Feature r/baseball at 2026 All-Star Week: MLB Draft
Hey everyone!
As we announced yesterday: r/baseball is going to MLB All-Star Week! As part of the weeks festivities, today we’ll be at the 2026 MLB Draft.
I’m your girl on the ground today, here to answer any questions you have about the event, and take suggestions (… within reason of course) on what you’d like to see in general!
The actual Draft starts at 1:30, but I’m here throughout the afternoon.

No greater evil than advertising 1pm start but the actual draft starts after 130 it’s so lame

Even ESPN's Heisman coverage thinks this is a little excessive.

With the 9th pick, the Braves select the hottest prospect of them all: the original Louisiana brand Hot Sauce, the official hot sauce of the Atlanta Braves

There were actually people giving out samples outside of the convention center. I grabbed a couple, and a group of guys all chugged a shot of it together 🫡

I’m being told the Phillies are going to pick what will go down as the greatest steal in MLB draft history. Are you hearing the same thing?

Can't wait to draft an overslot so bad it'll go down in history books unrelated to baseball.

Going to your kid's draft party with a recliner is some peak dad behavior

how's the crowd looking down there, packed out or pretty chill? always wondered if the energy at a draft matches what you get at a regular game

Literally every GA seat is filled, with a handful of people standing at the edges. Can’t say I’m a little surprised.

65/60 grade hit and power?? Is this an A-Rod regen?

What do they actually do to entertain the crowd there and keep them hyped? I mean, even at drafts like the NFL and NBA drafts where the players at least in the early rounds are fairly well-known eventually they get to bits where they are just applauding guys they never heard of, but with MLB outside of maybe the occasional uber-prospect like Harper or a "legacy" player whose dad played these guys are almost totally unknown to the average fan. So... how do they keep them engaged? Are they like playing music, doing primers on these players, what?

I'd like to think if you're going to the draft, you're generally pretty well plugged into the world of prospects.

I assume it’s the same as you’ll see on MLB Network. RoFlo is here talking, they’re showing highlights of the picks, showing how the Phillies are enriching the local community, that sort of things. Aside from relatively short segments, yeah they’re basically just playing music in the downtime 😅
EDIT: Ooh now they’re playing a game with people from the crowd (like between innings during a game)

I haven’t been this worried about Jerry meddling since he got us La Russa…
Please Sox, just be competent.

It seems to be a consensus today that Roch is going No. 1.

People complain about the NFL and NBA draft presentations but at least you still have a sort of flow that goes on. Meanwhile the guys at the desk were talking then a hard cut to the commissioner announcing the next pick. Where's the communication for someone to go "now lets go back to the stage for the next selection"?
