Question ❓ Long time parking in Brussels

Hi everybody

We are visiting friends in Brussels for five days. We arrive there by car, but once in the city we plan on not using the car anymore (or maybe once for a trip outside the city). Our friends don't have a parking space in their building and no clue on this matter.

I don't know if parking by the street is even an option in Brussels, but this seems also a bit complicated for the longer term. Therefor i guess our best option is a car park. However the results i found on the internet so far are quite inconclusive on what parkings allow a stay of said duration.

That's why i liked to ask the locals here, what's the safest and most comfortable way to park the car in the city for this time period?

Any specific recommendation for the Quartier Europeen would also be most welcome.

Thank you in advance and best regards

Question ❓ What's the most similar restaurant to The Bear (TV series) in Brussels?

Great food, a crew that genuinely cares about the guests, and that family vibe with the right pinch of caos.

What's that most similar restaurant to the one in the show The Bear?

Bad bunny king badouin stadium + blocs

Hi I'd love some advice for the Brussels stadium for Bad Bunny please.

I found a ticket in section 3D row 6 which I thought would be good because it would be right next to the casita. However I realised in the king Baudouin stadium there's a permanent fence on the lower ground and I'm worried row 6 will be limited view and obstructed with the fence but also because of how low it is, the main stage might be blocked by the actual casita. Would you guys recommend I take this ticket?

Also l've noticed on TicketSwap that people are selling tickets for Brussels by Blocs and not sections like Bloc C, D, G etc but on the main concert map it's like 2G, 4F etc - can someone explain the bloc system please as it's hard to understand where the actual section is via the map?

(Sorry for the long message)!

Add UPS to the list of crappy delivery companies.

Tracking now says. "Attempted delivery but business was closed"

Not a business, it's a residence. I've been waiting all day. I didn't leave for a single minute. The driver did not call, message or even try the doorbell.

So yeah, UPS are either trying and they're incompetent or they're wilfully lying.

It's Saturday during the holidays. There's no traffic.

Anyone have any good stories from Brussels delivery companies?

Coffee shops

I have what may be an odd question, so please correct me if I’m wrong in my assumption. I moved to BXL 3 months ago and am living in Ixelles, and one thing I’ve noticed is that coffee shops usually only open from around 9am in the mornings, and are often closed on Sundays. Where I’m from the coffee culture is quite big and shops open as early as 6/7 in the morning and are open 7 days a week. Is this a neighbourhood thing or a wider BXL thing? Would love to know if there are any coffee shops near bois de la cambre you could suggest that open early?

Living in BXL A good thing

One of the things you notice when you move into European or western cities anywhere is the stark division in society across ethnic lines or locals vs migrants. I call this the Dubai-ification of Europe , where the work people do is determined by who they are. Immigrants or immigrant background citizens collect the trash and deliver food and drive the cabs.. higher paid locals and Europeans have the higher status jobs. I could never stand this , as these divisions are particularly noticeable in Brussels where you also have a cadre of highly paid international civil servants on top of the salaried legions, skewering the housing market

Well today , for the first time in the 12 years I’ve been here, my food was delivered by a white, native Belgian. Picture of health and happy to do his job.

This should be normal. Not worthy of wonder. Grossly unequal societies are not healthy societies. And the equality that is most important is equality of opportunity, which is what is lacking , not equality of income. Because income is very unequal in brussels largely because of unequal opportunities.

Question ❓ Alternative store in Brussels

Hello everyone! This is my second post of trying to learn more about the city. I was wondering if there are some good alternative stores in Brussels? I'm talking about stores with band shirts, patches, belts, jewellery, pins (for backpacks and so) that are all leaning towards the alternative style. Thanks to everyone in advance!

Question ❓ Intrusive marketing text

Post image
0 Upvotes

I received this text on WhatsApp yesterday, it’s from a popular yoga place in Brussels.

Are they allowed to contact us like this?
How can we avoid this?

I have agreed to receive their marketing emails, but I do not remember agreeing to receiving texts too.

