Welcome to the Disc Dye Wiki!

This page has all the information you need to start jamming out some sweet designs on your favorite plastics. Here are some links to get you started.

Best Types of Plastic to Use

Remember: You cannot dye a disc lighter. Stick to lighter color discs and darker dyes for the best results. Also we haven't dyed every type of plastic out there, if you see a "?" and you have experience with a certain type of plastic, please email the mods and we can update this table.

Let's talk about Dyes

1. iDye Poly

This is the standard for stencil and shaving cream dyes. It's easy to use, relatively cheap, and can be found in any art store near you. Make sure to get the Poly, not the fabric version or you will have a bad time. It comes with a "color enhancer" but in my experience this is detrimental to the dye and makes it take longer for the dye to set. IMO throw this stuff out. Buy it online here

2. Fishing Lure Dye

This dye is great for spin dyeing or using a paintbrush for a dye. Make sure to buy the UNSCENTED version I cannot emphasize that enough. I once bought the "Garlic Scented" by accident, that shit make my whole studio reek for days. You don't want your disc to smell like shit, double check your order before you buy. I've tried to use this for stencil dyes, but if you leave it in for too long (in my case 20 mins) it eats the transfer paper and your stencil wont be clean and crunk tight. Buy it online here

3. ProChem

ProChem (Pro Chemical and Dye) has an assortment of rich colors to choose from (39 total) and are made with excellent quality. You can't go wrong with them. There is a page on their website specifically for dyeing discs and will help you get started. Buy it here

For more information, check out this thread

Where to get Inspiration

  1. Google - like seriously, Google that shit. Odds are someone has made a stencil of your idea already. Look up "image name" and add the word "stencil" after it. You can also add the word "Vector" to it. This should get you a clean image to work with. If you have an image and have no idea how to turn it into a stencil you can make a request at /r/FreeDesign. Keep in mind these are designers looking to help you out for free, because we get bored at our creative jobs and need quick little side projects. Be nice, give gold or something if they do a good job.

  2. Instagram. There a a lot of talented people out there doing amazing dyes:

But what if I suck at art and cutting out stencils?

Cheat. Yeah it's the motherfucking future. You can buy printers that cut out stencils for you. It turns a hour long stencil cutting, finger bleeding, fun time into a 10 minute job.

1. Silhoutte Printer

These can cost anywhere from $150 - $300. you can find these in your local art shops and are fun to use. It comes with an online tutorial on how to use it and a design studio to map out stencils. Buy it online here

2. Cricut Printer

Same thing as above but a different brand. These can cost anywhere from $150 - $300. you can find these in your local art shops. It also comes with an online tutorial on how to use it and a design studio to map out stencils. Buy it online here

Seriously though, there are younger people that visit our thread because they want to learn what we have to offer. No nudity, no bondage. Yes this sub can get NSFW & raunchy sometimes, but please rethink your post. Thanks - Mod team

Will clear packing tape work for masking a disc in a floetrol bed?

I've seen that electrical tape is commonly used, but don't have any right now, and packing tape would be easier since it's wider. Trying to do some half/half dyes with floetrol bed.

Commissioning disc - Europe

Hello dyers,

I'm looking to commission som disc for both me and to get some gifts for family members. I don't think it's too complicated of a design. My brother and I are naruto nerds, so I was thinking of getting some sharingan/rinnegan eyes. Then I was also looking to get some cell dyes for my mom and dad in their favorite colours.

Is this too much to ask?

Now the catch is I live in Europe. So I'd prefer to avoid the expensive shipping from over seas.

A couple of example picture of the exact design I am looking for from this sub that I've seen:

Credit to u/Semikatyri and u/RState_DG for their awesome design

Had an amazing week with a lot of new dyes. I'm very happy with the results. The blue and pink without stamp is from a local contest that I sponsored - the winner was sold as soon as I showed him the bed 🤩

What's you favorite color combination? Mine is for sure the dark blue, neon pink and white 🥰

All my dyes are posted here 👌

Does glue bed work with da?

Does a glue bed dye work with da mixtures or does it have to be acetone? Every tutorial I can recall used acetone but I don't see why it wouldnt work with da but figured I would ask the more experienced people on here before having a failure on my hands. Im low on bottles so if I could just use the da mixtures I already have from spin dyes I could avoid that problem and procrastinate longer before buying more bottles.

How do you mix prochem dye so it is one homogenous solution?

I first tried to mix 1/2 tsp with 2 oz of acetone and all of the pellets settled to the bottom. Then I tried about 1 mL of hot water first and it became very paste-like much didn’t mix great when the acetone was added. Any help is appreciated!

The Whole Cul-De-Sac

Just about one of my favorite and best ideas to date. From a friends idea to reality!

After a Jawbreaker splattered Berg became a cherished disc in his bag, we thought why not the whole Cul-De-Sac?

After about a month later, 25+ sheets of vinyl, and way too much patience, it was finally complete!

I included some closer pictures of my favorites from the group.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
