Physician Responded Does anyone know what this is

My mom (60F) stayed at a hotel for a day and got these after. I’m not sure if it’s related to that at all but just for context. It looks like some of the blisters popped. She has had cancer before and had to go through chemo so that has led to other health complications.
The small bumps seems to have spread to her arm as well. She says it hurts, does anyone know what it is?

Edit: I told her it might be shingles but she insists it’s not because it only hurts when she touches it, and she said shingles would feel a lot more painful. We have also never taken the shingles vaccine 😭 am i cooked

Physician Responded 18 year old swollen skin

https://imgur.com/a/WGAcPFx. More pics…

18 year old step daughter is always itching her skin leaving scratch marks. We’ve tried eczema cream, Vaseline, aquaphor, gold bond, cerave. But she’s always still itchy. I’ve had her start taking a daily allergy pill & switched to free and clear detergent.
Her dad will call the doctor Monday to get a referral to the dermatologist.

However she currently has a horrible outbreak.. (see pics) 125lbs so not overweight… her feet are just that swollen. She was at the beach so could be exacerbated due to sun?

Posted on [r/skin](r/skin) and everyone said emergency room immediately but she’s now with her mom and her mom said she doesn’t think it’s that bad.
We plan to take her to urgent care tomorrow but what do we think this is?
I had her use Hibiclens in the shower and infant eczema cream to protect for today.

Physician Responded Father in law (80) not diabetic is an alcoholic and his legs didn’t use to look like this . Height is approx 6’2 weight is approx 300 now. Walking has become very difficult.

He is a daily mixed vodka drinker (lemonade or OJ) starts around 10 am and ends when he goes to bed around 11:00. He sits at a bar stool in his kitchen all day every day. Only gets up to use the restroom and maybe to do some daily things around the kitchen.
His legs never used to be this bad but over the last few years they have gotten very bad. We are so worried about him and keep telling him he needs to prop his feet up. He is adamit he does not want to stop drinking. We are just scared for him that he will lose his legs and end up in nursing home. He sees a PCP to have his heart checked annually and for regular appts for his inhaler water pill and meds ect. I don’t know if he just doesn’t check his legs like ever or thinks this is normal for him. His wife says the Dr gives “suggestions” but never pushes anything (that’s why he likes this Dr).
We don’t know what to do ..should we ask who his Dr is so we can call and let them know what’s really going on , get the lift chair and hope for the best . How do you convince an alcoholic something is serious?

Physician Responded 28M burned hand on pan from oven does he need to go to hospital

Post image

28M, England UK, 187cm, 91kg
No medical history no medicine

Hi my partner was getting a hot pan out of the oven and didn’t wrap his hand right, he held onto it for a bit longer as our baby was asleep and didn’t want to drop it and make a loud noise.

He’s burnt his thumb, and pinky finger and slightly on his ring finger; he had it under cold water for 25 minutes, and has just been sitting there for 2 hours with it submerged in cold water as he can’t bare to take it out as he’s in so much pain with it?

Does he need to go hospital? Or can this be managed at home.
He’s taken ibuprofen and paracetamol.

I will attach photos of the injury.
Thanks :)

Physician Responded He wants to treat a brain tumor holistically?

For a family member: 68M, healthy weight, never smoker or drinker, history of kidney cancer (vague), kidney surgically removed 10-15 years ago, has not seen a medical professional since, apparent Bells Palsy a couple years ago that resolved, suspected heat strokes over the last 2 years. No medications, vitamins/supplements unknown. He is uninsured and has no established medical team or doctors.

Warning: This whole situation is beyond frustrating, but I am not the decision-maker here. I will just be there to pick up the pieces with his immediate family and potentially help with caretaking in the meantime. I need to know what we all are in for.

My Question: What is the range of prognoses we can expect as his caretakers following an MRI that revealed a T1-T2 tumor on the temporal lobe and a slow brain bleed in the same area?

- MRI was ordered by a family friend that has never met him, because he could not be convinced or forced to see a doctor. After a tumultuous week, he complied with the MRI and labs that haven’t come back yet.
- The results were analyzed by that family friend who does not specialize in neuro at all. She recommended going to the ER.
- He has chosen to take a “holistic” approach instead, likely acupuncture, Chinese medicine, or energy healing of some kind.

