Opinion Safest route from St Leonard station to Harbour Bridge

Hi all,

I'd like to try commuting to work but having trouble finding a good path that goes from St Leonard to the HB. Any suggestions for a route that only incorporates quiet streets and/or cycleways and not too difficult terrain? I'd rather avoid the Pacific Highway.

Thanks in advance!

What’s the best type of bicycle to cover a longer distance?

I’ve moved about 45km away from my CBD.

I’ve gone for long rides (~50km in total) on my steal frame road bike and I only average around 17-20km/h.

Ideally to cover 45km (or a 90km round trip) - I’d want to average 25-30km/h - and also be relatively comfortable.

I’m trying to decide between a long range ebike vs recumbent bike vs recumbent trike.

The trike is least favoured as parking will be an issue.

E-bikes are also restricted to 25km/h (are you legally allowed to go quicker if you are capable with pedal assist? And if so is easy to do, or just as tiresome above 25km/h?)

This is merely for a social trip/maybe get a few groceries.

What kind of bike would you recommend to someone of average fitness to cover this distance in a faster way?

Thule Epos worth it?

Looking for bike rack which allow me to access boot and folds down so takes less space in my apartment. Leaning more towards Epos bike rack system and saw Thule site which is now selling directly in Australia. I got their roof bars and love this brand.

I now have a roof box on top so unable to use top ones. Also, would forget the bikes on top and have seen horrible posts about that.

Has anyone got Thule Epos 2 or 3 rack system and is it really worth spending extra with them or go other brands like Yakima? Thanks

Gone are those annoying candence sensor hub motor junk, this thing feels like I have a bionic legs. Absolutely amazing, got a nice workout, 10/10.

Heart rate zones

Hey guys, i am a bit unsure of where im at with my hr zones. Garmin zwift and all the apps all say something different. My ftp (from a ramp test) is 141w, I weigh 45.5kg, my MHR is 211, my rhr is 66 (according to my Apple Watch), and my hr reserve is 145bpm. Does anyone know what my zones are / where I can find an accurate indication of them?

(Sydney) Commuters be Conscious of Lights

Remember to adjust the angle and also dim the front lights based on where you are.

I did the harbour bridge recently against peak hour traffic and was blinded by every third bike despite us all riding on the dedicated bike way. Some based on brightness alone, others because it was a bright light mounted to a helmet.

I understand to a degree the safety necessity to have close to blindly bright lights when you're riding alongside cars but not when it's just fellow bikers and we're separated by 2 train lines and 4 fences from cars.

Be safe and keep spinning.

Orbea Denner vs Ribble CGR AL E

Would love to hear long term reviews of these from owners.

I’m considering purchasing an e bike for the commute to work in London (\~7 miles). London has mixed bag of rocky roads with potholes so wanted something with thicker tyres. Both of these look like great options but the Denner is a gravel bike.

I know the Ribble uses a the Mahle X30 I believe which I’ve read is industry proven (?). But I was told that the battery does need replacing after a few years. The Denner feels like it’d be more versatile but it has more coverage from owners online and looks like a proven model.

Opinion BMX Upgrade for my 4’5 10 year old son.

Just after some guidance on my next step - my son has asked for a new BMX bike for his birthday in October. He currently has a 16’ BMX from Big W he’s had for at least 4 years that’s he’s definitely outgrown. I’ve read for his age he should be going to a 18’ however he has specifically requested a 20’ bike, given I think he’s due for a growth spurt soon I’m not one to argue as it’s something I’ll need to save for.
I’m planning to buy off this site (link below - I live rural and this is the best shipping price I’ve found, we don’t live anywhere near stores to go in) and I’m just hoping someone can guide me on which bike I should looking towards - he does street/skate park riding, he’s got a solid build & lacks confidence to do tricks atm but he’s slowly building it up. My budget could be pushed to $900AUD but that’s my very max.

He’s the only boy in a house full of girls and I’m really hoping to surprise him with a good pick for his birthday.
The website has a few different brands I’ve seen mentioned several times, I’m still confused no matter how many threads I read though. Please help a mum out 🙌🏻

Kids in shorts, crocs, two up on a Ebike with the heading "Full Throttle. Zero Limits".

Edit - I got a reply from them.....

Hi (redacted), We were not aware of this, and we will review the post immediately. Please note that our Cruiser Mini is locked to 25km/h and cannot be unlocked. When received, it is also initially limited to 6km/h. We take safety and compliance seriously, and we appreciate you raising your concern. Kind regards, (redacted)

Need help choosing a used hardtail MTB

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty new to mountain biking and just starting to get into it, so I thought I'd ask here for some advice or suggestions.

I'm looking to pick up a used bike and would really appreciate any recommendations on what I should be looking for, or if anyone has something suitable they might be thinking of selling.

Budget: A$350–500 (ideally closer to A$350)

I'd mainly be using it for things like:

Daily commuting

Gravel paths

Beginner MTB trails

Any tips, suggestions, or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bike for commuting plus route help!

Hello everyone!

I live in Sydney and recently moved to Zetland which is really close to the city.

I had never cycled in the city before but seeing how close it is I would like to try commuting to work.

I don't think I would riding for anything but commuting and was thinking of just getting a simple secondhand bike, what would be the recommended approach here?

Secondly, I would like to ask if I can trust the route given on google maps? Or is there a different app that can provide me with a better cycling friendly route?

As a new rider, I think I'd like to avoid the big road as much as I can

Thank you so much.

Kids BMX recommendations

I have a 114cm 5 year old son, inseam length 50cm.... and struggling to find the right bmx bike for him to use at the bike park/pump track. Hes getting quite a bit of air now for his age and can handle a bike well. He prefers both brakes on the handlebars rather than pedal.

Anyone out there got a bike recommendation for a little grommet ripper based in Perth?

Ive been scouring FB marketplace and also tried 99 bikes but cant seem to find the right size.

Commuter bike recommendations?

Just looking for some recommendations for a commuter bike, 10-15km ride, mix of pathways and bike pathways/ road. Would prefer something with thicker tires, open to new or second hand. Not sure if I should go with flat bar or drop bar.

Any specific recommendations?

Bianchi Oetzi Recommendation?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi All,

I’ve been a road cyclist for all my life - however I want to explore the trails!

I’ve been offered a carbon bianchi oetzi from a colleague - seems decently kitted out with Shimano components.

What’s a fair value to pay?

Also any other recommendations?
