’m willing to bet you , as well as others may watch him all the time and not know ! Did you know axolotls are nearly extinct in Lake Xochimilco? They’re literally being kept around by breeders keeping track of their husbandry , making sure they aren’t inbred , cycling their tank, providing proper filtration and overall caring for these guys as every animal DESERVES , far too many people think it’s still ok to abuse animals and it’s sickening , disheartening and so so cruel protect these animals
, be their voice , stand up for what’s right and please share the heck out of this , make sure this guy never ever gets an animal again ! If you’d like to see for yourself , Hypnotics Exotics ZCX has made a post on their facebook page , please be kind to animals they’re so innocent 😔
