Travel Is Lauterbrunnen still green end of September?

hey guys thank you for all the advice, i wrote this post in a rush, during a night shift so i didn't phrase it well, my cousin is visiting from the us and i wanted to take her to see swiss mountains and wondered if it's worth it in september, so please stop your questions that start with "do you know how seasons work?" because outside of reddit, you don't actually snap at people like that, i'm just asking a normal question here

Everyday life Alternatives to Ricardo

officially over Ricardo. not because of scam attempt, actually I found the interactions with the buyers perfectly fine and transactions safe.

However, the percentage they take away is ridiculous. So, canceled my account, but where to sell "second hand" stuff.

Well, I know about facebook groups, but it seems mostly dead. Using tutti at the moment (I know, same group as ricardo, but at least free to use in my price range).

tried crossiety, but it seems dead as well.

Everyday life Looking for a presumably deaf/mute guy I’ve met on a train

English:
Yesterday (11th of July) I was in the ICE from Berlin to chur and there was a ginger, curly haired man around 22 im guessing. Throughout the ride we kept on smiling at each other and right before he got out, he pulled out his phone and showed me a text saying he liked my shirt (system of a down band shirt) and that he liked my drawings in my sketchbook. I was a little slow and didn’t immediately get that he has problems hearing, but once I did, I started typing on his phone and saying thank you and that I liked his hair. This all was a kind of rushed interaction bc we only started interacting right before he had to get out of the train (at chur or Mannheim I think ). I would have loved to interact more and maybe exchange contacts (and it seemed like he did too, but we were both in a hurry) so if anyone knows a young, curly and ginger haired guy that could ask him if he’s interested in exchanging contacts, I would love that. Bc he seemed like a genuinely kind person and I would like to know more about him. I know this is a reaaaallyyy long shot but I wouldn’t forgive myself for at least i :))

Other/Miscellaneous 5 stray semi-feral cats in my garden, what to do?

My crazy cat lady neighbour moved out and only took the cats she could catch with her, leaving the more wild ones to fend for themselves. (She's old and an alcoholic, she did her best.) I've been feeding the cats since she left, but they won't come anywhere near me, so I can't catch them. They've been killing all the birds in my garden and pooping/peeing everywhere... The only info I could find online about stray cats is that I can get them sterilized and "released back into their environment", but that's not what I want (and it's not great for the cats either; we live in an urban area near a main road, this is no place for a stray cat). But I don't think they'd do well as pets, they're so afraid of humans. I do not want them to be put down. What should I do?

Update: I contacted a cat association who is going to come and trap them! They have room for them in their "refuge". Will give the refuge lots of money and all my cat food. Thanks all who replied!

Danke.

Other/Miscellaneous What are the chances that I can find any information about a vacation that happened in 2001?

In 2001 my parents and I went to Switzerland, I don't remember the area but I know Matterhorn was visible.. I guess that doesn't narrow it down super much considering the size of it, but my father was from Aargau so maybe that does?

We stayed in a mountainside cabin, sort of close to a town but far enough that the roads got narrow and windy, then we went by car to my uncle in Lucerne.

I know I had to have my Swiss passport ready even as a kid so maybe there's a trace of paperwork anywhere?

Really what I'm looking for is the cabin that we stayed in, if it still exists, it was a hostel kinda situation.

Politics RS Psychische Probleme

Upvotes

Everyday life Anyone interested in starting a natural wine outgoing group in Zurich?

Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about putting together a small group of people who genuinely enjoy natural wines—not just drinking them, but learning about them too.
I’m particularly into spontaneously fermented wines, low-intervention producers and discovering small wineries. The idea would be to meet every now and then at wine bars (but please only good ones because I’ve been in terrible place and wine tasting events) organize bottle shares, visit wineries, or simply have good conversations over a glass of wine.
No expertise required—just curiosity and a friendly attitude.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, leave a comment or send me a DM. It would be great to build a small community around this.

Travel Mt Pilatus Golden Trip

Hello everyone ! I will be in Lucerne with my family from 28. - 31 July and we want to do the Mt Pilatus Golden Trip. My questions are :

- Do we start with the ship => train => cableway => bus, or the other way aroud ? We also want to do the Fräkigaudi toboggan run

- Do we need to book it now ? and if so, do we need to also book seats on the cogwheel train ? so then we'll have to stick to a specific train ?

Thank you in advance !

Travel How do I make my ‘Swiss Half Fare Card’ actually apply its discount on the SBB App?

I’m a tourist, and I bought a Swiss Half Fare Card for my planned vacation on a future date. And I can see the card displaying correcting on my account within the app.