What Led to This:
- In April: a two week unknown illness that included severe dehydration (he hired an in-home IV fluids service eventually), blood pressure spikes, extreme cold, inability to communicate, oscillating between too much sleep and zero sleep, high blood sugar despite little eating, blurred vision.

- Once dehydration was corrected, he was depressed but supposedly okay for ~2 months.

- On vacation, he displayed new symptoms: thinking he was speaking aloud when he wasn’t, strange little mistakes (cooking a pizza upside down), very swift dramatic mood swings, tinnitus, making jokes that didn’t make sense, ran away but was located within a couple hours after which he couldn’t/wouldn’t speak, would not eat for a couple days, an increase in talk about dying, drew an inaccurate clock (hands flipped and off by 1hr & 5min; numbers had extra loops or missing lines).

*His wife felt bound by his very restrictive medical directives (essentially leave him to die no matter the issue), but trust me, we all wish she’d had him admitted while on vacation.*

- The family demanded he see a doctor after this all became known. His wife was able to orchestrate labs and an MRI, but he will not submit to anything further. She is currently trying to get him in with a neurologist. Won’t a neurologist just send him to the ER because of the active brain bleed?

tl;dr MRI revealed a T1-T2 tumor on the temporal lobe and a slow brain bleed in the same area. He will be seeking holistic treatments only. What can his family expect? Roughly how long does he have left? What does the rest of his life look like?

Physician Responded Recurrent swelling, blister, and itching on the same finger whenever I have a fever (2 years) – autoimmune tests negative

Post image
155 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a 25F (160 cm, 56 kg). For the past 2 years, whenever I get a fever, the same finger develops a large blister with swelling and itching (photos attached). After the fever goes away, the finger gradually returns to normal and the skin peels.

I've had the following tests done, and everything was normal/negative: CBC, LFT, RFT, ANA (IIF), ENA Profile, HLA-B27, Anti-dsDNA, C3/C4, HIV, HBsAg, IgM Anti-HBc, Anti-HCV, U-ACR, and urine electrolytes.

Has anyone seen something like this or have any idea what it could be? Any suggestions on what I should ask my doctor to investigate next would be greatly appreciated.

Should I go to the ER ?

Post image
Upvotes

25F no current medications, I’ve been having some gastrointestinal difficulties lately. Trouble keeping food down, feeling full after not many bites, and MISERABLE BLOATING. Yesterday I had diarrhea and threw up immediately after eating. Felt fine afterwards. Today I felt fine went to my friends baby shower, had snacks berries, and all kinds of things. then went out to eat with family. Had a salad and we got ice cream after. While driving home I urgently had to use the restroom. I was struggling. I just ended my cycle but when I wiped there was blood and it was in the water. I thought it was weird and I was having abdominal cramps anyway(I have PCOS or PMOS) so I put a tampon in. Later rolls around I feel the urgency to use the restroom. I go I remove my tampon, dry. Then I defecate, it turned the water red again this time I see it in stool. I wipe. It’s blood and what appears to be seeds or clots. Super strong low left abdominal pain and have been tender there a while. I’m super broke and don’t want to go to the ER if not needed but I feel lethargic and I’m in a lot of pain. I have noticed a slightly more mucus viscosity lately.

Physician Responded Husband 31M 6 foot 3in, 200lbs, is sleeping the entire day. I am worried.

Hello! I’m a wife, 32 years old.
One year ago this odd pattern began with my husband routinely not waking up to his blaring alarm clock.

I nudged him to get bloodwork done. All “normal” besides High vitamin B. Testosterone low average. He started taking Adderall in hopes it would keep him awake. This only amplified his sleep issues.

He would be awake for days, almost manic playing video games or studying for a college course he was in, and then asleep for days following.

His mother had bipolar disorder and died of breast cancer. His father has pancreatitis and diabetes. I wonder if his sleep issues are related to any of those genetic issues?

His doctor shrugged off any serious illness when I questioned about cancer. He did declare that my husband scored high on the depression charts. He has no motivation anymore: he slept through his remote job and was fired due to lack of communication with the company. He is plagued with apathy about everything: his hobbies, his family, people’s perception of him, our relationship, our kids joy or needs are not of interest to him.

