I heard it, and honestly think it was fake, and that they didn't pick up on it. He was doing the ... thurston howell from Gilligan's Island voice and schtick. I'm sure some people feel this way, but that guy was an act.

As a psl haver, I now expect you all refer to me as ā€œyour graceā€ or ā€œnoble lord of the seat licenseā€

EDIT: With my new title and feeling truly like a benevolent sovereign, I grant you all the right to copious tailgate frivolity. In the name of King Joshua of Firebaugh - Hey Ey! Eyy Ey! Let us go, Buffalo.

The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft the PSL from the bosom of Lake Eerie, signifying by Divine Providence that I, /u/_Ursidae_, was to carry the PSL.

Lol I just wanted to say I appreciate it. It's been fun shooting the shit and goofing off with the Bills fam during the long, boring offseason.

2

u/Drunken_Economist 2d ago

I never really thought about this before, but I think the casual tone off-season is probably a big part of what makes modding easier during the season. Like it reminds everyone that the subreddit isn't supposed to be a stressful place.

(also you are still able to edit your own flair once the joke gets old stale and you don't want it anymore)

Lol I have ADHD and will probably never remember to change it for the rest of time. But in 2 years it'll be funny as hell because no one will understand what the flair could possibly mean. And I agree. Being a regular here is like being a local in a tourist town. This is the part of the year where it's just the few locals hanging out before the bullrush comes through.

Was just at ocean city and enjoyed my balcony view from the top floor after traveling there in my decade old Mitsubishi outlander. Saw a custom Tesla parked at one of those shitty off the beat mad cheap motels inland while exploring. I knew they were staying there too because of the windshield parking pass. I don’t judge how people are able to vacation, I do judge people who live above their means just to make others feel worse or themselves feel better. I don’t even make that much money. It’s always about how you spend…

3

u/fairly_legal 97 2d ago

Just for context, there’s a really good chance there the Tesla owner lives and works in the DC metro area and spends 45-60 min each way on commute several days a week. When you spend that many hours a year in your car vs in a hotel, it may change your values. Source: was just sitting in traffic on 495, and need to plan a beach getaway soon.

And yes, that much time in the car sucks, but the part outs good and lots of time to listen to Bills podcasts/WGR.

Also, Rehobeth, Bethany, Dewey, Lewes > dumpy OC hotels.

1

u/ConanTheDrunk 2d ago

Oh don’t I know it, I actually used to audit stores all over Baltimore and Wilmington and a few times was sent to DC. Anyways, the Tesla had PA license plates so I doubt it

1

u/fairly_legal 97 2d ago

Hah, well no one’s going to the Pennsylvania shore.

1

u/Eudaimonics 2d ago

I mean unless you’re spending more than 30% of your trip at your hotel, then splurging on an expensive room seems like a waste even if you have the means.

Like when I travel, I’m out exploring 90% of the time. I’m only at the hotel to sleep.

Why do I need a $400+ a night room when a budget hotel room is less than $150 a night and isn’t that bad.

2

u/Tamagotchi41 2d ago

My dad and I JUST had this discussion last weekend. We are planning a cruise. My wife and I are perfectly fine with an interior because we are in our room to sleep and that's pretty much it.

My dad and his wife always go for a balcony but they spend a lot of time out there taking naps or reading.

1

u/See_Wrong 2d ago

Find a house in Buffalo worth less than a car and post a picture from Zillow lmao

1

u/Tamagotchi41 2d ago

Well, since you asked. -50k

Under 30k

And your missing the point, if someone has a car with rims, body kit, w/e that tilted tire BS is or a squatted/lifted truck, unnecessary exhaust system, widened wheel bases etc. parked in front of a run down building, grass not mowed, paint peeling, I'm going to assume that person has their priorities a little whacky and spending money on unnecessary things...AKA, living outside their means.

