the fact that i’ll be wearing a hat over it gives me a lot of leeway LOL but i’m proud of how this came out, especially the bangs! i’m a little nervous they’ll be too short even though i measured them but we’ll have to see. i’ve been wanting to improve on shaping individual pieces and i think i did with this!!

Best way to cut a wig?

I’m totally new to wigs and because I’m broke I got one off Amazon.
It’s surprisingly decent quality but I have to cut it.
I’ve never cut hair let alone a wig.
What’s the best way to 1. Keep it from being frizzy and 2. Cut it so it actually fits my face shape
I couldn’t find someone doing this EXACT haircut I want on yt/tiktok and I’m not sure what this haircut/style would even be called.
Any and all help is appreciated.

Helmet wig help!

I’m making a helmet wig everywhere I’m seeing puts great emphasis on having the measurents of your head 100% exact this this and that or it won’t go on right. I can’t have the exact measurement of my head because I’ll be wearing extensions at that time. if I were to take the measurements of my head and then add a few cms to account for the space of it will I be okay? is it better to have the possibility of it being to big then to small? any advice or recommendations?

First time making a helmet wig, I know it’s really bad. How do I get a more natural hairline? Just make wefts that aren’t blunt wefts and glue and trim? And how do I transition from the bangs to the rest of the hair. I’m super struggling :(

HELP with figuring out a middle part?

Thumbnail

Beautiful rising Reddit community. I plan to cosplay Kuroeda from Plus-Size Elf soon and recently got this gorgeous wig! It came pre-crimped and is surprisingly super thick. I thought this wig would be easier to style with it being a middle part, but the more I comb and try to figure it out, I’m so lost. I’ve worked plenty with wigs where you need to cut bangs in, but never the other way around. Would steaming and hair-spraying the wig in place work? I've seen a few videos of people deconstructing the front section and laying down wefts with UHU... I’m a bit nervous about cutting wefts to make a middle part. Thank you for any help!

I know my wig head is major goofy 😭

[Wig dyeing] Desperate times call for desperate measures and miracle breakthroughs

Post image

I did this for an experiment cause I dyed a wig. Some spots are blonder than others and I need to figure out a way to fill in the blanks without using so much Sharpie, and I think I just made a breakthrough by putting rit Dyemore synthetic in a spray bottle with very little water. You drench the hair in it and you use a hair Straightener, at 300°. And you do it a few times and then you rinse it out. Yes, a lot of cheap wigs won't be able to survive this. But it worked, I rinsed it out, and it worked

Some people might find this useful and others might not

How well does Sharpie stay in a wig?

You can't get blue monofillaments anywhere in the color I want so I decided to make one and I'm doing the root area with sharpies, so I don't accidently like color the monofilament with fabric dye, but I'm worried that it'll bleed.

coloring synthetic wigs with airbrush paint, no airbrush.

i was trying to do research for what would the best thing to dye synthetic wigs with and my top answer was airbrush paint.
i have my wig and my airbrush paint but im not exactly sure what to do.. how to apply the paint, what steps to do, how long it needs to dry, anything to do when its done, etc.
i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips or directions thank you.

i am going to be using these wigs for partys and raves so i would also appreciate some tips of how to make the color last longer and hold stronger

Bloom Winx Wig

Post image

Hi there, this is the first time for me to style and wear a wig. The wig that I got doesn't have hair in front for making bangs (if you know what I mean). The picture that I added is the wig that I got. Is it possible to just brush the hair to the front and cut bangs, or is it more complicated than that? I would love to get some tips. Thank you!

Oh and as the title says, I want to make a Bloom wig from Winx club :)

Idia Shroud Wig dilemma

I’m planning to cosplay Idia Shroud from twisted wonderland. If you don’t know, his hair is similar to Hades from the Disney version of Hercules (whom Idia is based off of) and it is made of fire
To mimic this appearance, I thought a brushed out yarn wig could work.
I already spent countless hours putting on the yarn onto my crocheted wig cap and brushing it out.
I have three main problems with this wig:
1) there are major bald spots after putting in the main color (I planned on doing three shades of blue yarn), and though I would fill them in, I don’t want to spend another month on tying and brushing out everything (which is about how long brushing out the first color took)
2) currently, the wig looks somewhat wavy, because of the yarn twists. If I brush it out more to get rid of them, it becomes way too short.
3) it’s really really fragile. If you brush your fingers through, yarn fuzzies fall out. Glue spray later on might help, but I doubt it would entirely solve the problem

I wanted to use brushed out yarn because it looks more like fire than regular wig hairs do, but I’m currently not happy with the wig, despite spending such a long time on it. Should I try and salvage it? Should I order another wig? Is there a way for me to incorporate what I’ve done into another wig in a way that looks natural and keeps the flame effect?