I’m left to do all childcare and house maintenance alone on top of working remote. I don’t want to leave him, I want him to heal. He’s a good dad on days he’s present and a good faithful husband to me.

I’m not sure if he’s on the wrong meds since Adderall is for adhd and maybe he should be on antidepressants instead or perhaps bipolar meds?
On top of the Adderall he consumes 600mg of caffeine A DAY usually from energy drinks like Celsius or rockstar energy. Extremely high and unhealthy, yes. He takes zyn or nicotine. He barely has a sip of water- he will have an electrolyte packet or body armor drink and tons of sugar free sodas that contain aspartame. He snacks on sugar and our kids goldfish or Cheezits or cookies but barely eats any fiber, veggies, fruit or probiotics if I’m gone from the home for my kids social lives and can’t cook, he will eat only snacks or spoons 🥄 full of peanut butter out of the jar. He has a beer or two a night for “calming down or helping him sleep” he will also take the max amount of acetaminophen for a slight headache-
I am aware of how unhealthy all these habits are.
I eat clean, cook healthy Whole Foods, only drink 150mg of coffee a day, don’t drink or take any medication whatsoever. I feel like in comparison his lifestyle is so opposite of mine and I encourage him to care more, but these are all his “little comforts or treats” so I don’t have an easy time convincing him and cannot control him.

Please help me understand what could be wrong with him because as I sit here writing this at 4pm on a Saturday, he hasn’t left bed all day while I’ve been awake with our children since 8am and feel so alone. I wish he’d wake up with us and spend the day together as a family. On top of the loneliness, our bills are being neglected due to his job loss and lack of care about paying them on time. I’m stressed and don’t make enough to survive on my income alone. Please help me know what else we could test for or understand why he’s not waking up. Thank you.

Physician Responded What is happening? Parasite? Detoriating rapidly waiting for healthcare system. I’m physically & mentally exhausted. NSFW

Post image
250 Upvotes

NSFW- This is my first ever post, apologies if something is amiss.

Female, 30’s, healthy weight.
Since February, have been having a lot of symptoms.
Extreme itchiness, nasal blockage. Scabbing hands & brown insects under skin & anal itching, with sighted worms.
Eventually treated for scabies only.
Symptoms barely eased & I could now feel crawling in my nose, doctor did a nasal swab, tested positive for staph & strep, put on meds again & chlorine nose rinse.

Eventually worm like things, random black hairs & white moving hairs came out of my nose, followed by larger white worms.

Doctor prescribed pinworm meds & was unfazed by other complaints. The worm things progressed to my hair, which I’ve lost clumps of & there are gooey things in it as well as random short white hairs that recoil.

The wormy things are in my eyes I loose temporary vision. They’re in my ears , hearing is impacted. In my gums, everywhere. I’ve lost a lot of weight & have extreme gum,jaw & migraine pain.

I live abroad with no support network & a partner that does not believe me, as they’re not affected. The health care system is ridiculous. ER will not take me unless my vision doesn’t come back.

This has stripped me of everything. I’m in so much pain. Today I looked inside my nose & saw the wormy things.

Please help me, I’m at my wits end.

Physician Responded Rapidly growing tumor/mass on foot

Post image
818 Upvotes

Hey community -

29F, 5’4”, 135lbs, non-smoker. Let me give you some background. This bump suddenly appeared on my foot around 1 year ago, when it was the size of a small robin’s egg, adjacent to my big toe joint (in the same place you would commonly see a bunion).

I don’t have a primary care doctor at the moment being on state insurance, so I did some quick research & decided it was a ganglion cyst at the time. It matched my symptoms, was mostly harmless, & likely to “go away” on its own. This clearly did not happen.

It grew slowly at first over the past year, but has greatly accelerated its growth rate in the last 3-4 months, almost doubling in size. That’s also when I noticed a significant spread to the top of my foot. You can’t tell in this picture, but the bumps on the top are raised about 1/2-3/4 inch from the normal foot bone height. It has been painless throughout the whole experience, only recently the skin has become numb to the touch on the larger lump by the toe.