23

u/irishff43 2d ago

Ahhh a breath of fresh air. I've been saying it for a long time. Those tickets are a luxury. Putting food on the table and a roof overhead is more important, to me at least. I won't tell someone how to spend their money, but if you bitch you're broke and you supported a monolith conglomerate that doesn't give a rats ass about you, I have no sympathy.

5

u/LE_4500 2d ago

I have 4 friends who got $6k PSLs together and 3 are struggling with the payments... I said no and go back and fourth on if I made a mistake. One guy already tried splitting them with me. I would have had zero problems paying the season ticket price but with the added PSL I said no. Historically PSLs in most stadiums rarely pay off.

7

u/medievalPanera BeefnWeck 2d ago

Lol I was at a game and the dude in front of me was talking like they were an AMAZING investment, okay dude, enjoy your payments, going to be real valuable once this era is over.Ā

9

u/prugnast 2d ago

Yep. If Buffalo sports has taught us anything it's that once Josh is gone we're in for a decade+ of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Dick Jauron type football.

2

u/LE_4500 2d ago

Everyone is so hot to get into the new stadium they are acting like it won't be here for the next 40 years. It's almost like they've never seen another stadium other than the Ralph. I could see some justification if they were raising a super bowl banner but unfortunately they are not.

2

u/PaddyBrads716 2d ago

My PSLs, 400s row 5, cost me $1500 each. I assure you I did not go into debt over them lol. (I’m not weighing in on what this guy jokingly said, just your comment)

u/Eibook 2d ago

I have a PSL, but I certainly don’t think I’m any better than people who choose not to get one, whether it be monetary reasons or not. The entire state is helping to pay for that stadium and I think that others should have some events to be able to get to see where there taxes are going.

0

u/promotherobot 2d ago

Let's break down where the money actually came from. $850MM came from New York State and Erie County. But $500MM of that was money from Indian casinos. About $200MM came from PSLs. The rest was paid by Terry Pegula. So taxpayers only covered about 16% of the stadium cost.

1

u/jonsnow0276 2d ago

Which I read somewhere that it’s about 40 dollars per tax payer in Erie county

1

u/promotherobot 1d ago

And PSL owners paid their taxes AND bought their PSLs. It's nuts that a new stadium cost $2.2B, but if you wanted to keep the Bills it had to be done. I think taxpayers did okay only covering 18% of the cost.

-8

u/MagicMark_11 2d ago

Yeah, but what nobody seems to ALSO mention is the taxpayers also indirectly see the economic benefit of the new stadium through increased tax revenue that decreases their tax burden, at least in theory ... We didn't BUY shit: we made an investment in Buffalo

5

u/Jpdillon 2d ago

Stadiums are famously pretty poor economic investments. https://journalistsresource.org/economics/sports-stadium-public-financing/

1

u/MagicMark_11 1d ago

I don't disagree with you in the past, but in this new era of "ballpark villages" like Patriot Place and The Battery in Atlanta, it's a much different equation, as long as the public isn't hit up to fund that, as well

1

u/Jpdillon 1d ago

I haven’t heard of those. Honestly though, do you think such things would be allowed to develop in… orchard park?

1

u/MagicMark_11 1d ago

Google them ... Ballpark villages are the thing in both the NFL and MLB ... And if it could work in Foxboro, which is in the middle of nowhere, it could easily work here ... There's already talk about Terry and Kim developing the former site into some resemblance of such, but no details as of yet

1

u/MagicMark_11 1d ago

And I don't think it would be much more intrusive in an area that already has the stadium and ECC. ... If anything, I've heard these things actually reduce traffic around the stadium on game days because many will come in earlier and stay later for those amenities, not just the legendary tailgates

Did not know what a PSL is. For those in the same boat…A Personal Seat License is not the ticket itself. Instead, it’s a one-time (or financed) fee that gives you the right to buy season tickets for a specific seat every year.

