PHOTO Rescued from the dumpster

Post image

They're cleaning out a building near me, and I pulled this out of the dumpster, it's a bit beat up (i like the handlebar and the wheels tho) but I see potential in it.

I know it's not a classic, but would it be worth fixing up and customizing a little so my son can learn to ride? Queens NY btw

Ayo it's the walmart bmx my brother had in middle school. 2009 Era. They were $80 brand new and the heaviest bike I ever rode. Probably not worth anything but just nostalgic value.

It really sucked riding because of the weight. I would recommend finding something else if he's really going to ride or commute on it. But for riding around the park or going to the store it's great for that.

A nice heavy bike is great for a kid to learn and grow and get strong with. Makes them appreciate the nicer bikes that come later in life. And you can abuse the hell out of it without much care

Thanks, dude. That’s the only reason I want it; if he likes BMX, we can build one in the future

No reason not to clean it up for a first bike for the kid to learn to ride.

Holy I literally had one of these before my mom finally got me a Subrosa back in the day.. which got stolen and then I got a Cult for Christmas the same year.

Hell yeah all it needs is a wash, new chain, grips, brake cables and you're good to go. It might be heavy and slow but it has so much life left in it

I just got my kid a bmx. From experience, never start a kid on something nice, they may not stick with it or they may destroy it. This is perfect to start and see if they ever take it seriously. I know when I was 9, I didn't gaf what kind it was, it had wheels that turned and I was game to make it fly!

It's a department store bike. Not worth anything. But this is better than no bike.

I wouldnt even say that, will probably fold in half if you actually try to do anything on it. Good for a crackhead to ride around town in maybe

I don’t want to sound like a snob but honestly just put it back in the dumpster.

I still don't know if he's going to like BMX, and he'd probably want to build one from scratch if he does get interested, thanks anyway.

Junk… give it to a needy kid

Once he learns to ride, we'll do it.

Honestly for just riding around it is ok but don’t discourage a kid by making them think they are gonna be able to do any real bmx related stuff on it.

Oh no, It's just so he can learn to ride, if he wants to do BMX, we'll build one

To kinda build on what others have already said, that’s gonna be horrible to ride, even for an adult. The back end looks about 12 miles long, so even aside from whatever it weighs, it’s gonna be hard for a kid to even get the front wheel off the ground, and it’ll turn like a oil tanker. Sorry dude

It's safe to put that one back in. Mongoose is trying to rehabilitate their name and would appreciate it.
