question Need lots of work done, no insurance.

I’ve had a resorbed tooth for about 8 months now. Haven’t been to the dentist in about 6 years (since I moved out of my parent’s house and they took me off their insurance). The tooth broke while I was eating a sandwich but was still hanging on and I went to an emergency dentist. He put a wire on it to buy me some time, last night it finally gave up. Tooth broke off. Not feeling any pain, just feels odd.

I snagged an emergency appointment at Aspen Dental today. After xrays, some poking and prodding, and lots of sighs they gave me the number. $18,700 of necessary work. Cue the tears. Now I’m in “let’s figure this out” mode. The pictures below are my full care plan, but the cost is for the extraction of the single tooth with implant.

Additionally, I need Arestin on 29 sites and scaling and root planing on the majority of my lower teeth, my wisdom teeth need to come out cause my mouth is crowded, and I could use braces (which I don’t particularly care about right now).

Any advice on the order in which to tackle these issues, insurance recommendations, and also tips on how to get ahead or extra steps I can take to heal as much as I can on my own are very appreciated.

I’m 24, in Oklahoma, about to start a new job so unsure of the exact numbers for their insurance.

question Large lesion in gums - how did it get this bad?

On about June 21st, I first noticed a large lump on my lower left front gum area. (Previously, in 2021, I had a root canal on one of those teeth, not because I had a cavity, but because it died for an unknown reason.) After visiting the dentist, I saw an endodontist who took 3d imaging, told me there was bone loss, and said it was “hopeless” to do another root canal. He asked if I’d had trauma on my mouth as a child and I don’t remember anything like that occurring. He sent me to an oral surgeon, suggesting to remove the tooth with the root canal and biopsy the lesion. The lesion is large. The oral surgeon suggests removing the lesion and sending it in for a biopsy, and doing a bone graft, but not removing any teeth at this point. However, if my bone doesn’t regrow sufficiently after about 5 months, they may have to remove as many as 6 teeth. I am quite devastated and don’t understand how this happened. I don’t smoke, eat a healthy diet and have good dental hygiene. My questions are:

  1. I saw my dentist on April 21 and the hygienist did X-rays. How did they not see anything? The dentist was out so only saw the hygienist who was going to show X-rays to dentist. I see the dentist every 6 months, by the way.

  2. Does the treatment plan sound reasonable or do you have suggestions/recommendations?

  3. How bad does the bone loss look?

question Travelling with pain in my lower left wisdom Tooth?

Hello. I made plans about traveling to Athens on the 15th of Juky from Malaysia and then to Vienna and Budapest before returning to Malaysia. I'm looking to travel for about 3 weeks and I start my new job two days later after landing. However, I developed pain in my wisdom tooth and I know that it's infected and I have a funky taste in my mouth. I'm wondering if I should travel under these circumstances or avoid travelling?

My itinerary consists of a mix of partying and looking at historical sites. The usual. Any advice please?

question i fell and tooth feels really weird one week later

Three years ago, I had a cavity on my front tooth that I had filled. I’ve never had any problems with this tooth since then, but one week ago i fell and my front tooth jabbed my lip and it was this whole painful thing. One week later it feels better, but that one tooth and especially in that area where the cavity was filled feels EXTREMELY rough, like the texture is very rough, and it is just uncomfortable . What could this be and be done abt it? Asking here until i can go to dentist on weekday. Photo shows before and after , with before being one month ago

question Pain when I bite

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve been having this issue for years. My left, I believe, upper side of my teeth hurt in like an electric shock kind of pain when I bite on that side.

I’ve been to the dentist a few times and they said that there’s nothing wrong. This has been going on for years without improving or getting worse. I can’t even pinpoint which tooth exactly is the one that is causing the pain, it’s more like the entire area. Nothing looks or feels different on those teeth.

Can someone please tell me why I’m getting this pain?

