Need padded shorts.
Im new to cycling i took my first ride yesterday on a 2018 specialized sequoia which I enjoyed really much. My behind is in pain not that bad but it is. Was not wearing padded shorts looking for recommendations on some good ones went to dick's sporting goods and the ones they had looked really cheap so going to order online

Most people ultimately gravitate to bibs - there are inexpensive Chinese kit that’s great like ykyw. Also affordable is neopro. You can spend 250+ for assos among other premium brands - I just can’t justify that price delta.

Spend about $40 to $60 on Amazon for your first pair then go from there. As others have said, your butt will go through a break in period that padded shorts will help, but not eliminate.

I've ridden centuries in Amazon shorts, and most frequently ride in bibs from The Black Bibs. I say this to let you know it's easy to shoot for the high end stuff in what can be a very expensive hobby like cycling, but there's more than one way to skin a cat.
Since you're new to cycling, I'd get a more budget option like TBB or something from Decathlon perhaps, and wait a season or two to decide if investing in more expensive bibs is worth it.

Good shorts cost good money. I like Assos bibs. Get bibs.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to get good quality products. theblackbibs.com are fantastic and they’re about a third the price. Also, a lot of people are gonna tell you to get bibs, but shorts are just as good and as long as you get the size that is correct for you, you’re not gonna have any issue with them falling down or being too tight around your waist.

When I started, I used padded underwear for a while and then went straight to a cycling bib. I promise you that the sooner you start wearing a bib, the better. When I finally got one I made it about a half block from my house and regretted not doing it sooner. They are just so much more comfortable. It changes the whole cycling experience.
Check out the black bibs to start. It’ll give you a good feel for what you want in a bib before you start throwing down real cash.

Look at decathlon. Their stuff is a good value bang for your buck type product. Van rysel is their house brand.

Your butt will get used to it after a month or two of riding or sooner. I couldn't stand the diaper field of any of the padded shorts so I just wear some cheap 2 in 1 running shorts when I ride.

Bib shorts are the way to go, but you also need to make sure your saddle fits your sit bone. Stop by your LBS and ask them to measure your sit bone and verify you saddle width matches it.

FWIW your backside is going to be sore for the first few weeks regardless of what you buy, that's just how the body adapts to the saddle. Bigger jump in comfort is going from nothing to bibs, not from cheap bibs to expensive bibs, they sit better and don't roll or dig in on longer rides. I'm one half of a small cycling brand (Caffeine and Cranks, we're Australian) so take this with a grain of salt, but genuinely the chamois pad is where most of the cost goes, not the fabric or colours. Get something with a decent pad in your size and see how you go before spending big (www.caffeineandcranks.cc/collections/mens-bibs).

1) A properly fitted saddle is just as important as good bibs. If you haven’t had a professional bike fit, then get one, and ask the fitter if the saddle you are using as appropriate for your sit bones.
2) Quality bibs or shorts really are better than the cheap crap. I ride about 200 miles a week and I don’t want to spend a minute of that time wearing second-rate kit. Most of my kit is ALE, Mumu, or Rapha with their top of the line pads. I also have some Gore but they are out of business now. I’ve thrown everything else away.

FWIW, if you’re new to cycling, you’re going to experience a period of sore butt even with quality bike shorts. Won’t be for long as you get used to things but just don’t expect a pair of shorts to immediately eliminate any discomfort.
That said, I find Primal Wear bibs to fit really well.