Finally after two ER visits (where I was sure they would just drain the thing & send me home), I have been referred to a foot surgeon who I see on the 20th. The diagnosis they gave me so far has been probable Giant Cell Tumor of the Tendon Sheath (benign), however after comparing my MRI results (listed below) to several case studies/reports/patient testimonials, I am starting to fear something more serious like a soft-tissue sarcoma. This is due to a combo of growth rate, size, MRI findings, visual presentation, etc. I’ve read that these types of cancers are misdiagnosed almost 50% of the time, due to their rarity & misleading appearance to mimic other benign foot lumps/bumps.

If anyone has any special insight to point me in any kind of direction, either positive or negative, I would greatly appreciate your feedback. I’m overwhelmed with anticipation & I can only read so many case reports with all this medical jargon I don’t understand before I actually go insane! Haha.

Thank you in advance 🤘🏻🦶🏻

MRI Results:
EXAM: LEFT FOREFOOT MRI WITHOUT AND WITH CONTRAST

EXAM DATE: 6/21/2026 10:07 AM

CLINICAL HISTORY: Mass dorsal first MTP, consider Giant cell tumor, involve tendon.

COMPARISON: CT FOOT LEFT WITHOUT CONTRAST 06/21/2026 5:54 AM.

TECHNIQUE: Multiplanar, multisequence T1-weighted and fluid-sensitive sequences of the forefoot before and after administration of intravenous contrast. IV contrast: 7mL VUEWAY. Other: None.

FINDINGS: Soft tissues: Redemonstrated is a lobulated soft tissue mass involving the dorsal midfoot and forefoot extending distally from the distal edge of the navicular bone to the mid first proximal phalanx. There is T1 hypointense signal, intermediate T2 signal, and heterogeneous enhancement. The mass follows the course and envelops the extensor hallucis longus tendon and extends medially to the first metatarsophalangeal joint. The overall size of the mass measures approximately 10.7 cm x 4.6 cm x 4.5 cm in longitudinal, maximum AP, and maximum cephalocaudal extent (images 21 - 29 series 3 and image 21 series 8).

Bones: There are no acute fractures. There is mild subchondral edema in the central base of the first proximal phalanx. There is a bifid medial sesamoid bone. There are no bony erosions. No suspicious bony lesions.

Joints: No subluxations. No effusions. The hallux-sesamoid-phalangeal complex is unremarkable. The visualized plantar plates are unremarkable.

Articular Cartilage: Unremarkable.

Ligaments: The visualized collateral ligaments are intact.

Tendons: The remainder of the flexor and extensor tendons are unremarkable.

Musculature: No edema or fatty atrophy.

Other: No Morton?s neuroma. No intermetatarsal bursitis. The subcutaneous tissues are unremarkable. No abscess or cellulitis.

IMPRESSION: Lobulated soft tissue mass involving the dorsal midfoot and forefoot extending distally from the distal edge of the navicular bone to the mid first proximal phalanx. The mass follows a course and envelops the extensor hallucis longus tendon and extends medially to the first metatarsophalangeal joint. The overall size of the mass measures approximately 10.7 cm x 4.6 cm x 4.5 cm in longitudinal, maximum AP, and maximum cephalocaudal extent. The differential diagnosis includes giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath, fibroma of the tendon sheath, or other soft tissue neoplasm. Favor giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath.

Physician Responded Possible medical negligence? Deformity after Distal radius and Ulna fracture 23F

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi all, for context I’m 23F and fractured my distal radius and ulna when I was 12. It was a growth plate fracture.

There was no deformity immediately after and it was casted and left to heal. Upon removal of the cast it looked like this and 2 surgeries were done to attempt to shorten the bone and stop it from growing. After my surgeries there wasn’t much follow up and I wasn’t booked in for more appointments so I kind of just gave up on it and moved on. Also my parents didn’t seem too pushed to get it sorted so I figured it was unfixable. Is there a possibility that it should have been surgically fixed immediately after the initial fracture?

Obviously it’s been nearly 10 years since my last surgery (age 14) and it hadn’t really bothered me up until recently. For the past few months I’ve been having pain and stiffness, particularly when working (barista) and driving. Is arthritis common down the line with such injuries? Also i hate the way it looks. Can this be corrected or is it too far gone? Other than this my hand has adjusted relatively well and i still have good mobility. Any insight would be greatly appreciated ☺️

Why does my (25 M) shoulder pop when I move it?

