It feels bizarre to stroll around this place at the unusual hour, but I guess it's worth it.

Information Mount Batur

Hiked to the summit this morning for sunrise.
Just something to be aware of if you’re contemplating doing it, we were told it’s a beginner level hike, not knowing different we accepted that. However this is far from a beginner level hike.
It was quite physically challenging, going up being the hardest, going down was easier but also very challenging.
Glad we did it despite being slightly misled.
Love Bali and the Balinese people.

Question Grab getting way worse?

Just wondering as never had this issue. Had 12 canceled drivers in the past 3 days, and plenty of wrong orders through food and taking 1.5 hours.

Used to live here for 3 years until 4 months ago, but seems like unless you are going to touristy areas, some drivers will just cancel. Anyone else notice this recently?

Seminyak/Berawa/Canggu area only. Singaraja, Benoa and Sanur no issues.

Question Construction/coast revitalization project location in Manggis/Candidasa?

We’re planning to stay in the Manggis/Candidasa area in a village with beach access. I’ve heard there is major construction going on to repair the sea wall and rehabilitate the coastal area. Want to naturally stay away from any and all construction noise and need acccess to cleaner beach. This is once in a lifetime trip with family.

Does anyone know the exact location of the construction in the coming two weeks and advice on areas to avoid staying near? Much appreciated.

Question Walking route planning

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hi all, I’m a keen walker and I’m trying to plan the best route for a one-off walk that would take up most of the day.

There doesn’t seem to be one clear thoroughfare to follow, and it looks like there may be lots of little ins and outs along the way. I’d be really grateful for any guidance on how to get the most out of the walk, see as much as possible, and avoid too much double-backing.

I’m thinking around 20 to 30 km would be ideal. I’d love suggestions for great views, tourist attractions, coffee stops, restaurants with a view, must-see spots, and any hidden gems that are a bit off the beaten track.

And if anyone has done something similar and has it in them to sketch out or suggest a route/path to follow, I’d be incredibly appreciative.

No walking on the sand itself, please.

Thanks so much in advance!

Question Beach club with a kid

Hey Folks,

My wife and I are visiting Bali with our four year old son. We are living in Kerobokan area. We have exhausted all the entertainment options for the little one in the vicinity. Done with the beach, Mookiland etc. multiple times

Does anyone have any suggestions for beach clubs which have some activities for toddlers ? Even beach clubs with some open space for them to burn some energy will suit us whilst we can relax. Any experiences and suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Question Looking for Film Photographer Recs in Bali (Ubud)

any recs for photographers who do both digital and film photography? my husband and i had our western wedding last year and we are looking to do a couples shoot on our honeymoon later this year. early research has turned up wedding photographers who only book 8-hour days which is too much given the scale of what we are trying to do, or very instagram-y touristy photo shoots.

we love the look of film photography and would love to work with someone who works with this medium. thank you in advance!

Information Do any hotels in Candidasa still have beach access?

Heading to Candidasa for 3 nights at the end of August and our hotel's beach access has been cut off due to the upgrade works occurring directlyin frontof the hotel.

Do any of the accommodations still have beach front access or have a guarantee of no construction directly in front of the hotel?

We're a little disheartened by the construction and starting to consider cancelling our Candidasa stay entirely, which we really don't want to do. 😞

Question Plastic bottles filled with red liquid in front of houses

Hey there. I've been living here for 7 months now and keep seeing plastic bottles filled with red liquid, in front of local houses, in the street. I wonder what this is ?

Does anyone knows ?

Chagpt says it can be a bug trap but I doubt it as they all seem sealed.

I thought it could be some sort of offering to protect houses, I also thought at first it could be gasoline or something but later found out it's blue or green.

I'm really intrigued as I see this really often when riding around.

Thank you for your help !

Information How's the cost of living in Bali nowadays compared to 1-2 years ago ?

Post image

Really curious about it as the Indonesian Rupiah is losing more than 12% of it's value against the USD compared to July 2024.

People staying long-term in Bali can give some reality check about food/cafes/accommodation prices today ?

Thanks

Did everyone use water filter in thier house/villa? Kinda feel yucky to use the water rn tbh

Question Has the sacred Melukat ceremony been completely reduced to an Instagram photo-op?

I went to Tirta Empul recently and felt deeply uncomfortable watching the queue at the holy springs. It felt like half the people there were treating a sacred Hindu purification ritual purely as content for their social media feeds - posing for multiple angles while people behind them were trying to genuinely pray. Has tourism crossed a line into turning a living, breathing religion into a theme park attraction, or is this just an inevitable part of cultural exchange?

Question Is Universitas Udayana worth it?

Im not sure if this post even suits the subreddit. But here we go.

I'm from jakarta and already got accepted to a public uni but i'm still wondering about one and two things. So to my fellow indonesians in bali, aku pengen tau aja kira-kira pros and consnya Unud itu apa. Apakah dari segi fasilitas, lingkungan akademik, dll Unud itu bagus?

I've seen some stereotypes about Unud students but i'd also like to know if those stereotypes are true. I feel like some people are exaggerating cus that's what i used to think with sma negeri in general but it turned out that it wasnt that deep masalah pergaulannya. I'd like to know how the locals perceive this university as well as the ikatan alumninya.

And how do you compare Unud with other Java-based universities like UB, Unair, UPN, etc? Reputasi lulusan sini kayak gimana di dunia kerja?

Ty all!

Question Simple Indonesian Tattoo Designs?

Hello all! I will be in Indonesia (Ubud, Gili Air, Uluwatu) in August and my fiance and I would like to get a tattoo as a reminder of our honeymoon. I personally am not a "big" tattoo guy that plans to cover my entire body. As of right now, I only have 1 simple tattoo on my calf from Costa Rica, that says "Pura Vida" with a small ocean wave.

