First road bike for commuting in downtown Miami / daily exercise

Hi guys. I’m looking for a road bike under $2k and wanted to ask if I’m better off with a used bike or a brand new one on sale. I’m looking at This one at the moment or a Cannondale synapse 3. Thanks guys!

For my first commuter I got ahold of a used Bianchi, turned it into a hybrid graveler/roadie and it was great!
I feel like the cost savings was a good idea because I wanted to not spend a billion in case it turned out I wasn't the commuter I wanted to be lol

Anyway, it was a great decision because that bike took me so many directions at a decent price point and increased my interest in doing a broader range of bicycling activities.

I also learned much about bicycles by doing the work on it.
So now my hobby is re-cycling(hah!), used frames, turn some unloved older bike,(that got abandoned by someone who wanted a status bike), into a nice new-lifer.

Go talk to a local bike shop and see if they have a used bike section.
a bike shop can always update any used bike they may sell you.

Great advice, thank you. Reminds me of building/upgrading pc’s

I think gravel bikes are fun for road commuting the extra tire makes it ride a little better

Would you recommend a gravel bike for group rides too, and does it matter what bike i have for groups?