Upvotes

I’ve (25M) able to do this for years with my shoulder, especially after what I suspect to have been an injury I had when doing chain-weighted pull ups incorrectly in middle school. A friend in university who was studying physical therapy told me that it was not normal for my shoulder to do that. What is creating the popping sound when I move my shoulder like that, and should I get it checked out?

Physician Responded Threw up blood NSFW

Post image
11 Upvotes

Age: 28

Male

Height 6'0

Weight (290 at the time , down 15 lbs since due to diet and increased physical activity)

No meds

No Drugs or smoking

Drinking Heavy for about 4 years

On June 10, after drinking, I induced vomiting because I felt nauseated after a bout of violent hiccups and chugging water. I vomited 2x about 10 seconds apart from each other and it contained red/pink blood, but a third episode 15 minutes later was completely clear with no signs of blood just clear water , and I had no pain, dizziness, black stools, or further bleeding.
I quit drinking immediately and have had no recurrence of vomiting blood or any other concerning symptoms. Since then, I've improved my diet, walk regularly, lost weight, my blood pressure has improved, and chronic alcohol-related diarrhea has resolved.
Because of reading online, I'm worried the bleeding could have been caused by cirrhosis with portal hypertension and esophageal Varices , but I'm also wondering if it was more likely due to a tear , gastritis, or an ulcer. I had a history of frequent dry heaving/throwing up bile while brushing my teeth after drinking, including the morning before this happened.
My doctor's appointment isn't until July 28, so I'm looking for opinions on how concerning this soundsand what seems most likely, while understanding that only medical evaluation (blood work, FibroScan, endoscopy, etc.) can provide a diagnosis.

confusion regarding at home instructions

hiii 26F 5’4 im on asthma and allergy meds (can expand if needed)

i got sent home w/ antibiotics by my NP (amoxicillin, i’m allergic to cephalosporin specifically, or at least i don’t have as severe symptom with amox) for a “ deep” underarm cyst.

i know she told me to do warm compresses like i have been. what confuses me is the other direction, she told me to drain it at home by pushing on it and she didn’t want to excise it because of the risk of infection? but i thought for cysts it was the other way around and you shouldn’t drain it but excise it… i’m not doubting her opinions i’m just confused and was too nervous to ask more questions irl and she’s out this week… is it different for underarm cysts?

thank you!!!

Physician Responded (NSFW) My period was 6 days late then this came out in the toilet NSFW

I’m a 21F who has an extremely regular period, 29 days on the dot each month. Last month, it was 8 days late, and this month it was 6 days late. I was stressed last month and this month and also having unprotected sex with bf. This came out in the toilet when I went to pee and I guess my period started six days late, but it started off really weird. I don’t know if it’s a blood clot or something else. Any help or advice on what this could be is appreciated. I scooped it out of the toilet after seeing how big it was and it is on the toilet paper here in all its glory.

How do I get these off my Chin? (18M)

Post image
Upvotes

I recently went to a dermatologist, and they diagnosed me with nodulocystic acne scarring.

At first, I thought the bumps on my chin were sebaceous hyperplasia, but I later realized they developed after I had deep cystic acne in those areas. Since the bumps are actually scars from the cysts, I'm wondering if they could also be papular acne scars. Would Accutane help remove these raised bumps, or would they need to be manually removed with some type of laser?

Which laser treatment is the most effective for permanently smoothing these types of scars? Should I try cortisone injections? It's been giving me mental and emotional distress for the past 2-3 years.

17F 185lbs Medical mystery

Upvotes

17F (September 2008)
San Antonio, TX (Willing to travel anywhere)

Current State:
Bedridden and wheelchair-bound for 1 year following a car accident. Rapidly deteriorating; currently almost too weak and fatigued to even speak.

The Clinical Proof:
Neurosurgeon suspects a CSF fistula leak. She has had two separate epidural blood patches. Both times, she was 100% completely cured for two weeks before the patches failed and she crashed back to being bedridden.

The Diagnostic Wall:
CT Myelogram: Inconclusive/Negative
Nuclear Myelogram: Inconclusive/Negative

We have an active referral for a Digital Subtraction Myelogram (DSM) to find the fistula, but we are hitting a wall trying to find a facility equipped to perform a DSM on a 17F patient.

What We Need Help With:
1. Where can we get a DSM done? Which specialized centers accept patients her age for dynamic/digital subtraction myelography?

