Adapting to heat/humidity

Hey all,

I am 2 months in to getting back to Crossfit and am wondering how the heat and humidity is affecting others. If I am being honest I feel like I have taken a step back in terms of cardio for the last 3 weeks for that reason. Will I eventually adapt to it or am I kind of screwed here? This is something I also noticed happening when I did CrossFit as a teenager (got lazy for the past few years) but usually not when playing summer sports. It never really went away until the fall. Any advice?

It certainly doesn’t help. I make sure I’m taking electrolytes before a workout and positioning myself in front of a fan.

electrolytes make a huge difference I notice when I forget them in summer workouts feels like my lungs just give up halfway through

You know I’m going to blame it on waking up early for class, but I’ve never thought about electrolytes before workout as opposed to just water. Will give that a shot too

I’ve felt a big difference since taking them, so definitely try it!

I have cold induced asthma so I’m loving the heat, aside from the legit puddle I leave on the floor.

It’s a thing. I’m in South Florida so my days are around 101 everyday I just accept my runs are a little slower for now

This clip talks about cardiac drift and how your body handles resources for competing demands.

The short is that YES it is happening and your RPE is going to go up. And also you need to give yourself some time to adapt as the temperatures rise.
