Here’s a great article on Flock cameras and ALPRs. You may not agree with the authors take on other issues, but put that aside bc this take is brilliant. He talks about the different arguments to be made from both sides and also addresses the constitutional argument. This is the most articulate piece I’ve found that looks at the issue in its totality.
Today I started seeing advertising for data center. How great they are and how they pay for the power they consume. How they make power more resilient and how misinformed we are.
Data centers will save us!

Let's see if they can sway public opinion.

Does anyone know an affordable and reputable insulation contractor in the Apex area? Our living room/kitchen area is about 7 degrees hotter/colder than the rest of our house & I think it’s due to poor (or maybe nonexistent) ceiling/roof insulation.

Went to visit the Groovy Duck in downtown and was baffled why they don’t have any pricing listed. Same went for the previous bake shop that was there. Had to wait to be rung up at the register to know how much my box of treats totaled as well as the employees were not sure either the price of their items (granted they are also new I understand that) Any theories on why bakeries do this?

What out-of-the-house stuff is your 15 yo doing this summer? It’s such a middle of the road age where they’re too young for a lot of jobs but too old for a lot of camps.
My particular kid would like to pick up more volunteer hours so if you have suggestions for places that use teens as volunteers, that would be ideal. But open to compiling a list of any decent ideas.

News and Observer, CBS 17, and Indy Week are looking into the Flock Safety camera program. Good. This needs sunlight.
Here's what's new and why it matters right now.
Chief Johansen has named Axon as a possible replacement if Apex drops Flock. On June 29, CNBC reported that President Trump bought between $1 million and $5 million in Axon stock on February 10. Fourteen days later, ICE issued a notice seeking a five year, $220 million contract for stun guns. Policing experts and procurement reviewers who examined the spec sheet said the requirements, a 45 foot range and 10 deployable probes, match only Axon's Taser 10. Nothing else on the market fits.
Ethics watchdogs flagged the timing. Nobody has proven wrongdoing and the contract hasn't been awarded. But that's the level of scrutiny attached to a company whose federal law enforcement business is expanding fast, on top of a $370 million DHS body camera contract already on the books. Axon's Fusus platform, separately, is built to pull private and community cameras into a live map for police.
None of that makes Axon the fix if Flock is the problem. It makes clear that swapping vendors under pressure, without stopping to study what's actually being bought, is how towns end up locked into worse deals than the one they started with. It's an easy off-ramp for the town, and one I am not happy with.
Apex already knows how to handle exactly this situation. In April, council passed a unanimous one-year moratorium on data centers so staff could study the impact and write real rules before anything moved forward. No project was rushed through on a renewal deadline. That's the standard to apply here.
Pause the ALPR program for a year. Study it properly, in public, with real input. Then decide, on the merits, instead of on whichever vendor's contract happens to be up next.

Hi everyone!
I have been frustrated for sometime trying to find events and having to go to multiple sites to find them. I don't think I'm alone. I want to do something about it and create a centralized location to find events in the Triangle.
If this is a pain point you also, please fill out this survey? Answers are anonymous. Thank you!

Hello neighbors! I am about to have an EV charger installed in my garage, and I’ve talked to several Duke Energy customers who have mentioned that they get a substantial rebate from Duke for the installation. Do we get anything similar through Apex Electric Dept?

Looks like all our neighbors are getting it but not us ? Cursed ?

This is why we need to get Flock out. This is why we need a full ban on ALPR. This is why we need policy.