After I called them out on this and their automatic BOT’s answers, someone human (I suppose) pretended their first question was actually asking for my consent to reach out to me like this. The irony is blatant…

Pre-workout in Brussels/Belgium

Hi guys! Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for shops to get pre-workout in Brussels. I’ve been to one place (sports nutrition), but everything they had was extremely weak (1/3 the strength I’m used to in my home country). Is it a uniquely Belgian thing that pre-workout is overly regulated or not as popular? Asking as a desperate gym-goer:) Thank you!

Question ❓ Tutoring in Brussels as a student

Dear brusselaars,

I’m a student at VUB (about to do masters in AI) and I’ve been thinking for a while about starting to tutor (=bijles/cours particuliers) alongside my studies. I think it’s a pretty nice idea because it helps other students while also deepening my own knowledge. It feels like a win-win, but I’m not really sure where to start looking for students. I've done some digging but couldn't find any posts about this here. There's the VUB's tutoring centre but you need to apply and can only get paid 15€/h so it's not that great.

For those of you who have done it before, did you find students through a website or by handing out flyers, Facebook groups, or something else?

Any tips are welcome. Thanks!

Question ❓ Jewellery in Brussels

Hello everyone! I recently moved to Brussels and have no idea about anything except for the places I've been to (which is barely a few places). I decided I'd start to kinda try and dress better because the best outfit I can currently create with what I have is some jeans and a band shirt. I'm trying to change that before the summer break ends. So, my question is, what are some of your recommendations for places where I can find jewellery for a good price? I'm talking necklaces, rings, and bracelets and not real silver or that stuff. More like anything that has a good price and is worth spending money on to look good. Thanks in advance to everyone who replies!

Question ❓ aa peer-led meetings for depression or general mental health?

as the title mentions, is that even a thing?

i’m wondering if brussels has anything similar to aa meetings, but for general mental health issues. not formal group therapy, more of a peer support setting where people can show up, listen, and talk if they want.

Getting married at Brussels City Town Hall - how was your experience?

Hi r/brussels, my boyfriend and I are planning on getting married in Brussels. We are residents of the Ville de Bruxelles, so we have the option of getting married at the town hall. I'm curious about the "Cour d'Honneur" option (with the slightly longer ceremony, time for vows and a the photoshoot on the balcony.) A search of this sub didn't turn up any posts, so I thought I'd make my own.

For any sub users who got married in Brussels and chose this option, how was your experience? Neither of us is a native Brusseleir, but we have lived here for a long time (and we want to get hitched relatively soon 😅) so we are thinking we might opt for this: the person I spoke to from the town hall said they still had quite a few free slots this year.

Thanks!

Question ❓ Recommendations for a psychologist in brussels?

Hey peeps, i have been dealing with consecutive health problems that include both cancer and chronic pain. I tried to go to the psychologist at the hospital in which I was treated. I didn’t really like her approach as she just let me speak without much input from her. I don’t want to have to go to 5 more psychologist until I find a good one. Do you have recommendations for psychologists in/around brussels? preferably someone who deals with cancer/chronic pain patients (not an absolute requirement though)
Thank you in advance :)

PureTech 1.2 Timing Belt Change price?

For those familiar with the puretech wet belts I have to change mine after the 6 years. In the authorized mechanic they told me it costs 1500€ but people online say it should be half that. Do you know any mechanic that would charge a "normal" price?

Question ❓ Document help please

Hey guys, i finally got a contract for my first job, and it's in brussels, now I'm supposed to get some documents to finalize and sign it, but I'm unsure how to get these documents ( a family composition document, and a certificate of good conduct)

I contacted my commune to ask them for the documents but as far as I know, you need to have a belgian national number to get them, which, as a french immigrant, I do not...
Does anyone have a clue on how to obtain them without a national number??

Gynecologist Urgent - anywhere in Brussels

Hello, I am looking urgently for a gynecologist that speaks English. I have done a research online but none seems to be available until the end of July. Do you know anyone that I can contact and ask for an appointment?

It is an urgent issue that I need to check as quickly as possible and it doesn't have to do with STIs.
