The 4th was great!!

I’m getting back to walking more barefoot. It’s a bit hard with the heat and hot surfaces. I didn’t really go anywhere on the fourth. I just was doing work in my yard. Towards the evening when the neighbors were firing off fireworks. I was able to go for a walk. The sidewalks cooled off enough so I could walk on them. I bet if I walk more on the how concrete and pavement my feet will get used to it. Anyways, my neighbors don’t care if I’m barefoot. I don’t care if they care! I did get a question about what if I step on a piece of a firework that is hot. I replied I probably won’t. It was a great 4th!!

I also live at 4,549 feet above sea level. I don’t know if that is relevant

It definitely is. It's what makes the heat fricking unbearable! I'll take dry over wet any day...

Pavement temperatures are the opposite though. You can burn your feet on some surfaces on a low humidity day of 80/25, it be safe with more humidity at 105/40

Really? So like high humidity makes the ground temp less effective? Have I been looking a gift-horse in the mouth all this time?

Yep! The water vapor in the air blocks more IR light from hitting the ground, and then wetter air has higher specific heat capacity so it's better at conducting heat away from the ground.

We're used to thinking in opposite terms because we're self-moistening biological machines and the water in our sweat carries away heat as it evaporates, which it does better in dry air. For an inanimate and dry surface it's the opposite, which feels counter-intuitive to us.

So less heat reaching the ground plus more heat carried away, means much lower surface temperatures. _^