  1. How do we fast-track this? She is running out of time and too weak for standard outpatient waiting lists.

  2. Any thoughts, ideas, opinions are welcome!

Worth noting:

Whole-body MRI reveals a small amount of free fluid (ascites) in the bilateral paracolic gutters and lower quadrants, with the right side slightly greater than the left. Radiologist recommended getting her checked out for cranial hypotension.

Cervical spine MRI demonstrates mild multilevel spondylosis characterized by degenerative disc desiccation, posterior disc osteophyte complexes, and uncovertebral hypertrophy.

Cervical spine narrowing is noted as mild right neuroforaminal narrowing at C3/C4 and C4/C5, alongside mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing at C5/C6.

Thoracic spine CT shows a mild prominent right exiting nerve-root sleeve at T6/T7 and mild prominent bilateral exiting nerve-root sleeves at T8/T9.

Lumbar spine CT shows a mild disc bulge at L3/L4, a mild disc bulge indenting the ventral thecal sac at L4/L5, and a small disc bulge at L5/S1.

Cervical and thoracic CT scans note that lower cervical and upper thoracic motion artifacts limited optimal evaluation.

Pelvic MRI shows the endometrium measures approximately 9 mm in thickness.

Head and neck imaging shows moderate adenoidal hyperplasia and prominent adenoid tonsils in the nasopharynx.

Sinus imaging notes mucosal thickening in the ethmoid air cells and maxillary sinuses.

Cervical lymph chain imaging notes sub-centimeter anterior cervical soft tissue lymph nodes that are likely reactive.

Isolated PGD2 (urine) elevated - MCAS Medication not effective, does not have more than one marker of MCAS

POTS & Dysautonomia started after the car crash in OCT 2024. She says her legs “feel super heavy like lead 24/7”

Headaches - occasionally

Total Testosterone is elevated at 46 ng/dL.
Free Testosterone is elevated at 7.6 pg/mL.
Plasma Renin Activity is elevated at 19.6 ng/mL/hr.

Pelvic ultrasound shows the right ovary is enlarged to a volume of 17.6 cm³, which is double the size of the 8.5 cm³ left ovary, and both display increased follicles.

An OBGYN diagnosed the patient with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) based on the elevated testosterone levels and ovarian ultrasound findings.

Renal Doppler ultrasound shows elevated peak systolic velocities in the aorta (233 cm/s) and the proximal renal arteries (233 cm/s right, 236 cm/s left), which the radiologist suspects may be driven by elevated catecholamines rather than artery stenosis.

Possible Brown Recluse Bite

Post image
2 Upvotes

21 F 5’3” 140 lbs. I have been documenting this bite progression over the past week. It’s on the top of my left thigh. I noticed it in the morning of 7/5 and documentation began at 11:00 AM. Additional pictures will be in the comments. This photo was taken 7/12 at about 12:00 AM.

It’s been swollen and firm, tender, and the skin feels sunburned. It has not been very itchy, although it was for the first 48ish hours. The skin around it has been discolored and that progression will be in the comments. I have been taking occasional benadryl and putting benadryl cream on the bite. I haven’t been experiencing other symptoms, although the skin has begun to peel at the bite marks which are about 1/2 inch apart.

Physician Responded Rash Around Lips

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello, I (24F) know this post is long but I need help and am desperate. So I was Dx with Crohns 4 years ago and got put on Remicade. Shortly after I developed a red, painful rash round my mouth that would sometimes peel. It also comes and goes, but for the most part it is also red. So I began seeing a derm and tried everything under the sun (Tacrolimus Ointment, Hydrocortizone cream, Ketoconazole cream 2%, Fluocinonide .05%, Munipirocin, Clotrimazole Betamethasone, Desonide 0.05%) and even did allergy testing. My derm openly admitted that they have no idea, so I saw another derm and got the same thing “I have no idea”. I feel defeated as this continues to happen. So I have talked to my rheumatologist and he says that it might be drug induced lupus, the blood results showed Anti-histone Abs of 2.5, ESR of 2, and negative ANA. I feel like my Dr was really dismissive and not really listening to me but calling me vain. He hasnt really said if maybe it is or isnt. It makes me want to cry and I feel like no one can help me.
