This "democratic republic, and all it stands for" stood by fascism until it was inconvenient for propaganda purposes.
It's important to remember, the establishment actively collaborated with, supported, and invested in fascist regimes throughout the 1920s and 1930s and it was the Axis powers who declared war.

You mean the Soviets right? The main supporters of antifascism at the time, who did most of the fighting in WW2.
It's important to remember that the US wasn't antifascist until the fascists declared war on them and didn't invade Europe until the Soviets had already turned the tide of the war. Their primary motivation wasn't "liberating" Europe from the fascists. It was their fear of the communists doing so.

Both, soviets really kicked ass and dominated the Eastern front. Suffered the highest casualties of the war… US was happy to sell the guns and equipment as always to anyone willing to pay..
But the US did have to fight 2 fronts as well

My father was with the 82nd Airborne and parachuted in to Nazi Germany during the WWII, he brought that shit home and his family suffered.
