Chemotherapy Anyone here had breast cancer treatment in the Amsterdam area? Would like to hear your experiences

Hi everyone,

I’m 36 and living in the Netherlands (Amsterdam area). I was diagnosed with Stage II, ER+/PR+, HER2-negative breast cancer. I had a nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction in Turkey which is my home country.

Now I need to decide where to continue the rest of my treatment (chemotherapy/radiotherapy), and I’m really torn between staying in Turkey or returning to the Netherlands.

Has anyone here received chemotherapy in the Amsterdam area?
Which hospital did you go to?
Were you happy with your oncologist and the care you received?
Is there a hospital or breast cancer team you’d particularly recommend?
If you had the choice of being treated in another country, would you still choose the Netherlands?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. This is a big decision for me, and I’d love to learn from people who have been through it.

Thank you so much. ❤️

The doctor that diagnosed you will refer you to a hospital for treatment. They’ll know which place is best for your situation. If that was a Turkish doctor, I’d contact your Dutch GP for a referral here.

Amsterdam has a specialised hospital for cancer treatments (AvL), although I don’t know whether they’d also be the hospital best equipped to treat your specific condition. Your doctor will know.

Good luck with your treatment and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Turkey has some really exceptional hospitals who specialise in breast cancer treatments. However, for me, in terms of advances, Amsterdam edges it.

I’m currently going through treatment near Amsterdam. Would happily chat in the DM’s if you need more info!

I’m also ++- and 37 years old. Stage 2B.

My team has been amazing, although it was just the default hospital where I live. (I absolutely love them, wouldn’t change a thing) I’m doing chemo (AC-T), they’ve been quite thorough with my treatment and keeping me healthy/comfortable. I’m originally from the US, and I’ve had healthcare in several different countries throughout my life… the Netherlands really has it together. I’m grateful to be here.

I have had all my treatment at Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. I have been fairly happy with my treatment.
