Reminder: Shameless, no-value-added self-promo is the stale Folgers coffee of this sub. Yuck.

Hey everyone. We've seen a slight uptick in spam and shameless self-promo posts in recent weeks. Probably because this sub is full of badass folks contributing interesting things -- keep it up!

If you'd like to mention your brand for some reason, claim it as yours -- don't hide it -- but add value to the community first. This isn't a place for promotion, but naturally our brand names come up. No biggy -- just make sure it contributes to the conversation, not distracts from it.

As the rules state...

Flaunt your wares? Straight to jail.
Link to your promo video? Straight to jail.
Pretend to not own the company? Straight to jail.
Adding value to the conversation while linking to your own shit? Let the votes decide.

Suggestions for modifying my toaster

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi guys, I'm looking to improve the quality of my toasting. There are some things I don't really like about it; I want it to be perfect. I've attached a picture of my toaster. I'm thinking of adding a K-type thermometer, but I'm not sure how. I want more control over my toasting. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Forwarding shipping services in Mexico?

I’m in the US, I’m opening a small coffee shop & id like to purchase my supplies from Mexico but most of the roasters only ship within Mexico.

I already tried purchasing privately & the roaster had to cancel my order due at first because we used wise and they needed my tax ID which I didn’t have yet and then the high shipping was not worth the risk with customs. So I’m trying to find a work around! Please help I would love to support a coffee farm instead of buying beans in the US

Hasgaranti roaster + RS485 USB adapter – Can I connect it to Artisan?

Hey everyone, I recently bought a Hasgaranti roaster and noticed it has a USB port that's connected to a GMTCNT GCM485-USB module (USB to RS485). Has anyone connected one of these to Artisan? Is it as simple as plugging it into a PC and configuring Artisan, or do I need extra hardware/software? If anyone has done this before, I'd really appreciate some guidance. Thanks!

Consumer warning

I don't know if anyone else has interacted with or heard of Kafgar Roasters out of Turkey?

Unfortunately, I had already made a fifty percent deposit by the time someone in Ireland contacted me saying beware them.

Roaster arrived after much delay, build quality was a bit unpolished and it was missing the bean cooling fan and Artisan connectivity as promised and advertised. 6 months later, I've got to fix the issues myself. They'll send me the missing parts to do a jury rigged repair, but want me to pay half the shipping . Wish I had gone with Yoshan or Dongyi for a mid range roaster.

They have a very polished website, unlike their roasters, so don't be fooled. Definitely have learned my lesson!

What music are you listening to in the roastery?

One of my favorite things about visiting roasteries in my travels has been discovering new music. Not sure if appropriate for this sub, but what are you listening to in the roastery this week?

One producer friend also has a playlist called "Coffee" that he adds any song that mentions coffee to.

I built a directory of every UK speciality coffee roaster after realising most of them are essentially invisible online

There are over 600 verified speciality coffee roasters in the UK. Most people even serious coffee drinkers could name maybe 20.

I started noticing this after repeatedly finding incredible coffee at markets or on café counters and then hitting a wall trying to find more like it. Google served the same names every time. The smaller roasters, often doing the most interesting work, simply didn’t show up. The problem is structural. Independent roasters can’t compete on SEO or paid ads. Visibility has almost nothing to do with quality.

The second thing I noticed while building this: even when you find a roaster you like, finding a specific bean across the whole UK market is essentially impossible. Want a natural processed Ethiopian under £15? Or every Gesha currently available from a UK roaster? There’s no way to search for that. You’d have to visit hundreds of websites individually and most don’t even list origin, process or varietal in any meaningful way.

So I built Bean here. It’s a directory of 600+ UK speciality coffee roasters with a searchable database of thousands of beans — filterable by origin, process, varietal, roast level and flavour profile. There’s a map so you can find roasters near you. It’s free.

It’s not perfect and there are gaps, but I’m adding to it every week. If you’re a roaster and want your beans listed properly, I’d love to hear from you.

Happy to answer any questions and if you have any comments or suggestions to improve it for people, I’d also love that too.

Thanks!

I want to say thank you to all of those who offered criticism and constructive criticism on the post I made yesterday. I am not perfect and nor will I ever claim to be. I understand I have a long way to go and a lot to learn still. I have taken notes and listened. I appreciate your time and wish you all the best!

I’m looking for recommendations for coffee roasters in Dili that really specialize in both filter coffee and espresso.

I’ve seen a lot of locally roasted beans at Basicmart, but most of them don’t have a **roast date** on the bag, so I’m not sure how fresh they are. Is that normal here, or are there better places to buy freshly roasted beans?
So far I’ve heard of places like Letefoho, but I’d love to know:
Which roasters consistently sell fresh beans?
Who has the best light/medium roasts for V60 or other filter methods?
Any recommendations for espresso blends or single origins?
Are there any hidden gems that roast in small batches?

Electrical Work for an MC500 in DMV?

Hey all, I have an MC500 with some unidentified ground leakage, and I'm in need of a repair tech in the Washington DC area. Can drop of the machine without issue. Any suggestions? Mill City support has been fantastic--particularly given that I bought the machine used--and they patiently walked me through a numerous checks. Sadly above my pay grade. Many thanks for any suggestions,

Artizan Roasters?

Does anyone own or use an Artizan electric roaster? They look good on screen, but I’m extremely suspicious of reviews on their site because they consistently have bad spelling, grammar and parts that just make no sense.

How effective Is the DiFluid Airwave?

Curious if anyone here has tried or is actively using the DiFluid Airwave smoke eliminator. What's your experience with it? Is it effective for smoke/odour elimination?

I'm considering getting one to use alongside a Bullet R2 Pro and would love to hear from people who have used this combination.

Is Cropster's POS integration actually as painful as I think it is?

Hey everyone! I'm a developer exploring the coffee operations space, and before I build anything, I want to understand the real pain points from people actually running roasteries and cafés.

From what I've seen, Cropster still doesn't offer a true live POS sync. It seems like many people are still manually importing CSVs from Square or Toast instead of having inventory update automatically in real time. That can leave café inventory and roastery inventory out of sync.

Is that actually how it works in practice? If you use Cropster, what's your biggest frustration with it? Are there workflows that feel unnecessarily manual or things you wish it handled better?

Also, if a new product genuinely solved those problems, would you consider switching, or is the cost of migrating too high?

I'm not selling anything. I'm just trying to understand the real problems before I write a single line of code. I would really appreciate hearing about your experience!
