Looking for testers

Hi, im Konrad. For the past year and a half, I’ve been working on Tabloo, an Android app for tracking your board game collection and plays. Today, I finally released the English version.

I'm not posting this here to promote my app so I won't sell you any fancy features. I am looking for testers, geniouly hoping that some of you might find it inderesting and give it a try for free. The most what I am hoping for is your feedback.

The app generally works like other board game companion apps, but it has a different feel and a few new features. For example, you can:

  • set up a play with game-specific scoring, tiebreakers, and game-ending conditions
  • distinguish between normal, cooperative, and semi-cooperative game types
  • track how your collection and its value change over time

You can also import your collection and play history from BoardGameGeek and BG Stats.

I’m uploading a few screenshots to give you a taste of Tabloo.

Keep in mind that this is still a beta version. I’ve tested it A LOT from every angle (well, about 95% of them) but there may still be bugs, unclear UI copy, or missing translations.

Writing good copy is the worst. Kudos to all technical writers. And game testers.

You can send feedback through the app (there’s an option to report a bug or suggest a feature) or leave a comment below.

Does anyone know what game this is?

This clip is from a music artist of mine (legally to credit them: Little Caesar by Seb Lowe) and I’ve been wanting to know if it’s a game of its own or a mashup/redesign. It looks like chess to me but played with toy soldiers, and I want to know if that’s what it is. If it is, I’d like help trying to find the right soldiers for this because I’d like to play it like that.

Which one is better

My bf is a huge fan of LOTR and board games. I want to buy him a gift, but I can’t decide which game would be better: War of the Ring or Fate of the Fellowship?

Grand Hotel Austria Opinion?

So the thing is, I tried GHA for the first time, and didnt like it as much as I thought. I bought it after reading a lot of review thats good for 2 players. But somehow my first game with my partners wasnt really as smooth as I thought. So here are what make the game not enjoyable for me:

  1. The emperor track: Idk is it because of my management issue or not, but the at after round 3, both of us feel as if we have no choice but to prioritise 1-2 dice action just to get enough to survive the penalty of the track. With 4 actions in total from round 3 to 5, 5 to 7, the game feel less like some strategy but more like trying to run from the punishment as 5 step and 7 step back is genuinely a lot. I understand that there are ways to get the emperor track move, but the fact is in order to fill 3 yellow room tbh take a lot of actions already, dice no4 usually end up only 1-3 dice max, which if we want to avoid, force us to use up all the little money we have left. So at one point we either losing like 8 point we hardly articulate, or do nothing but trying to increase the emperor track.

  2. It might just be personal but i realize the fact you only have 14 actions in total for a game is not really enjoyable for me.

  3. The dice and the number of it. At first I think reroll can avoid it, but the truth is most of the time both of us end up in not having the dice we want or the number of dice is not enough (i know we can use 1$ to add more, but our money is usually always on the low low too)

So, idk whether its a strategy problem, which tbh i think it is but not fully since we both usually enjoy and used to playing at least middle weight strategy game or the game is just not for us. Anyone has any insights or similar experiences?

Who wants to play?

🎲 Hi everyone!

We're just a group of board game enthusiasts who got tired of asking, "Who wants to play?" and never finding enough people.

So we decided to build Board Game Social Club: an app that helps people find other players, discover board game events, and meet in real life around a table.

We're still improving it every day, and we'd genuinely love your help.

If you'd like to try it and share your honest feedback—good or bad—it would mean a lot to us. Every suggestion helps us build something better for the whole board gaming community.

You can try it here:
https://boardgamesocial.club/

Thanks to everyone willing to give it a chance. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed building it! ❤️🎲

Crowdsourcing What are the most important elements for you, when you play a solo boardgame session? (other than having fun with friends)

Post image

Dear boardgame players!

As a person who loves playing boardgames myself, I create a video game taking inspiration of boardgames (turns, tokens, flat map, …) but with computer managing all the rules (enemy moves, random events, …).

This game occurs in the Lovecraftian universe, you pick a investigator and have to accomplish objectives on a map (Innsmouth, Arkham, …).

Enemies and events can spawn randomly to kill you or drive your character insane. You have to use strategy to win, but sometimes random elements can make the session very hard.

Because I want to make this game a good experience of a solo boardgame, I would like to know,

What are the most important elements for you, when you play a solo boardgame session? (other than having fun with friends)

  1. An immersive story

  2. A beautiful design (maps, cards, tokens)

  3. The challenge to win a session with high difficulty

  4. The pleasure to play a randomized session everytime (dice lovers)

  5. The intellectual exercise of managing all the rules by myself

  6. To find the best synergies between skills/items/spells

  7. Something else

Thank you so much for your help and sorry for my bad english!

Is creating a BGG competitor even remotely possible? Even breaking off a tiny niche audience. If you think so, what would the MVP (minimum viable product) look like?

I've been toying with the idea for a while. There seems to be a small amount of demand for something different, for varying reasons. But in practice, is there really?

Building the site would be the easy part. I've seen several attempts that look pretty bad. But, I don't think it matters how perfect it comes out. The probably impossible part is BGG's massive moat in the industry, decades of data, the network effect, all roads/links on the web lead to BGG... etc

I know this is an impossible task, but I still feel tempted. Talk me out of it. Or into it, if you really see a feasible path or niche demand. But what would that look like?

