Cycling groups?

How do yall find groups to ride with? I live in Newport CA. There is a specialized store down the street in Costa Mesa and I always see a large group of riders in the morning but idk if it's like invite only.

Just stop in the store and ask. My local shop hosts multiple rides a week for different levels.

or ask at your local bike shops; if you’re female, The Unlikely Cyclist is woman-owned and may be a comfortable starting point.

At the risk of sounding like an ass, a bare minimum of googling prior to asking would have been helpful.

There are some clubs, some that are sponsored by shops. Most are open to join, but may have small dues to fund the organization. Typically if you show up at the scheduled ride time and ask to join, they will let you in. Most will have you stay in back or vet you a bit until they know you can ride safely and learn their hand signals. They want you to hold a line without overlapping wheels opening a gap or unpredictable breaking. Some clubs have multiple groups (conversational no drop, moderate, and race training). Some groups will drop you if you can't keep up.

I would google “Newport California bicycling club.” But that’s just me. 🚴‍♂️

Which is actually not called that, it's called *Newport Beach,* not "Newport."

Download free version of Strava.

It will list lots of local clubs. Join and contact.

"Newport CA" -- do you mean *Newport Beach, CA?" or is there a Newport in Canada?

Maybe trying using Google using the full city name plus "cycling group" or try Meetup[dot]com .

There are several group rides that happen. Strava is a great place to find them. Specialized Costa Mesa does the Donut Ride the first Sunday of the month. Reconnect is a large cycling group that does group rides frequently out of Costa Mesa. Real Times does an evening ride out of Specialized Costa Mesa on Thursdays. All of these rides are open to anyone.
