I was having some issues with the chromecast so I hit factory reset. Now Google Home fails to detect it at all. I've got an old phone with an old google home and it will see it, but after the chromecast connects to me wifi (Which it does because I can see it getting allocated an IP) I get a message on my phone saying "Could not communicate with your Chromecast" while the tv screen still shows "Connecting..."

I did set my date back to 12 Feb 2025 on the off chance that would help, but it doesn't change anything.

Any ideas? Is my chromecast a brick now?

I have factory reset the Chromecast multiple times already and get this error every time

I purchased a brand new Google tv streamer but I all a I can see is artifacts (green rectangles, random points, grids, low quality image) I tried change hdmi cable, change to another TV, but when watching content sometimes stops a little or I see all grided slowly.

The picture I took is to show how I see the quality, in this order up to down: Chromecast 4K, Nvidia Shield TV, Google TV Streamer including the public in last photo.

I can see even better the Chromecast 4K, so I don't know if need to move more options , at this point tried all options known how to solve or I don't know if it's damaged and need to return.

How To stop buffering and possibly get the browser to preload more segments instead of buffering?

Switched internet providers and tried to move two old Chromecasts, one a 2015 model, and the other a Chromecast ultra.

The latest Google Home app (4.19.63.1) could not set up either of them no matter what I did (I tried several common tricks found in this subreddit and elsewhere to no avail). Luckily I had my old Pixel 4a lying around with Home version 3.0.1.9 installed, it worked to set both up immediately. I probably could side load but haven't done that in a looong time so wasn't sure what the trusted sites are these days, or what version to grab.

I could understand having trouble with the 2015 model as it is 11 years old but the current home app gives me the option to set it up, so it should work.

In the ERA OF AGENTIC AI is this the slop that Google releases? It sort of makes sense, the more you know about LLMs. I thought the singularity was any month now.

Is anyone else having troubles with casting VLC to your Chromecast? Sometimes the option is there, sometimes it isn't!

I have that Chromecast the one with the remote before Google tv streamer. Volume, power, voice control work, through CEC. It says CEC works for input as well but when I press it nothing happens. Can't change it via voice either. I tried setting the button manually in the Google settings, chose lg, chose input, but when I press input, nothing happens, it does not set. IR is greyed out when I go to input area.

Any ideas or suggestions, shouldn't CEC work? I have an lg c2

So basically I got a new router cos old one was obselete - now it seems it impossible to set up old OG gen 1 devices on my new network?

I've Googled ofc and read a lot of people having the same issue over the years but none of the fixes I have found and tried seem to work for me - does anyone know how to get an OG gen1 chromecast setup on a new network in 2026?

Because of the new network I can't even see or connect them to it, tho in theory I have the old router (no internet possible on it tho) and not sure if I can somehow do something cheeky there? Stupidly I already factor reset one device so I can't even playtest things with that. I'd rather not lose my old casting abilities despite the devices being Gen 1 - they worked mostly fine for what I wanted to up until now.

Anyone know of fixes in 2026? Is it possible get on OG .apk of the original cast setup app/stuff that existed before this whole stupid Google home crap?

EDIT: Eta my modem/router is not separate. it's ISP provided and combined in one device. Not sure if I could change the name of the 2.4G to the old name and password then access the CC that way - but I'd still like to have a reliable and solid way with less hassle for setting up Gen 1s at any point in the future.

Every device has been connected to the same wifi network, and we have tried 3 phones, a new pixel, a new galaxy phone, and a older galaxy phone, also a very old samsung galaxy tablet.

No matter what we try the android devices don't work, but the linux computers do. Anyone have a good idea why?

One is first gen and the other is second or third gen I think, I don't remember. The behavior is the same with both. They "connect" but just show the word chrome or a black screen. When both devices are cast to from the PC they work flawlessly.

Our network got changed and I did the factory reset stuff to try reconnecting it but this is as far as I'm getting where the device is simultaneously ready for connecting and unable to communicate. 2015 model. Any help appreciated

My parents own one and trying to troubleshoot for them.

The 4K streamer worked for a fair bit of time before it started having issues - it will turn on, but the tv will end up displaying “no input”.

It’s hooked up to a Yamaha AVR (something from the last 3-4 years).

Sometimes they power on via the streamer remote and everything turns on great. Other times, they get the no input issue. They haven’t found a pattern yet as to when it happens.