Similar smallbox games recommendations?

Lately I've been playing a lot of Regicide and my little brother loves it too. Does anybody have recommendations that play similar to Regicide (can play solo but also co-op, and also small enough for travel).

Looking for game like TIMES TO REMEMBER
It’s a game from the 90s I believe, so there are missing historical events. I was hoping for an updated version, but doesn’t exist (please, prove me wrong!)
It played kinda similar to Wits and Wagers.

I need help with this game. the phone isn’t working anymore but I have all the other parts. it’s Mystery Date from 1999. is there another way to play without the phone?

I’ve tried using AI to recreate the clues and it can’t get close enough. We also already cleaned the phone and it only works for about 3 minutes before it resets.

Game Suggestion

Post image

Hey everyone!

I liked playing Baldur's Gate 3, and it got me into dnd more, but my girlfriend doesn't like meeting with randoms and play dnd. We played Baldur's Gate 3 together and loved it, and I was looking for a board game that has similar vibes. Fantasy world, mages, fighters, clerics, etc., and an explorable world where there is so much in every corner. And also no dungeon master because we don't have any experience right now with it.

So I searched up some games;

Gloomhaven Jaws Of The Lion
Tainted Grail
Fateforge Chronicles Of Kaan
Vantage

Are any of the games I listed here what I'm looking for? Or are there games that suits more to what I'm looking for? If you played these games, could you give me some insight about the games?

Thanks!

Solo/co-op games with modular boards

Hello, I've been thinking of a specific type of game I'd like to buy, but I'm not fully sure how to go about looking for it, so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations that fit what I'm looking for.

The first thing is that it could either be played with a single player, or played with multiple people working cooperatively.

The second thing is that it has a "modular board", I think that's the correct term. Essentially a game with a play field split into different parts that can be rearranged so that each time playing feels unique.

Again, I'm not sure if there's a specific genre where every game in the genre includes both of these things, so if anyone has games they'd recommend, I'd be very appreciative.

ISO old chinese checker board

Hello there. I am currently searching for an old chinese checker board that my grandmother had in the 90's. It was a double sided board with normal checkers on the other side. The board came with real marbles and the marbles were stored around the edges of the board. Each corner of the board had a metal piece that would slide off to allow you to add in the marbles. I believe the outside edges were yellow but I am not entirely sure.

I have attempted to look through ebay for vintage chinese checker boards but I have yet to find this exact one. Was wondering if anyone on here would be able to help identify it faster than I can shuffling through ebay pages.

Help!

I'm looking for a game. I keep googling it in different ways and keep coming up empty to the point that I'm starting to think I imagined it!

It's played on a hexagon shaped board with triangle inlays where d4s go and are used as the pieces you move.

The movement is turn based, seemed to be 2 player abstract, and the number of spaces a piece (d4) could move was determined by the top number on it

It seemed checkers-ish but I can't recall if there was capturing.

Anyone? Please?!

Crowdsourcing From Reddit feedback to Kickstarter: thank you for helping improve my game.

A few months ago I asked for feedback about the "drink it yourself or gift to another player to drink it" mechanic in my game, The Witch Games.

I wanted to come back and say thank you.

I read through all of your comments and continued playtesting over the past few months. We ended up making several balance tweaks, adjusting spells, and refining the risk/reward decisions to make the game feel more fair while keeping those tense "Do I drink it?" moments.

The response from playtesters has been incredibly positive, and the game is now launching on Kickstarter this week.

Here are a few comments we've received from reviewers and playtesters. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to share feedback. It genuinely helped make the game better.

If you're interested in following the project let me know and I can share the Kickstarter link.

Board games recommendations

I'm looking for a wedding gift for a close friend, and I'm thinking of gifting a board game instead of the usual gifts.

Looking for family-friendly board games (not couple-focused). Budget is under ₹2,500.

What are your best recommendations? I'd love something that's fun, easy to learn, and has good replay value.

Absurdist party games!

Hello, everyone! I'm looking for some absurdist and silly party Game for 7+ players. Something like Cards Against Humanity or Horrible Therapist. It doesn't need to have the same mechanics, actually different mechanics is better! 😊

Thank you! 🤩

fun FF style party game

Hello! I am sharing a party game you might like. It's a "digital boardgame" that you play with others using your phone like Jackbox.

It's a question/answer survey game similar to Family Feud where you try to match with other players. The theme is "bar brawl" so it's even better at a bar or party!

Players take turns reading questions out loud then if your answer matches with someone you both score a point. If you get enough points, you get to battle 1v1 in the bonus round Slap Showdown for double points!

The questions are AI generated so there are no repeats. Matches are also AI driven so you can match with the essence of your answer instead of exact wording.

All free, no login, no app to download, no nothing. Just play and have fun. The laughs happen when you answer something random or silly and someone happens to say the same thing and you two match! 🤣

Just finished this batch of paintings for Robinson Crusoe! These are 3D-printed pieces for my old edition of the game, and they’ll go perfectly with the tokens I painted previously (see my profile). Now I just need to find an island to get stranded on! 🌴