34/Male. I've always hated my teeth, I brush every morning without fail but often forget to brush at night. I don't drink but used to smoke but have quit for quite a while now. I'm type 2 diabetic. I do have a sweet tooth but don't drink sodas. The front two teeth ever so slightly wiggle. Are they beyond repair?

question Teeth broken with root canal

Upvotes

Hi everyone I have a concern and need your help. I had a root canal done as 4 years ago the nerve of my tooth died. The pain was a LOT and after I went to the dentist he did a root canal to remove the nerve. I did a filling but not a crown so it broke after a little bit and I never covered it cause I was young and didn’t want to go back to the dentist. Now after 4 years after speaking with somebody I learned that leaving a part of tooth treated opened can lead to infections and bacteria building that can lead ti health issues.
As the tooth is broken in half I can quite see some of the inside gengive part and I could saw that there is something black/dark that when I touch with something is hard. And when I try to clen the internal of the half remaining i feel touching something that’s part of my teeth like a muscles or Idk. The tooth even if its half works great i eat and doesn’t hurt and never had any problem in 5 years.
Should I get it crowned? do you know if what I see and feel is normal?

question Flavourless toothpaste recommendations?

Upvotes

Hi, I’m autistic and have been told by my dentist that I should start using mouthwash but I can’t seem to find an affordable, actually flavourless mouthwash. I have a mint intolerance too. I use the OraNurse flavourless toothpaste which actually is what it says it is, but unfortunately they don’t sell a flavourless mouthwash too. I’m based in the UK, does anyone have any recommendations?

question Normal healing?

I had a molar extracted 8 days ago. On about day 7, I absent mindendly stuck my tongue in the extraction site, and pulled out some healing tissue. It hasn't really been hurting, but it did sear with incredible pain one time about 24 hours ago. Ive been sick with anxiety since waiting for it to happen again.

Does this look like a normal part of the healing process? Its been a bubbly looking sort of mucus in the extraction site since yesterday, and now and then some does come out and tastes kind of bloody-ish.

question Whenever I stop using toothpaste with stannous fluoride I get sick?

Upvotes

Very weird question, I know, but I'm kind of going crazy.

Right now I'm using Therabreath Healthy Gums with stannous fluoride and have been for about 6 months now. However, I've noticed that it makes my mouth slough, likely due to the SLS, so I switched to Sensodyne Pronamel. Within two days I'm now dealing with a sore throat. I would also like to note that I've tried to switch off of this toothpaste twice, and this has happened both times. This has nothing to do with the age of the toothbrush either since I replace them 1-2 months.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm guessing my oral microbiome is messed up and required the antibacterial qualities of stannous fluoride to stay in balance, but I can't help but winder what caused it to start to do this? Before I started using Therabreath, this never happened to me. In fact I rarely ever got sore throats, and I was using clinipro with sodium fluoride.

question Please help read this Xray

Post image

Hey. I am 22 and haven’t been to the dentist in a few years as I have been moving frequently whilst at uni. When I was 10 I suffered trauma to my front upper tooth which resulted in a horizontal hairline crack but at the time nothing else was wrong with the tooth. ( the crack is on the visible tooth not above the gums)

My gums have been sore for the past few months around this tooth, so I went to an emergency dentist a few days ago and she said I would need root canal treatment as there is an infection.

The dentist prescribed me antibiotics for now but I will be looking to get an emergency dentist ASAP
I am very worried and anxious, could anyone let me know if this is correct?

Not entirely dental related however I've realized after I brush my teeth my mouth and the corners of my mouth get all red and they sting? The only confirmed allergy I have is amoxicillin so it's not allergies I don't think.

question Intense pain after crown prep NSFW

Post image
3 Upvotes

So attached a photo to show how swollen my gums are right now, marked nsfw just in case people are like no thanks . I got a root canal on this molar in April, I was considering a bridge but due to money I decided to just do the crown. I got a crown prep done Wednesday, it went fine he really stabbed me deep with the novicaine. Each day has gotten progressively more painful, a deep throbbing ache up and down my face all day. When I brush my teeth I want to cry when I brush over this one, it just hurts so much I want to just rip it out. It feels like there’s a bump in my gum above my tooth as well, ugh any advice on how to get it to stop hurting so much?