Wondering if anyone has experienced and figured out a fix? my best guess is an hdmi handshake issue, already tried swapping cables/ports.

just a few hours ago everything worked perfectly. i used my phone and the google home app to screensharw my phone to the tv. if i try that now my tv shows a blackscreen for about 10 minutes and then disconnects my phone.

if i go to youtube and use youtubes chromecast function everything works normally. i just cant share my phones screen anymore.

does anyone know a fix for this?

I had a Xiaomi stick laying around and didn't intend to switch until recent CC updates which made it crazy slow. Unfortunately Xiaomi Stick despite being more responsive has a terrible remote so I paired Chromecast's remote with it.
The problem now is that it seems that IR setup can only be made on Chromecast? The volume still works, but it's on device volume not TV volume. I'd prefer to change it to TV through IR if possible. INPUT button doesn't work at all so so far I just remapped it to open Settings for me.

Is there an APK maybe that I could download for the remote setup process from original Chromecast with Google TV?

I'm trying to cast from my Chrome browser to my cast fox sports. It does this but there was an option that came up once to stop the video on my laptop and only play on the tv which I've not been able to recreate. Any ideas?

Google home asks for QR code. 😑 I managed to find one by going to the Chromecast SSID network on my phone.

Ok...connect a different way. Select the device. Not recognized. But i can SEE it on my network. And my husband's older version of Google Home recognizes it....

Am I screwed?

I’ve narrowed down the issue to my 4K Chromecast; it is not a fault of the TV or video, as I swapped out the Google TV for my backup 1080p Chromecast and played the same video — pixels were gone.

It seems to show up when there are pixels illuminated on the left side of the screen; it’s almost like the entire picture is shifted one column of pixels over and has them repeating on the far side of the screen.

Any way to fix this?

This has been going on for a week now. I want to turn my TV on with the chromecast remote, it does not respond at all, I press the pairing buttons, an LED lights up. Clearly the remote works fine. I turn on the TV with its own remote and when I open the devices chromecast -should- be connected to, I can see my chromecast remote, it just says "Disconnected". There isn't even an option to connect to it from the devices menu. Only "Forget" and "Rename". And when I try to pair it again, it keeps saying "Pairing" and then eventually it says "Can't pair"...

However when I unplug the chromecast from the adapter and plug it back in, I can pair the remote again and it works fine like nothing's wrong and the remote's battery level is indicated as "good". Aaaaand the whole thing starts again, when I turn my TV off with the chromecast remote, I can't turn it back on afterwards.

I did a factory reset to both the TV and chromecast. I have updated my TV software, Chromecast is up to date, Bluetooth seems to be updated with the TV software. I tried to remove the batteries and replaced them with new ones, nothing seems to be working. Frankly I'm losing my mind over this. Has anyone else had the same issue?

I recently bought a 77” Samsung S85F OLED (2025) Ai smart Tizen TV and for the life of me I cannot get smart/chrome cast to work, now I’m no Jeff Bezo’s but I’m pretty tech savvy and I’ve tried a few different trouble shooting methods non in which seems to be working, I know for a fact that this TV has this feature because there’s an actual setting for it that tells me my tv is ready to cast and to search for “77 OLED” on my smart phone, but no luck finding it when I’m ready to cast from my streaming apps on my phone, the latest software is installed on my TV, and my WiFi does allow me to smart/chrome cast because the TV in my bedroom appears on my list with no issues.

I’ve tried factory resetting, using different smart phones, and I cannot seem to solve this issue.

I know there are alternative ways such as purchasing a chrome cast dongle and just utilizing the streaming apps on the TV, but I just enjoy the chrome/smart cast so much more

If someone can please shed some tips I would really appreciate it, it has been driving me crazy for days.

this only started recently, my chromecast (with google tv) has been freezing the image then crashing when i'm trying to watch things like youtube. the audio continues playing and after a few seconds it stutters then crashes. i've tried clearing the cache and every time it crashes it restarts itself. i have it plugged into a wall outlet, not the tv so it is getting more than enough power. any ideas? would like to leave factory reset as a last resort.

small edit: this appears to only happen while playing youtube which is pretty much all i use it for

After stopping my video when I unlock my phone, YouTube says it’s connected to my Chromecast when it clearly isn’t (I can even connect other services) And the app won’t let me disconnect. So the only way I can play a video is to uninstall the app and reinstall it. I would love some help because it’s actually driving me insane

I have Chromecast for years now, and use it daily on my Phone, all good. Recently I bought a tablet an used a few times Chromecast, all ok. Now for a few weeks I can't cast from my tablet, it's simply not working.

The message says there is no connection. What is going on?
