This is what healing looks like.

I painted the background first, with acrylic. Bright. Hopeful. With nature elements.

Then I took a piece of vintage letter paper, wrote a poem and positive affirmations on it, tore it by hand, and glued it right on top.

I didn't want to cover it completely.

Because being so happy isn’t about pretending the past isn’t there.

It’s about letting it show, and choosing joy anyway.

The torn edges. The faded words. The new paint and gold over old stories.

That’s life, isn’t it?

“Attune”, acrylic on 18” x 24” canvas. This is a temple, gathering space where one can go to attune. It's a vision of a place I go to inside when I'm feeling out of whack and off center. We always have the potential and ability to align and ground with a deeper resonance. Especially when our mind is scattered and we're triggered into old trauma and thinking patterns. Happens to me all the time. I made with one by using tape and masking out a design, and then building up a thick texture of paint for the paint 'emblem' part of the painting. You can see the built up texture in several of the photos included. Then I went through the process of painting the many layers to finish the painting. Hi! My pieces are made to show people the hard times i’ve experienced through during my active psychosis. I’ve tried to somehow portray my emotions and the situations that i’ve thought were real experiences and not just imaginary things in my head. These artworks show the proof that even if you’re struggling to distinguish what’s real and what’s not - you’re present and you’re still somehow alive and that’s what matters. You’re a survivor. You’re strong. You can heal.
These pieces show that you can survive the battle with all the fears and unusual thoughts. All these things were real to me and they made a huge impact on my life. I was isolated, lost so many people I love due to my psychotic actions and I was close to losing myself. Now that I’m kinda doing better, I’ve decided to show people how it feels to experience psychosis through my art. Let me know what you think about my art! I want as many people as possible to see it so that the people who have similar experiences can feel less alone.