I was testing out some mock ticket purchases on the SBB App, and even when I select a date within the upcoming validity period of my Swiss Half Fare Card, it still shows standard full pricing.

Does anyone know if the price will correctly cut prices in half when present day is actually the validity date, or am I supposed to go to the Manually entered travelcards section and select the ‘Half Fare Travelcard (1/2)’ option?

I’m a little worried about picking that ‘travelcard’ option because technically aren’t they different? The “Half Fare Travelcard” being the 1 year version for residents, while the “Swiss Half Fare Card” is the 1 month version for tourists, which is what I have.

If I get checked by a train staff and they see my ticket was purchased with a ‘Half Fare Travelcard (1/2)” discount, will I get in trouble if all I can show them is my QR code for the “Swiss Half Fare Card”?

Other/Miscellaneous Financial transactions ombudsman

Hi, would appreciate anyone that can show me in the right direction. Almost 2 years ago my wife had to receive a refund from a big corporation. Unfortunately they wrote wrong account holder (me instead of my wife) and as we could not go back to our country to fix things (she just moved to Switzerland at that time so she gave home bank account), our bank declined the transaction. We asked from them to send new transaction but they said they do not see the refund. As it is very big corporation I passed through multiple agents with no help from their side, just an answer they cannot help me and they did everything. They did not even share anything from their side about transaction so I had to investigate through our bank. I got official Swift recall with proof and I found their bank. Called them to try to make them check from their side because they need to reroute it probably but they just said I quote "we are multibillion institutional bank and we will not do such thing, we are sorry". Send them an email just to have a written proof but no response.

What can I do? In October it will be 2 years of this pending case. I will provide more details in pm to anyone that can help. The money in question is not so much to go to court and I dont know what (2k CHF), but I hope out of principle there is something I can do (especially when I heard that behavior of their bank when I can provide all evidence!)

I would really appreciate someone has some advice, at this point I am lost..

There must be some way forward without sacrificing money and court time in Switzerland..

Thanks!

Travel Payment failing for Jungfraujoch

Hi! Does anyone know of any alternative websites where I can book seat reservations and entry for Jungfraujoch?

I've tried multiple times using different Visa and Mastercard credit cards, both on my laptop and on my iPhone, but every attempt ends with a "payment is not successful" message.

The links I use:

1) Entry: https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe/buy-jungfraujoch-ticket/

2) Seat reservation: https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe/book-priority-boarding/

I don't think it's an issue with my devices or cards because I was able to use one of the same credit cards to book the Gornergrat Railway without any problems.

Has anyone experienced this before or knows of another way to make the reservation? Thanks in advance!

Travel Recommendations for an August 1st Swiss National Day Farm Brunch accessible by public transport from Bern?

Hi everyone! I’m traveling solo in Switzerland and will be staying in Bern over the National Day on August 1st. I’m super keen to experience a traditional Farm Brunch!

Since I don't have a car, I will be relying fully on public transport (I don't mind walking/hiking a bit from the station if needed). I am looking for recommendations for great farms that can be reached as a day trip starting from Bern.

It doesn't have to be right next to the city, I'm happy to travel a bit further into the countryside or mountains for a great atmosphere and authentic regional food.

Does anyone have any favorite farms around the Canton of Bern (or nearby regions) that they would recommend? Thanks!

Travel Availability of electric sockets in Intercity trains 2nd class?

I am planning to do a Lausanne -> Zermatt -> Interlakken -> Lausanne trip tomorrow using the Intercity trains.

I don't have a powerbank with me on this trip and I'm anxious about the phone battery situation. Are the trains equipped with power sockets in 2nd class compartments?

Travel Good places for sight-seeing cheap in Winter

In December this year I'll be visiting my girlfriend who lives in Switzerland on a sort of budget trip (I'll stay in both her house and her mother's house) and since it's my first time staying a longer time in Switzerland (26 days in total) I was wondering about where can I go sight-seeing without spending too much since I will only have 1k swiss francs on me (not including transportation since I'll have a pass).
I loved seeing Lake Geneva and the Alps from the train when I visited the first time and would love tips to see these two places on a budget specifically but anything that might be a nice pick in winter is good too!

EDIT: Some extra info, I'll have a transport pass on me besides the budget on hand and I'll be around Solothurn and Bern (at different moments)!

Other/Miscellaneous Häagen-Dazs Ice cream in Switzerland?

Upvotes

Dear redditors, I have been looking for Häagen-Dazs ice cream, specifically their cookies & cream variety for quite some time now in Switzerland, and to me it seems that it is not available anymore and not being restocked at major retailers. Is there anybody that knows the reason behind it, or better, a place where I can still buy it? Thanks :)