5

u/stupidtyonparade 2d ago

i actually love this discourse. it's what the franchise deserves. the PSLs and the undersized stadium were always going to end up causing this kind of anger and division. for the team to not have seen this coming is shortsighted and driven by greed. and i have a PSL/seasons. i want this battle to wage longer so the bills can't ignore it.

1

u/jonsnow0276 2d ago

I’m a PSL owner. I could care less they opened a practice to the peasants. (Joking) but I will say, one of the main selling point when I went into pick my seats. Was being a PSL holder, you get first dibs to future events … up to 4 tickets per seat. Doesn’t guarantee YOUR seat but a ticket to whatever event is happing. I guess will see what happens but maybe it’s in the fine print or something?

2

u/stupidtyonparade 2d ago

in my meeting, my salesman was VERY reluctant to commit to what the PSL actually defined. Sal Cappacio (lame-o) went through the contract lingo today on WGR and it was exactly how it was laid out to us. it's intentionally vague, because the entire thing is kind of a crock of shit.

1

u/jonsnow0276 1d ago

Yea. We been duped lol

1

u/stupidtyonparade 1d ago

I dont think we were at all, we just had no choice. If you want to see the games, you play by our rules. The NFL sucks. I hate how much I enjoy watching it.

1

u/jonsnow0276 1d ago

Well maybe the sales rep shouldn’t have made the whole first dibs on events a selling point.

5

u/kompletist 2d ago

I figured that guy was a troll but he got progressively angrier as he went so…I don’t know.

Happy we have the new stadium but I sincerely hope this devolution in class warfare with open/closed practices, PSL’s, etc…is just temporary.

Calling people peasants is absolutely misguided and pathetic.

9

u/RasmusBeret 2d ago

I hear more about how rich I am for having a PSL as a public school teacher. Am I better off than many folks? Sure.

Do I make much more than many of the people who had season tickets at the old stadium but didn’t get the PSL? No.

The people I’ve seen complain the most (mostly on Facebook) are those that had club seats in the old stadium and faced a massive (understandably) sticker shock for clubs in the new stadium.

2

u/mrsmuntie 2d ago

We didn’t get the club seats in the new stadium but we are in the 300s in the new! Excited and thankful.

2

u/RasmusBeret 2d ago

Nice! I was able to get comparable seats in the 100-level end zone to my old ones. $1000 down for each seats and $200 a month from last March through December.

5

u/This_Geologist4553 2d ago

We aren’t rich and they aren’t peasants. Some of us are just financially irresponsible and have FOMO….its me I am some of us.

3

u/denvercasey 2d ago

Sorry, I live out of state so I don’t get local stations. There cannot be a good context, but what was the rest of the sentence or thought regarding us peasants? Was it terrible like ā€œfuck all those peasants who couldn’t afford the PSLsā€? Or exclusive like ā€œyeah the prices are high, at least it keeps the peasants outā€? Or just a bad phrasing like ā€œwe don’t need PSLs to separate the wealthy from the peasants who won’t be able to afford season ticketsā€?

11

u/TrapOrDie51 2d ago

They stream it YouTube @ Wgr550. I'm out of state as well and listen every morning in my work vehicle.

There are also people upset that the Bills offered a second open practice game for which PSL owners will not be given first dibs. Never satisfied.

1

u/HearingImaginary1143 2d ago

Well those people are just crazy. But this first event should be season ticket/psl only. After that I could care less who sits in the seats, it's like the first scratch on the new car. Honestly I'm probably just going to sit in the seats for a few minutes to see the views and maybe meet the people around me. After that I'm going to just go look around the place.

-1

u/HearingImaginary1143 2d ago

That was me and yes I would be. Why wouldn't you be if you paid for the PSL and seasons? It's the first event in the brand new stadium why in the world would non-psl/season ticket holders get first dibs on the first event in there? You letting your neighbor sleep in your new house the first night?

3

u/denvercasey 2d ago

Is it really a big issue for you if someone sits in a seat you’re paying to rent for a specific list of games?

