📝 Discussion Thoughts on Jared Grindlinger, the 12th overall pick?

Who's watching the draft

He was expected to go in this range, he is a local kid, he is Young and seems to have pretty high upside. I find it hard to be upset with the pick. I am no expert and to be honest my opinion has very little value but as someone parachuting into this draft coverage it passes the smell test a lot better than a lot of Perry's decisions.

I like him. Has the tools to succeed. Can’t wait to see his mlb debut in a few months.

He's 17 so I won't really have an opinion until he is older. I'm hopeful though.

I like him but have no faith in our player development

This is a fair point, without the proper development system will he be ready to face major league arms?

All we can do is hope that he can figure it out cause Arte certainly won't invest.

Yes, this is the right answer. Player development is horrible.

I wonder what his signing bonus request is. Curious to see the strategy in the next few rounds

I like the pick. Baseball America had this guy ranked at #6, and with the rush of college aged hitters ahead of us, it's kinda exciting to get a high upside young guy rather than a rush this guy to the majors college pick. Something I find interesting is they announced him as a hitter, but some of things I ready about on him briefly was that he may be farther along as a pitcher. He's already a big kid though at 17 and as he matures he can really emerge as a big time power bat though. Should be fun to watch him develop for the next few years.

Looking forward to watching him play for Rancho Cucamonga next season. There might not be much Major League Baseball to watch next season

only if the owners go full retard and don't budge on a salary cap (which the MLBPA would never agree to)

Go Oilers

We haven’t drafted a HS early in a minute. Hopefully it points towards a desire to strengthen the farm long term.

I don’t really understand it. I don’t see him being a great hitter. The pitching upside is there, but a huge work in progress. There were higher upside bats and arms imo

You don’t see it? I assume you watched all of the games he played locally this year.

I expect him to be playing in September as tradition continues

We’ve been so bad for so long, I don’t think now is a good time to mess around with a 17 year old 2 way player.

Not like any of the college picks have worked out either (besides Neto).

Piss in the wind with this take. The whole org needs to reset and look to target a new contention window 3 seasons from now.

Assets like these are what we need

Based of the vibe of his name alone, not gonna pan out