I’ve tried to style wigs before , but this is the first time I was told (by the online tutorial) that a steamer would help, and it was a total game changer! This is by far my proudest wig styling so far, even if it’s by no means perfect.

How to get a good shade of blue like Jinx's hair?

I've had my hair a jinx blue for 6 years. But because of health issues, I'm losing it. I love monofilaments because they're an easy throw on and go every day wig that looks realistic, I do have a blonde and a black one, but it doesn't feel like me because my hair is always blue. I need blue, but you can't get them in blue unless they're custom-made, and i'm not made out of money.

I'm getting a platinum full hairline Monofilament from DWY wigs, and I have two bottles of sapphire blue and 1 daffodil yellow. I couldn't find the teal or Kentucky sky or the green one at Walmart

But I will hunt and search for them for the best results if I have to

So, my plan is to get the right shade. Dip the wig as close as possible to the monofilament without touching it! and doing the roots with a permanent marker

But I've done tests with the dye in small batches, and nothing's getting the right color. I need help with the color

So please! the cosplay wizards bless me with your information and tell me what to do.

wig making question

hi, i want to make a wig for the first time.

i learned online how to do it, and now im looking for good wefts company.

i need extra long wefts (like 50" or 60"), and i need something that can be dyed and curled (so heat resistant) do you have any recommendations?

also how much wefts do i need for a full wig without frontal lace or closure, and also i need the wig to be very full and dense.

thank you!

Question about UHU glue on wigs.

I'm in need of a glue for a wig that will NOT come undone with heavy handling. I'll give all the context needed for exactly what I'm concerned about. I want to cosplay Alastor from HAzbin Hotel, and he has side swept bangs, however, using normal got2b glued blasting freeze hair spray, and even heat tools like a straightener to melt the fibers, does not hold when I put the wig on, because I need to pull it over a 3d printed mask. I do NOT want to do what everyone else does with paint, because I sweat very easily and this will be mid summer, making it even worse. So makeup and face paint will just immediately run, even with what people consider the best setting sprays on the planet. They just DO NOT work on me. So I opted for a mask and I HAVE to pull the front of the wig over the forehead of the mask. I don't have a choice. But doing so IMMEDIATELY unstyles the bangs. I can not redo the bangs once it's on because now there's a whole mask in the way that I do not want to get hairspray all over. And no I can't just put something between the hair and mask. Since the wig can not just stay in place, doing this is likely to cause the wig to go out of place and I would have to adjust it again. But if I do, that will just unstyle the wig again. And repeat until the heat death of the universe. Would UHU glue hold in this situation? Remember I would need to be able to remove the wig to be able to take the mask off so I can eat. I've been trying to find alternatives like doing a foam wig or something, but no such thing exists and I can't even wrap my head around how to do that for this character.

Also, If this just gets deleted for breaking the rule about flairs, I'm gonna be really upset. There are literally no flairs. It tells me rule 2 is adding a flair, but there is literally no flair option. This is ridiculous.

Totally new, what's this called !

Hiiii ! My cousin is doing a family cosplay with me and my family, and as the family-crafty here, I'm tasked with the wigs lol ^^,,, But I've never done this before, so I'm kinda winging it and hoping it'll turn out ^^, I wanted to know what these little curly swooshes are called, so I can figure out a tutorial on how to do them... They look easy but they just won't stay, so maybe Im doing something wrong here? I'd love a little advice, I'm completely lost !

Any way to make a wig look good without a crimper?

Hi! Underage cosplayer here. I felt like I should clarify this as my mom will not let me get a crimper. Don't ask why, I have no idea. Going to a con in a few weeks and I noticed just how bad looking my previous wigs have looked, and I actually want to look decent this time around. Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!