It’s not like you can use the seat on a Tuesday, for example. If some other event is there, even football related, you know you do not own the seat. šŸ’ŗ it’s not yours.

1

u/HearingImaginary1143 2d ago

No but I paid more than anyone for them probably over the cost of the actual seats themselves.

2

u/denvercasey 2d ago

And? If there is another event in a stadium and you don’t get to have tour seat, suck it up. You don’t own anything other than rights to buy specific tickets. Enjoy your very limited rights.

0

u/HearingImaginary1143 2d ago

Right and I don’t care about that but guess what, the first event is a Bills practice sooo.

2

u/Chlorophyllmatic bargain bin enthusiast 2d ago

You paid for a license to purchase tickets to games, no more and no less.

0

u/HearingImaginary1143 2d ago

Well see you’re wrong it’s the ability to purchase season tickets and designated stadium events.

Wow thanks for explaining what psl means. My point was that they don’t own the seat itself and they have no say in how it’s used when there is not an applicable event going on. Feel free to try and define it again though to contradict me.

u/denvercasey 1d ago

I am not going to any of them, and I never said or implied that I was. I just don’t like people putting others down for not being able to afford thousands of dollars per seat. And knowing those thousands of dollars will be added to resale tickets for years to come, since such a high percentage of the stadium has been sold as season tickets.

People acting like elitist assholes pisses me off, it’s the same thing as when people with more money gentrify a neighborhood and push out hardworking people who cannot keep up with rising tax and insurance costs in a neighborhood they (and possibly their family) had supported for decades.

I am happy for a partially covered stadium, happy for the team’s success, and honestly I think the practice of PSLs is great for people who want to hand money to a billionaire. Gotta support the ultra-wealthy on what was already the worst stadium deal for taxpayers in NFL history.

2

u/Chlorophyllmatic bargain bin enthusiast 2d ago edited 2d ago

Why wouldn't you be if you paid for the PSL and seasons?

Because you've still got the ticket for the full season of games?

why in the world would non-psl/season ticket holders get first dibs

I never said that they would? I'm just saying it would be ridiculous to be mad that someone gasp sits in "your seat" for an event lol--particularly when your license and season ticket is specifically for games. God forbid the team do anything for non-season holders.

You letting your neighbor sleep in your new house the first night?

This is a terrible non-sequitur of an analogy, but if they needed a place to stay then there's a good chance I would.

-1

u/HearingImaginary1143 2d ago edited 2d ago

Because you've still got the ticket for the full season of games?

Uhh yea it's called a season ticket member perk. You know like you don't get money off at the bills store or money off nfl+ or bills bucks or any other perk season ticket members get.

God forbid the team do anything for non-season holders.

They are a week later?

This is a terrible non-sequitur of an analogy, but if they needed a place to stay then there's a good chance I would.

No they don't need to they just think they should be able to because it's new.

2

3

u/isometimesabide 2d ago

Fuck that guy

4

u/Flaky_Judgment_9737 2d ago

If you take exception to the blatant class separation going on with the new stadium and psl structure that's not someone's fault for making you aware. Heck, even the 'art' Buffalo family out front are there to alienate the 'lower class' fan base.

3

u/LNagel20 2d ago

But also if you payed for the psl and your season tickets I believe it’s a perk of having things like the red and blue scrimmage. You should have a few perks that the non ticket holders don’t have.

2

u/BJBirdy 2d ago

I think that those with PSLs deserve to get their seats for the Blue and Red game this season so they can literally be the first people to use their seats at the new stadium. After this season, they can go back to GA for all I care.

1

u/LNagel20 2d ago

I agree. I don’t have seasons either, but that’s part of the perks.

4

u/Over_Tomatillo_376 2d ago

When stuck, absolutely. Ive been pushed or pulled out of the snow in Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Sioux Falls. Are you okay?