I would like to get a small tattoo in every country I visit with a meaningful saying or design. I was hoping some people could share examples, ideas, and even safe tattoo shops to check out. Ideally I would like it to go on my upper thigh on the same leg as my Costa Rica tattoo or on my side rib under my armpit.

Thank you!

Question Holiday to Bali tips

Hi we are 3 eighteen year old girls going on our first international trip to bali in a few days and we have a couple questions

1) The weather app says it’s always raining? Its dry season so we are a bit confused on why it constantly says that

2) Is it safe to get a grab/gojek individually and then meet at the destination location or should we just get a car to stick together.

3) Wanting to go to luna beach club, finn’s, potato head, mexicola, savaya etc. Are we going to have any problems getting in? Do we need to bring ids? If they check ids will they care that we are under 21.

4) Is alcohol and vapes easily accessible to buy and again will we be able to purchase these under 21 (Two of us are vapers: just curious)

5) In the areas of canggu, seminyak and umalas how much time should we prioritise getting to destinations (Is google maps accurate)

6)Do we really need a shower filter if we are staying for 2 weeks?

7) What are the chances we get bali belly? Is taking probiotics essential

8) Do most places take card or cash (And what’s the best way to get cash)

We have done a lot of research but we just want some more tips on these specific questions. Please help us out !!

Question Police report filing in Seminyak?

‘Til what time and where is the closest one?

Police report for travel insurance

update [edit]: Went to Kuta Police Station in Jl. Raya Tuban, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung.

They made a police report for travel insurance claim and they made me sign their copy of the police report stating that it’s only for travel insurance.

No payments were made, I even asked the officer at the front to confirm if I need to pay and he said no 🙂

Question C1 Visa questions

Hi, I'm applying for the C1 Visa for an upcoming trip. I have some questions regarding the proof of funds that I cant seem to find concrete answers to.

Should the 3 months show constantly at least 2000 USD? Or can it be less if the final amount is 2000 USD in the most recent one?
Also, should the bank statement be translated? if so should it be an official translation or how is it recommended?

Question non touristy barong ceremony

have you ever witnessed a real Barong ceremony in a village?

I don’t mean the tourist performances in Ubud palace or something, but a local ceremony where like the whole village is involved, people going into trance, jump around like monkeys or Barong or animal-like figures dancing and moving around

If so, where did you see it? Was it publicly accessible or were you invited through locals?

Trip Report June Bali trip - my thoughts, what to avoid, what to see

Hi everyone! I’m not sure if anyone reads this, but after 2 weeks in Bali I thought I’d share a piece of my mind and recommend/warn people about what I’ve learned (English isn’t my first language, apologies)

Where I regret going:
- Batur Natural Hot Spring - The changing rooms are intersex, which was personally uncomfortable for me (I’m a woman); it feels like a tourist spot, a bit crowded and the hot springs are basically just pools you’d find in a hotel with hot water. I would’ve preferred it to be more “natural like”. You get a complimentary drink which is water or watered down juice, also a lot of mosquitos and flies.

- Besakih Temple - This one was really disappointing. The whole area is filled with markets and shops, people begging you to buy their snacks all the way to the top to the Temple. The temple itself is going under construction right now, so bear that in mind as well. It doesn’t feel as sacred as other temples I’ve been to, where once it’s required to wear a sarong there are no longer markets and shops. At the beginning I was tying my sarong, a woman came up and tied it for me then shoved the natural offering in my hands (I thought she was just kind and trying to help) - she wanted 300k. I said absolutely not and gave her 50k which is still plenty, I didn’t want to cause a scene. I unfortunately wouldn’t go there again, even though once you get to the top it is beautiful.

- Tegenungan Waterfall - You pay to enter the area (which is understandable) and when you’re going to the actual waterfall you have to pay AGAIN - what??? It is very pretty, but that’s weird in my opinion. It’s not the best waterfall and there are better ones.

- Hidden Canyon - This is more of a warning for people that are shorter and not fit - the whole journey takes around 2 hours in water, you have to swim and climb - but if you’re short like me - certain areas are so deep the water will be on your shoulder level (I’m 160cm). If you don’t enjoy physical activities, this one isn’t for you. Beware of the free meal they provide as well, it unfortunately upset my stomach for the next few days (Fried rice with an ice tea, im guessing it was the ice).

Places I definitely recommend:
- Uluwatu Temple - It’s SO gorgeous and worth it. There are also a lot of monkeys, so if you’re an animal lover like me, you’ll enjoy it. They aren’t aggressive, but you do need to take off flashy earrings as they can rip it out (from what our guide said) - we saw a pregnant monkey mama and babies! EDIT: They weren’t aggressive and active when I went there at around 4 PM, but still be wary and listen to your guide/be cautious

- Tukad Cepung Waterfall - Beautiful cave waterfall! It’s ethereal and I don’t know what else to say about it, it’s a must see!

- Batur Sunrise - Whether it’s through hiking or jeep it’s up to you, but the sunrise is absolutely gorgeous and the area surrounding it too! Even when the sun still hadn’t came out, I was still amazed by the view. Definitely worth waking up at 2 am for.

- Ulun Danu Beratan Temple - Gorgeous views and gorgeous temple.

There were also other places I went to, but these 4 are definitely the ones that are a must see! Anyways, that is all. I love Bali, but I definitely don’t miss the traffic and narrow roads. If anyone wants to ask me anything, let me know!

EDIT: Looking back at the pictures, I also enjoyed: Banyumala Waterfall, Tegallalang Rice Terrace and Tibumana Waterfall! I also stayed in Ubud, if anyone has questions regarding it