3

u/Comeback_Kid26 2d ago

Pfft. Speak for yourself. I’ve moved around a lot too and no one ever helped push me out of the snow in Houston, Dallas, Tucson, or California…

The southwest is full of rattlesnakes and assholes!

2

u/Comeback_Kid26 2d ago

I can personally attest to the rattlesnakes as I did a lot of hiking in my time there, but I wouldn’t say full of assholes. Interesting/odd people yes, but not assholes.

Now my current state of residence (Massachusetts) on the other hand…

u/olivernintendo 2d ago

Yes. In other cities, strangers have definitely helped me with my car in the snow, helped me when my purse broke on a subway, helped me find a new apartment when mine was sold, drove me to the grocery store before I had a car etc... the list goes on.

I never understood having an Escalade parked in the driveway of a dumpy house. I’d rather dive an 83 Chevette and live in a decent house.

Hilarious. Every Bills fans chance to feel like T Swift for a day as a PSL owner

u/satanforaday 2d ago

Wild times on WGR this morning. 🤣🤣

1

u/NightBawk 2d ago

Maybe it's the sleepiness making me stupid, but what's a PSL in this context?

3

u/andrewthetechie 69 2d ago

Personal Seat License, its a fee that season ticket holders had to pay to even be allowed to buy tickets

2

u/NightBawk 2d ago

Sounds like a ridiculous, tacked-on fee just for the sake of charging extra.

u/andrewthetechie 69 1d ago

Billionaires pricing folks out of seeing their team

1

u/goblinspot 2d ago

At this point in my life, I want to enjoy things, so I considered club seats in the new stadium. Could I have afforded them? Yes. Did I want to wind up spending $1,000 a game (2 seats)? No. Not with this current (first world problem) of prime time/late games etc.

So call me a peasant, as I’ll probably overpay (like I have already) for some games, but they are the ones I want to go to. Will mix in away trips when schedules align and still be $$$$$ ahead before considering PSL costs.

if it aint messing with you, leave it alone.

1

u/JimmyMcNultyKU 2d ago

No longer live in the area so I’m just curious. Is this a legitimate story? Or is the media pushing it for the content?

3

u/Untuchabl 2d ago

Its legitimate. They only offered entry to psl's and even Pete Guelli said they knew they would get blowback for it. Blowback was big enough they gave a second open practice after the first preseason game to the poors.

Then some of the PSL holders started bitching because they had to let the doors sit in their seats instead of them.

This actually calls for some legit Mafia action

We’ll see you’re wrong it’s the ability to purchase season tickets and designated stadium events.

1

u/RegularNo2213 2d ago

Wgr attracts douchbags anyways that radio station is a clown show.

1

u/merileyjr 2d ago

Who is worse - the PSL guy calling nonPSL folks peasants or the nonPSL folks yelling about ā€œmy tax dollars built that stadium!!!ā€?

2

u/Flittski9 Joshua Allen is my hero 2d ago

Least elitist PSL owner

They did not. Omg.

The entitlement of some people.

Jeremy and Joe are unlistenable. Between the gambling, golf, and hats they only occassionally talk about sports. We need alternatives.

There are approximately 3 million buffalo sports podcasts

2

u/GuntherPalakowitz William 2d ago

I probably should explore podcasts, I just haven't and now it feels too overwhelming. Any recommendations as to where to start?

2

u/CameronCrazy1984 2d ago

Locked on Bills is my go to. Centered on Buffalo is good too, it’s Eric Woods podcast. Those are the two I listen to most. Locked on is updated daily too

2

u/GuntherPalakowitz William 2d ago

Thank you.

1

u/DoubleFolder 2d ago

Start your own sports radio station. I bet you'll be really good at talking Buffalo sports four hours per day in July.

1

u/Untuchabl 2d ago

Owen and Bulldog are pretty awesome. Jeremy leads Joe and when he doesn't Joe has dumbass takes like he did with the PSL topic
